I guess in today’s economic environment, I can’t really fault anyone for going for the cash, if Anderson leaves. The difference between $15 million and $25 million for a ballplayer seems irrelevent. But the difference between $2.5 million and $1.3 million today for a coach, how can you turn that down? I don’t care how loyal you are, you have to do what is best for yourself and your family.

I think Gabe DeArmond and Mike Alden are deluded if they think 1.3 million is going to keep Mike Anderson. If Georgia actually offered 2.5 million it is probably going to take at least 1.8 million to get into the discussion. If Calapari leaves for Kentucky the bidding for Anderson may go up even more. If I were Anderson I would take my time to see what all my opportunities are. I agree he is in the drivers seat and it is up to MU to come to the plate.

I agree with Gottlieb and Sundvold on this one. Georgia is overpaying and I don’t think Anderson is worth it. MU fans were ready to run Anderson out of town prior to this season. I think what Alden is offering, 1.3 mil, is fair. And if Anderson wants to bolt, just wish him the best and start a coaching search.

If I’m Anderson, I take a real good look at the Georgia deal simply because it makes financial sense for my family. I can’t blame him for taking the cash, because I would be tempted as well. But MU can’t toss money at him that they don’t have or will cause PR problems with their faculty, legislators and taxpayers.

As a KState fan, I actually glad MU retained Anderson. Something tells me this season’s success was more a combination of the maturation of some quality Quin recruits and a couple of kids that Anderson knew and brought with him. He really hasn’t shown much of anything to indicate his being $2 mil successful year-after-year. To his credit, Anderson played the situation well – got a nice raise and can build on previous success.
But I don’t see him recruiting all that well with Illionois, Kansas, and Arkansas surrounding him. Time will tell.
