Glazer: Woe Be to the Chiefs – Manning to Vault Denver to Atop AFC West

Peyton Manning will be a Bronco…

Meaning that Denver will join Houston and New England as favorites to go to next year’s Super Bowl from the AFC. The Kansas City Chiefs – who had already been picked by many, even at ESPN to win the west – have now been demoted to wild card hopefuls.

What a difference one player can make when his name is MANNING.

The Chiefs have made some nice off season moves including picking up offensive tackle Eric Winston, a very good lineman. And we had no real solid tight end, so the Chiefs bought Kevin Boss, another very good player. The Chiefs also may have caught a break in signing back up quarterback Brady Quinn as well as the more than dependable running back Peyton Hillis from Cleveland. Hillis and Quinn had worked with Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel in the past and he was a fan of both.

So yeah, the Chiefs got some needed help.

With a wounded running back and a tight end who’s never healthy, these were great moves.

Glazer: Bill Self Sets Stage for Revenge Battle Against North Carolina & Benedict Roy

KU’s two All-Americans – Thomas Robinson is and Tyshawn Taylor – were big time off their games yesterday…

And Kansas looked like a sure loser against Purdue the entire game until the very end, when a point guard named Elijah led Kansas to the promised land.

Elijah Johnson – who is likely to be the star of next year’s team – saved the day.

Robinson and Taylor could just not score, hitting only six shots from the field.

So how did Kansas beat a good Purdue team? Bill Self.

Glazer: Westport Flexes Its Party Muscles, Claims High Ground on St. Paddy’s

It’s ridiculously official…

Westport’s back and it’s bad. It was so packed yesterday for St. Patrick’s Day you couldn’t get near the place without getting trapped in major traffic jams. As early as 11 AM. I tried to slip into the area and had to duck in and out of the sidestreets to make it into the heart of Westport.

Here’s the honest to god deal, they don’t need the St. Patrick’s Day parade to lure Kansas City to Westport on a Saturday. That’s by far the busiest drinking day and night of the year.

"I hit the beer tent on the Kelly’s lot at 9 A.M. and they never turned my beer tap off ALL DAY until they took a break around 7 PM," said Westport point man Bill Nigro.  "I’ve seen huge crowds down here over my 30 years, but this was the biggest ever."

I checked out the Power & Light District afterwords around 1 PM and there wasn’t even a fraction of the crowd Westport had. I’m sure it got busier later, but some of our staff hit them both and said there was no comparison.

Westport was 10 times busier than P & L!

Glazer: Chelsea Lately Unleashes PR Schmooze on Scribe & Stanford’s

The hottest comedy show on cable is Chelsea Lately

And Stanford and Sons has been a feeder for her guests the last two years. We’re lucky to be associated with booking agencies like CAA, APA and Gersh. These agencies out of LA and New York represent 90% of her guest comics.

So when offered the opportunity – realizing she was the next big thing in comedy on TV – I began signing almost all her people. Recently we’ve had Dov Davidoff, Mo Mandel and Ilza Shelsinger to name a few. Now all of them have TV series or movies. Our biggest Chelsea find was clearly TJ Miller who’s as hot as anyone out there today.

You have to give Chelsea credit for being willing to share her stardom with so many young comics.

Nobody else has been as helpful to up and comers since the days of Johnny Carson and the old Tonight Show.

And Thursday Chelsea gave Stanford’s and KC some love.

Glazer: Missouri Chokes, Leaves Once in a Lifetime Season in Ruins

Who knew?

Even President Obama picked Missouri to go to the FINAL FOUR.

This year’s MU basketball team achieved something the school never had before. Most sports insiders felt Missouri was one of the best teams in the nation. They were  ranked No. 3, the school’s all-time best finish. They drew a No. 2 seed and got to play a total nobody.

No. 2 seeded MU against 15th seeded, unranked Norfolk State. Are you kidding me?

MU was like a 22 point favorite, the biggest number in the BIG DANCE. So what happens?

MU CHOKES. NORFOLK STATE WINS BY 2.

And you know what? It felt like a whole lot more. It never seemed like MU was really in the game to win it.

Glazer: World’s Nicest Guy, KC Export Rob Riggle Plays Bad Guy in 21 Jump Street

Rob Riggle playing a bad guy?

It’s true. The KC export’s new movie, 21 Jump Street has him cast as an evil teacher with a secret. It’s a take off from the old TV series as noted in Jack’s review below.

Rob’s one of several Stanford’s alums who’ve had nice Hollywood careers. Guess what? Not all of these stars were even comics at Stanford’s. At least not at first.

Rob Riggle came to do his first stand-up with us a couple years ago. He was best known for his role on The Daily Show with Live From Baghdad, It’s Rob Riggle.

Glazer: KC Confidential Sign of the Apocalypse – Scribe Pens a Fiat Story

Maybe Hearne’s car isn’t so gay after all…

His Fiat may be a lot cooler than many of you thought.

MEET THE FIAT 500 Abarth…in the new Charlie Sheen TV Ad that ran during the NCAA’s yesterday. Wow, what a great ad!

Sheen is seen driving this hot black Fiat Abarth through an Italian Mansion at a super high speed. Shifting, racing, bustin up stuff, while a well-placed group of hotties watch and hope he stops for one of them. He eventually does and climbs into the arms of a beautiful lady.

I thought at first it was maybe his real life girlfriend but it’s Romanian supermodel Catrinel Menghia from that other Fiat ad that ran during the Super Bowl.

Glazer: Scribe Tries to Make Sense of Senseless Killings in Afghanistan, My Lai

Almost 44 years ago exactly, on March 16, Lt. William Calley of Charlie Company led a raid on a Village in Vietnam…

The Village was My Lai and a massacre ensued with between 350 to 500 villagers being executed by U.S. Troops. The civilians were unarmed, mostly women and children. All killed for no clear reason.

Sound familiar?

A few days ago a U.S. soldier – again for no clear reason – went into a village in Afghanistan and shot and killed at least 16 people, again mostly women and children. It’s being called the worst atrocity U.S. forces have committed during the 10 year war that began as a mission to find Osama Bin Laden.

Oh wait a minute – we already killed him – nevermind.

Glazer: Peyton Manning Disses Chiefs, Threatens KC Chances for Division Title

Peyton Manning doesn’t believe the Kansas City Chiefs are a Super Bowl team…

Not even with him at quarterback. In fact, he said yesterday the Chiefs were OUT! WITHOUT EVEN A SIT DOWN OR VISIT.

Wow, what a slap in the face to his agent Tom Condon‘s former team. Condon played his entire career with KC as an offensive lineman. And sources close to the super agent had just told me KC was definitely in the running.

Glazer: The Somewhat Obvious Reasons KU & MU Didn’t Make the Cut as No. 1 Seeds

It’s like this, Missouri was expected to be a No. 2 seed in the Big Dance…

There was a glimmer of hope they could move up to a No. 1 but Michigan State already had a lot more noise around them and because MU is NOT an elite basketball program that didn’t help. Despite that MU won the Big 12 tourney this past weekend.

You know, maybe if Kansas had made the final and Missouri had beat them, MU might have had a shot. But obviously that didn’t happen.

Glazer: Funny Guy Jim Jefferies Brings Down the House While Buying a House

Jim Jefferies bought his dream home in the Hollywood Hills yesterday…

From right here in Kansas City he closed on that puppy over the phone for a cool $1.25 million. And he’s moving in with his TV star girlfriend – a really hot one.

On top of that, Jim’s been hired by FX to do his first TV series. It’s R-rated, of course. He also told me he’s changing his name officially to Jim Jefferies from his Australian-born, real name Geoffrey Nugent.

Now the big bucks are rolling in for him and Jim works mostly theaters for $15 to $20 grand a weekend or night. Yep, he’s gone Hollywood, but he’s earned it.

Jim’s been working the U.S. for just three years and he’s the fastest rising star in comedy today.

He’s had to go back to England every six months because he only has a green card, but he’s planning now to become a US citizen.

Glazer: Vegas Bound Scribe Says Things Are Looking Up for This Year’s Royals

It happened…

Vegas moved the over/under on season wins for the Kansas City Royals up from 78 1/2 to 80 1/2 games. Wow, they’re buying in too! Undoubtedly because guys like me are all taking the over on the Royals…for once.

In other words, I’m betting the Royals are going to win more than 80 1/2 out of 162 games this season.

We have a talented young team that I expect to compete for the division title this season.

Regrettably the Royals have been in rebuilding mode since 1990. However now THEY’RE BUILT.

Glazer: Sign Peyton Manning Now & Bring Back the Joe Montana Era

It happened once before…

In 1993 head Chiefs thug Carl Peterson brought Joe Montana to Kansas City. The first game against the Denver Broncos that one night was simply ELECTRIC. I was there. Even though it was 1993, scalped tickets went for 500 bucks.

It was the Chiefs best PR move both nationally and locally of all time – at least since the Dawson Era

For the first time the Kansas City Chiefs were on the national map and elite.

Joe helped bring us great talent like Marcus Allen. Everyone wants to play with a hall of famer still able to get it done. In fact Montana was so important that a team that has won no playoff games since he left in 1994, was still considered elite for many more years, until 2003. Since that time our team has been a doormat and off the radar – not even an afterthought.

Today’s Chiefs are a total no show.

So I say, YES TO PEYTON MANNING.

Glazer: Big 12 Looks Petty for Stiffing MU Basketball Coach Frank Haith

The Big 12 Coaches named KU’s Bill Self and Iowa State’s Fred Hoiberg co-coaches of the year…

Yet here Missouri’s Frank Haith has his Tigers No. 5 in the nation with a team picked to finish fourth in the league. Not only that, they have a legit shot at a No. 1 seed in the Big Dance, as does Kansas. And he loses to Hoiberg?

How cool would that be if both KU and MU had one seeds?

That’s never happened because MU rarely has strong basketball unit. This is BY FAR their best team ever. I know they had a one seed in 1907 and got jacked, but this is still their best effort ever.

And the Big 12 gives their coach the bum’s rush. Why?

Glazer: The Chiefs Had to Tag Dwayne Bowe as Franchise Player

Dwayne Bowe is the offense for the Kansas City Chiefs

It’s that simple. Bowe’s on again and off again on the field, but by far this team’s MVP. Forget Derrick Johnson, without Bowe we can’t score anything. Our offense is that bad.

With Jamaal Charles back this season – if his ACL’s better – he could help. But the Chiefs had to sign Bowe and let cornerback Brandon Carr go. They replaced Carr with Oakland’s Stanford Routt. Not bad.

Don’t worry about Bowe, he’ll get nearly $10 million this year as the franchise player. The guy probably wanted a five year $60-$70 million dollar deal and he may still get it.

Glazer: Read His Lips; Scribe Says No More Oil Wars

Have you heard what I have?

That this latest oil crisis may cause a war between the United States and the Middle East. With Iran.

Not this again.

Yep, now that the wars with the other countries over there are winding down, here comes the next one.

Why not? Gas is gonna go to five bucks – maybe even six – let’s declare war! Remember when the gas wars in this country were between stations trying to see who could sell for the lowest price?

Look, we have no real serious enemies here.

And nobody – and I mean nobody – wants to tangle with the United States military.

Glazer: Biggest Comedy Show of the Year to Hit KC Next Week; Jim Jefferies

Geoffery James Nugent was born in Sydney, New Wales, Australia 35 years ago…

He later moved to Manchester, England. Shortly after he and his girlfriend were violently burglarized at their apartment. She was tied up and beaten (attempted rape); he was hit over the head with a machete. The two men were later arrested and got 12 years in prison.

And Jim became a comic…

He changed his name to Jim Jefferies.

And he went on to beome the hottest comic in England. He starred on the BBC, was the smash hit of the Edinburgh Comedy Festival and was discovered there by an agent at Creative Artists, the number one talent agency in the world out of LA.

Today Jeffries is on the verge of becoming the No. 1 hottest and best comic in the world.

Glazer: Scribe’s ‘Good Hands Man’ Serves Up a Body Part

Guys like me look for hero’s who do battle in some form or fashion…

They get in gunfights or fistfights and thus risk their lives. But sometimes others risk their lives to save others without the use of violence.

Joe Vohs of Linwood, Kansas is such a man.

The 46 year old Farmers Insurance dude gave up a kidney to save a life. And not his child’s, his wife’s or even a relative’s. He gave it up for someone he doesn’t even know and may never meet.

On December 29th last year, Vohs gave away part of his body for one reason and one reason only.

Glazer: With Dow at 13,000 Scribe Awakens to Wonderful, Republicanless World

The Dow closed yesterday above 13,000 for the first time since May 19, 2008…

Is this the signal that the economy is finally on the way back? Maybe.

In any case, president in Barack Obama now seems unbeatable to win a second term. The Republicans reality TV shows have been fun with all the goofy debates and crazy candidates. Mitt Romney inched a couple steps closer yesterday to becoming the nominee by defeating Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich in Michigan and Arizona.

And in a way, the Republicans have made politics on TV fun.

Glazer: Why the NFL Gets a Pass on Drug Use While MLB Doesn’t

Recent events prove beyond a shadow of a doubt the power of the National Football League...

And two stories demonstrate just how much more important the NFL is over Major League Baseball.

On December 14th, 26 year-old Chicago Bears receiver Sam Hurd was busted by the feds for trying to buy more than 500 grams or more of cocaine. It was disclosed that he and others planned to purchase and move several kilos of cocaine WEEKLY. In other words, it was a multimillion dollar drug ring, because clearly this was not Sam’s first big time deal. You don’t just start out at that level.

Sammy and crew were moving on up into the big, big, big time.

Hurd explained that several other players were involved, and remember he was once a Dallas Cowboy.

Hurd was a well-paid backup player. He’d signed a three year deal with the Bears and got a $1.35 million signing bonus. Guess that just wasn’t enough.

However since the case exploded last year we’ve heard…NOTHING!

Why?
