Here’s a second installment of what to do this weekend, just to make things a little more interesting.

Tech N9ne at the Midland in KC
After releasing All 6’s and 7’s in June of this year, Tech N9ne’s album quickly shot up the charts, selling over 55,000 copies in its first week, and landing at #1 on the Billboard Rap Albums chart. It featured a bunch of guest performers including Snoop Dogg, Lil’ Wayne, Busta Rhymes, T-Pain, and others.
But he didn’t stop there.
Nope, the ever-prolific KC native released another album a few short weeks ago entitled Welcome to Strangeland, which dropped on Tech’s 40th birthday. This time, it’s a hometown affair, as the album features only artists that are on the Strange Music label. On his website, Tech describes his approach to the new album:
“Here’s what I did. I told Travis, ‘I want these beats to sound enchanting. I want it to be like Nightmare Before Christmas meets Beetlejuice but still have that down-South bass.’ Always gotta have that knock because without no pulse there’s no life.”
“The mission statement is: ‘This is the world I’ve created and these are all the talented motherfuckers that are within it. Look what’s coming in hip hop. That’s what it is. All this talent I have right here within my empire. Look at what’s coming! Liz Suwandi is coming. CES Cru is coming. All these niggas are coming! Demetri Martin at the Uptown in KC
You might recognize this guy from Comedy Central stand-up specials, or from his show on the same network that was called Important Things with Demetri Martin that ran for about a year. But he also wrote for The Daily Show and Conan for awhile. His stand-up routine consists of a kind of off-beat wordplay style that can be extremely dry at times. He also uses drawings on a large easel with humorous descriptions and sometimes plays the guitar. Wow, reading what I just wrote, that doesn’t really sound funny at all. But trust me, it is. Really funny.
Here’s a little taste:

This superficial, narcissistic, destructive, negative, ignorant culture, promoted by buffoons, liars and apologists is cancer on the American body.

This media witch hunt is getting even more absurd.
We’ve fired Paterno for only telling his immediate boss after someone came to him with a story about the coach trying to push him out.
We’ve suspended McQueary for witnessing the assault.
We are now going after other head coaches who fail to make their quotes punchy enough for alt-weekly reporters.
Oddly enough, the serial child anal rapist walks free. Only needed to pony up 10k in cash to walk out the front door of the jail.

Good point, but Sandusky is going down. There’s little question about that. Paterno on the other hand is in waaaaay deeper than you have characterized it. No way – if you’re following the in-depth reporting on this story – that he was unaware of much of this. Way more than he’s copped to. And even if he turned a blind eye, that was totally bogus based upon what he undoubtedly knew.
Chances are Paterno’s’s big time lying and had a measurable hand in covering things up.
So while Sandusky’s goose is cooked, Paterno and many others aren’t even within spitting distance of the oven and what will surely come in the form of eventual justice.
