There’s no shortage of lame lures by KC’s “We want the young readers” ad dollars set….
Take the tragically hip Pitch Street Team – a thinly veiled squad of traveling hotties who rep for the local alternative rag of record. Their mission: wresting email addresses from boozy bar and concertgoers to supplement faltering Pitch print revenues by adding email blasts to its ad-quation. And how about that tres cool campaign, “Like Me + Pitch. Where Do People LikeMe Go in Kansas City?”

Which brings us to Ink, the year-old, tragically unhip KC Star-run Gen Y wannabe that reportedly was given a year to prove itself. Ink shows its swagger by dropping

Ink has more editorial content than The Pitch? I guess that begs the question – what exactly do you consider editorial content.
A typical Ink “editorial” would be a story on hipsters having stationary bike races in bars.
A Pitch might have an article about local companies opposition to regulation reform in the meat packing industry.
Which sounds like real editorial to you?
By the way, Tony Botello calling ANYONE dirty or whore-like is hilarious. His trashy, lazy blog makes any media criticism he makes completely invalid.

One day in the not too distant future we can only hope for a merger, of sorts, between the Star, Pitch, TKC and KCC. A full blown media orgy of print, online, radio and TV. Scantilly clad women on Vespa’s with helment cams bringing us the news as it happens, wherever it happens.

Blogs are like assholes, everybody has one and some should not be seen under any circumstances.

Allow me to sum up my take on these two pubs:
The Pitch’s parent company needs to cut the cord and allow it’s “local” weeklies to actually be local . Somebody should hide the cookie cutter and install editors plugged in to the broader community. Lose the old school equations, do something more original seeming. In short, break the mold that entombs.
As for Ink, it’s tempting to utter get a life, but a better suggestion is think in terms of providing something approaching news and views.
This is gonna sound harsh, but why target yourself as Community Airhead?
