Hearne: Whitlock Channels, Dumbs Down LeBron, to Stage Reality ‘Explanation’ on Local Radio/Cable
Silliness, thy name is Whitlock…
Following a 12-week standoff with the Kansas City Star, newly dispensed with sports scribe Jason Whitlock is borrowing a page from LeBron James recent ESPN reality show, “The Decision.” The difference being that instead of a worldwide audience on a major cable channel, W has gone begging on Twitter for local media to cough up enough cash pay to buy his mom for a plane ticket to fly in and host the show on a local radio and limited access cable. Continue reading

Hearne: Expendables II, Twittering While Rome Burns. Life After Hearne, Posnanski & Whitlock
Nobody is irreplaceable, right?
I get a little dose of that every time I look in the mirror and think back to Sun scribe Steve Rose’ prediction that long after most of the print journalistic Jurassics were gone, I’d still be choking out columns at the Continue reading
Shauna: Mad Men & Military Fashions to Center Stage for Fall
For many the dog days of homework, classrooms, and detention are about to return.Yes, Virginia, this week is the official start of BACK TO SCHOOL!!! And with fall on the horizon, it’s time to jump ahead and check out the upcoming season’s hottest trends.
Between the new ideas of revamping your military-esque pieces and the hot, sophisticated ladieswear that is so on point this season, one thing’s for sure; this fall’s fashions are sure not to disappoint.
*Think MAD MEN…
The femininity of the 1950s and 1960s makes a huge return with ubber ladylike sophisticated silhouettes that accentuate a woman’s curves rather than try to straighten and flatten them out. Continue reading
Hearne: Whitlock in Paycheck Stare Down with Star
An unnamed source close to a pal of absentee Kansas City Star sports scribe Jason Whitlock says a salary dispute lies at the heart of the big fella’s two-month plus, unexplained absence from the newspaper.
“An insider at the Star told me that Whitlock texted another (national) sports reporter, saying he’s not at liberty to say this publicly but ‘I’m in a contract dispute with the Kansas City Star. Two years ago they cut my salary due to the financial issues the Star was having. I reluctantly accepted it, hoping it was for the short term. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.’ “

Hearne: Lady Gaga at Sprint, the Good, the Bad & the Hillbilly
About this week’s Lady Gaga extravaganza at the Sprint Center…
“It was, uh, overall a good show,” says attendee Andy Lewellen. “My only problem with such a new entertainer is that they come out and they only have like six good songs.”
As evidenced by the 11 paragraph review in the Kansas City Star with but two scant sentences describing the songs that were performed.
“It was kind of like at the beginning the first two songs were good, then in the middle there was kind of a lull and then she ended the show back on top with four of her good songs,” says Lewellen, co-owner of Lew’s and The Well in Waldo. “Overall it was good – I just expected more out of her being the icon that she is – you know, the new Madonna. Star Search: Mindless Headlines & Continued Silence on Star Newsroom’s Top Topic
Been awhile since I trod this tired road, but what the heck…
With the newsroom of the Kansas City Star literally consumed with the topic of what-in-the-world is going on between the newspaper and volatile sports columnist Jason Whitlock, the paper continues to bunker.
Internally and externally.
Talk about W’s future at the Star has reached beyond critical mass among reporters and editors. Driven by the unexplained resignation Friday of sports editor Holly Lawton and the big galoot’s two-month plus equally unexplained absence. All of which has lead to absolutely zero in the way of open discourse from management with the readership, general public or Continue reading

Hearne: Cloying Whitlock Sets Alarm for Midnight
You got it, you flaunt it, you still got it…
After two months of a high-profile, behind-the-scenes tap dance, Kansas City Star columnist Jason Whitlock appears poised to come-out, come-out, wherever he are.
“Kansas City’s Andrew Breitbarts have about 10 hours left in “Lie About Whitlock Month,” he twitterered today around 2 p.m.. “Myth Albom isn’t only King of False Narratives.”
Cute…
“I think he’s saying that he’s back at midnight,” says one recipient. “That at about midnight tonight his next column will drop or whatever. To me that means he’s going to be back in the Sunday paper.” Continue reading

Hearne: Mystery of Star Sports Editor’s Unexplained Exit Centers on Whitlock
In the wide world of sports, bigger mysteries exist…
That said, in the local scheme of things, the sudden and unexplained resignation of Kansas City Star sports editor Holly Lawton today raises a lot more questions than there appear to be benign answers for.
Why after two years on the job would Lawton walk away from a possibly six-figure paycheck during uncertain economic times for a position to-be-named-later? Continue reading
