Talk about dodging the St. Patrick’s Day Bullet…
Turns out Bill George and Bill Nigro’s weekend nights trolley transports – aka the K.C. Strip – won’t be debuting March 5th after all.
“It got moved to March 19th,” Nigro says. “We just have too much to do and we need everything to be perfect.” Continue reading

Hearne on the Street: Mad Max, Skid, Basse, DVP, Shooting Star at Conspiracy
About last night’s “roast” of legendary KY102 personality Max Floyd at Larry Sells new Conspiracy…
As roasts go it was something of a snoozer – too many warm and fuzzies – not enough cutting edge.
“It wasn’t really a roast and there was nobody that was funny,” says roaster Craig Glazer of Stanford’s. “A lot of it was people talking about their own lives in radio as it related to Max – they didn’t understand the concept of a roast.”
Net result: Continue reading
Hearne: Six Daze on the Road…
Hey, even axed Star columnists like me need a vacation every year or so…
So it is that I slipped away Thursday to the wilds of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Western Kentucky and the Missouri Bootheel. How glamorous was it? Use your imagination.
Restful? Oh yeah.
Not that I went KC Confidential cold turkey. Behind the scenes, I was furiously editing copy and working on stories that will magically appear starting this a.m..
Naturally, there are those who well may theorize that I bailed, based on the heat I was taking in the comments section re KCC’s Star layoffs stories.
The most amusing aspect of all that: that it was I – not Tony – who took the fall for his tres sympathetic story about the Star Letters Editor’s sad demise.
Allow me to tackle that one head on if you will… Continue reading

K.C. Star Struck: Will Latest Bakers Dirty Dozen be Last?
About an announcement by the Kansas City Star that “about a dozen” of its staffers were administered their last rites...
An email from publisher Mark Zieman went on to say that “…The worst days of this economic downturn are behind us.”
Hold it right there…
That may well be, but the implication that the newspaper can pack up all its cares and woes and march into a bright future is naive.
If the economy does rebound it will have a positive effect on the Star’s revenues along with everyone else in Depressionville hanging on for dear life.
But there’s more to the equation. Continue reading
