Let’s get ready to tumble!

Let’s be clear; Craig Glazer is not a humble scribe, although he described himself as such one time, leading to his tag here on KC Confidential. Far from it, as most, if not all of us know.

But when it comes to this year’s Kansas City Chiefs, why should he be?

Outside of the first blush of opening NFL season blush, Glazer has gone from worrying aloud to borderline branding the team as posers. Little by little, week by weak, he’s ratcheted up the angst, going as far this past week to call out print and talk radio media suck ups for clinging to undeserved optimism long after it became obvious that the team was leading a charmed – as in dumb lucky – life and was headed for a fall.

A fall that well might come today at home against San Diego and continue on through Denver and however many other losses in the final weeks to come. And culminating in an old-fashioned, Wild Card playoff spanking and a return to mediocrity next season.

Guess who wasn’t in Kansas City last Friday?

Uptown Theater top dog Larry Sells, that’s who. Sells was holed up in the unofficial conspiracy world headquarters in Dallas, Texas for the 50th anniversary of the killing of President John F. Kennedy.

When I called Sells Thursday morning to wish him Happy JFK Day, he shot back, “It’s Happy Slaughter Kennedy in Dallas & Pretend You Didn’t Do It Day. And that’s what they’re doing here and I’m heading to Dealey Plaza this morning.”

Sells was especially pleased about director Oliver Stone‘s plug for his new bookJFK: Absolute Proof  by noted Kennedy Assassination expert and author Robert Groden. Continue reading →

It’d be a nice place to do biz but he really wouldn’t want to live there…

So says comedy impresario turned scribe Craig Glazer of Columbia, Missouri. It’s been a while since the Glaze graced the home of the Missouri Tigers with his presence, but from what he’s seen, heard and understands, it’s one of the last places on earth he’d realistically consider settling down in. You know, outside of war torn or impoverished places, dog patches and / or loser cities like my former home-away-from-home last year, Topeka.

So in response to everybody’s “favorite” comments section harpy, Harley, Glazer weighed in on some of the preceived differences between Lawrence, Kansas (home of KU and 30 minutes to an hour from KC) and Columbia (home of the MU football team.

“Lawrence is kind of a Yellow Brick Road city,” Glazer says. “Columbia is drab and dark. The things in Lawrence are cool, everything there is cutting edge. People say KU is the UCLA of the Midwest. It’s more erudite and it’s a little snobbish in a way, but let’s put it this way, Lawrence is a more interesting city.”

A.J. Finney

After a decade plus of no big time comedy clubs in Kansas City, Stanford & Sons returns tonight to 37th and Broadway in the Uptown Theater Conspiracy Room. The show tips off at 8 p.m. (7:45 and 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday) with funny guy A. J. Finney doing the headlining honors.

“I’ve never believed in soft openings, but instead of four or five weeks to promote the opening, in this case, we’ve only had two weeks,” says Stanford’s main man Craig Glazer. “But the Kansas City Star is coming tonight to cover the opening and I think the Pitch will be coming and we’ve had really good social media so…”
