Glazer: Scribe Weighs in on Streep, Clooney, 84th Academy Awards Ceremony

Meryl Streep broke nearly every important Academy Award record held by women…

She was nominated for the 17th time – the second most nominated being Katharine Hepburn – who is still the record holder with 4 Oscars. The other woman who won 3 awards is Ingrid Bergman.

With Streep’s third win – her first in 30 years – her best line was, "Oh no. Oh c’mon. Why her again?"

While she’s the greatest actress of our generation, Streep’s also aware that she’s not a sex symbol. Meaning her name on the title means..SERIOUS FILM…not Jennifer Anniston fluff. Streep is beyond brilliant – just google her credits – to me she’s simply the best there is or probably ever will be.

For many of us, THE IRON LADY, will probably be a film we see on HBO.

Glazer: Brace Yourselves, the Return of Black Barbie to Scribe’s Romantic Fold

Joe Rogan had a hit single called "Voodoo Punanny"…

It’s a comedy song about not being able to stay away from a hot chick that’s simply not good for you, but the sex is too strong to stay away.  In my case in recent years that person has been BLACK BARBIE.

I met her just after my divorce. Hearne and I were at the Police concert at Sprint and I got a call from Temptations manager David Rice. The strip club was nearby and he said, "Craig I got a 10 – a 19 year-old stripper from Texas. And I showed her your photo online and she went crazy. She loves Al Pacino and thinks you look like him. Come over and meet her NOW!"

Maybe owning Stanford’s, driving a hot car and having a book out didn’t hurt either.

When I walked in and saw her, she stood nearly six feet tall. She had an unreal body, was very pretty, exotic and, in a strange way sweet, always smiling and soft.

Anyways…IT WAS ON!

Glazer: Set Aside Hurt Feelings, Let the Games Continue – Long Live the KU-MU Rivalry

I’ve always been a KU basketball and an MU football fan…

Who doesn’t love a winner? My mom and dad went to MU and I did a year at UMKC, so I followed MU football. But I’ve always loved KU’s basketball program. It’s the best program for sports in our area, and yes, that includes the Chiefs and Royals.

KU basketball is Kansas City’s only elite team nationally and it’s been that way for decades.

Winning a 9th straight Big 12 title proves that Bill Self is a top three national coach.

And this was supposed to be a rebuilding year for the Jayhawks. Now they’re likely going to be a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Big Dance in a couple weeks.

Top notch, Bill!

But this year MU showed up huge.

Glazer: Knock on Wood, Hip-Hop’s Gone & Westport’s Back

It’s finally happened, Westport has joined  the other entertainment districts in KC that matter…

Read my lips: No more hip-hop clubs, no more rap, no more urban crowds.

With America’s Pub closing after New Year’s, the question was, how long it might take for the crowds to increase.

NOT LONG.

Kelly’s staffers say business has almost doubled on weekends since the area has completely dumped urban dance. Wow.

Glazer: Furor Over ESPN ‘Chink’ Headline on Jeremy Lin Overblown

There’s a "Chink In the Armor" of Jeremy Lin

ESPN had that headline up Saturday for only 35 minutes. They fired its author and suspended well-known personality Max Bretos for saying the following earlier live on the air: "If there is a chink in (Lin’s) armor, where can he improve his game?"

So is there a massive wave of racist hate towards Lin sweeping America? The answer is of course NO.

Lin’s Asian and very few Americans hate Asians.

Glazer: Scribe Plunks Down His 8 Bucks, Picks Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Winners

What started as a few pages of pretty girls in swimming suits a few decades back is now is the biggest selling Sports Illustrated issue of the year…

The entire mag is dedicated to beautiful women in small pieces of clothing.

I find it odd that a sports rag’s biggie of the year is always semi-nude ladies. Why not just buy Playboy and see everything? In fact, many of the girls over the years from S.I. end up nude in Playboy or other zines.

This is the ‘classy one,’ I guess.

Glazer: Scribe’s First Love & Peeping Tom Experience, The One That Got Away

We all had that ONE!

Remember, the first love. No, not the one you slept with first. The girl in your fifth or sixth grade class…that you fell in LOVE with. Remember?

They call it "puppy love," but I call it ‘the real thing – no love in life is ever stronger.

She stood 5′ 5," tall for a fifth grade girl. Her hair was jet black and she had the skin color of a Victoria Secret model before there were any. She was dark brown, always tan somehow. The face of a smiling angel. Her name was Janice Woods and all the boys at Briarwood were in love with this young lady.

That is, all the boys in our fifth grade class. Why wouldn’t you be?

Glazer: Comedy Heavyweights Headed to KC @ Improv, Midland and Stanford’s

A hot streak for big name comics coming to KC is about to unfold…

D.L. Hughley stops by the Improv this weekend. I worked with D.L. when he had his own series back in the late 90’s. His first show here was at Stanford’s in Westport. However these days we don’t do many urban acts at Legends, so he’s an Improv guy..but still a very funny man. The Improv loves the urban comedy.

On the other side of the scope this March Ron White, the former Blue Collar star is at the Midland. Ron’s a great person. We had him at both Stanford’s in Westport and Overland Park. Before Blue Collar Ron didn’t draw well. He asked me to give him one more shot back around 2000 so I said O.K.

Glazer: Love on the Rocks, Valentine’s Day 2012 in Kansas City

In recent years Valentine’s Day has become one of THE THREE go out nights of the year…

It replaced New Year’s Eve for couples shortly after the year 2000. I can attest to that at Stanford and Sons. Valentine’s week has been in our Top Three for like a decade.

But for some reason, this year it got lost!

Glazer: Time Warner Boots KU – K-State Basketball Broadcast

If you’re anything like me, you wondered, "Did my cat chew the damn cable again?"

Last night we got to watch the exciting first half of the KU / K-State basketball game get dumped. No picture. No sound, nothing. What!

Yeah, it was crappy out – we our first real snow – a slushy mess with clouds and yuk. Not to worry, we had time to race home to watch a somewhat big basketball game at 8 PM. Make a small wager on the home school. Me, I love KU basketball and MU football. So I was on Kansas -4 and under 135 1/2 –  got it?

So I sit back, get a nice cold drink, turn on the set and…sorry, NOTHING!

Glazer: Scribe Comes Clean, Confesses to Being a Phony

Man, it’s finally gotten to me, all the thoughtful comments some of you have been leaving…

They’ve made me see the error of my ways. After all, you’re the people who care, want to help me and make the world a better place. You’ve pointed out my lies, shortcomings and such. And now I can’t hide from the truth any longer, so I CONFESS!

WHERE TO BEGIN?

Glazer: Scribe Challenges Readers to Name KC’s Most Hated, Win Dinner & Comedy

Some of the top "MOST HATED ATHLETES" are also the best known in the world…

Most of the Top 10 are huge stars in the game they play or played in, and sometimes being on this list can be a good thing. But I suppose it’s not one these guys particularly want to read.

Number One: Easy, Michael Vick. We all know why, the dog fighting and torture of small animals. I agree with this one. Jim Rome didn’t. Rome had Vick on a few weeks back and said, "I think the guy is reformed." Me, I’m an animal lover and if Vick was ripping my little dogs teeth out with pliers, I’d have to put one in him. A bullet. Major jerk.

Number Two: Tiger Woods.

Glazer: Scribe Forecasts Trouble Ahead for Tom Brady & Gisele on Marital Front

They’re the best looking couple in the nation, if not the world…

I’m talking about Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen. Yes, I’m putting them above Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, but have you seen Pitt lately?  Plus Tom and Gisele are younger. However, now come the hard times. Brady is down due to his second Super Bowl loss and Gisele is busy and probably gone from home a lot.

In celebrity marriages, this is the stuff that often can cause trouble.

Hey, I’m totally in agreement with what Gisele said on that elevator. "My husband can’t fucking throw the ball AND CATCH IT."  She was 100 percent correct and I’m sure that’s what Tom thinks but just can’t say.

Tom Brady played a near perfect game, save the interception.

Glazer: He Who Laughs Last; Todd Haley Makes Bank in Pittsburgh

OK, so he isn’t a head coach this season…

Former Chiefs coach Todd Haley is the next best thing, the offensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers. That’s one of the best jobs in the NFL outside of being a head coach. The Steelers are "money" when it comes to the post season. And the Super Bowl has been all too often a stop for this storied franchise.

"I am excited about the opportunity to come back home and work for a tremendous organization," Haley says.

Translation: The Kansas City Chiefs organization is nothing.

It’s no secret that Scott Pioli and Haley hated each other, as first reported here on KC Confidential, where I was told by a comment idiot to stop making stuff up or I could be sued. Then I explained that it was a hate war between them and Haley knew he was to be fired soon. I offered as evidence that Haley and his wife had quit Woodside and the two wives didn’t speak anymore.

Well, it all ended up true, huh haters?

Glazer: My Life of Crime as Butch Cassidy

In 1983 Kansas City Star reporter Paul Wenske flew into LA to interview me…

A few weeks later he would write a front page story with a headline likening me to Butch Cassidy.  It would be my all-time favorite newspaper story about my life.

In the years leading up to that I had been in the paper hundreds of times. Many during my 1974/1975 case when I was an agent for Kansas Attorney General Vern Miller. I had begun my public life with a family story in the early 1960’s when my brothers, Jack, Jeff and I appeared on the front page for Christmas riding a horse driven sleigh with my Grandpa Bennie.

Uh, that was a little different.

Glazer: Scribe Lays Down Last Minute Super Bowl Bettors Guide

I have been going back and forth on my final pick…

If you’re a fan of Tom Brady, well, it’s just so damn hard to bet against him isn’t it guys? Like I said in my last column, everything points to the New York Giants as the winner today. They have the better team, no question. With the New England‘s tight end super star the RONSTER damaged, there’s even less chance for Brady to find a winning target.

HEY HOW ABOUT OCHO CINCO?

Glazer: Scribe Wipes Away a Tear, Bids Adieu to Whitney Houston

One of the greatest singing voices and vocal talents of our time is gone…

Whitney Houston was found dead in her Beverly Hills Hotel room tonight, by her on again, off again boyfriend, the singer Ray J. Many feel, as do I, that Houston was the all time best female vocalist of our time along with Barbra Streisand.

It’s no secret that Whitney battled hard core cocaine abuse for the last two decades.

Glazer: Scribe Recalls Chiefs Glory Days, Wonders Where Things Went Horribly Wrong

Not counting my dad, I was blessed as a kid…

Every fall weekend all I could think about was, "Will the Chiefs win another one?"  It was the late 1960s. The Chiefs and Oakland Raiders were by far the two best teams in the AFL. As luck would have it, my Uncle Mort owned Glazer Chemical, so several Chiefs worked for him during the off season. That’s right, back then most football players made less than $35,000 a year, some far less. Today that might be a small bonus on a wild card play-off game…for the losers.

Yep, I would ride with my Dad or Uncle Mort after school, sometimes with All Pro Jerrel Wilson (the Chiefs great punter) or maybe Jim Tyrer (all pro lineman).

Glazer: Against All the Odds, Scribe Goes with Brady & New England in Super Bowl

Man oh man, this is as tough a call as it gets…

I’m talking about this year’s Super Bowl, with the Patriots fielding all-time best quarterback in Tom Brady and the New York Giants with the better team. That’s right, without argument the Giants are better everywhere, except tight end and maybe at quarterback. The Giants defense is better, its running game is better, its receivers are faster, younger and better.

At quarterback, it’s maybe a tie.

Eli Manning is 31 Brady is 34. Eli is much more mobile. Remember when the Chiefs broke Brady’s leg? It’s never been quite the same since.

Yet the New England Patriots, who lost to New York earlier this year at New England, are a 3 point favorite.

Glazer: Stood Up by Joe Namath After Bimbo Schmooze

When they mention the best quarterbacks, you just don’t hear these names anymore, Len Dawson, John Hadl, Bob Griese and most shocking Joe Namath – Broadway Joe…

I saw Namath’s new HBO Special a few nights back and it was well done. Namath narrates the program and the guy still looks pretty sharp, even handsome for a 68 year old man with bad knees. There was a time when he ruled the sports world along with Muhammad Ali. Both are heroes of mine. You all know I did a couple movies with Ali and got to know him.

Joe Willie, well, that’s another story.
