My first glove was a (left handed) Rawlings GS-69 with a “Flex-o-Matic Palm” that my mom ordered off the back of a cereal box (probably Frosted Flakes)…a Jim Lefebvre model. It’s arrival was better than almost any Christmas morning. The glove was later autographed (on the outside of the thumb) by Scipio Spinks while he was a AAA star with the Oklahoma City 89ers. As I recall, Scipio had a promising career with the St Louis Cardinals (after being traded from the Astros) before tearing up a knee while sliding into home plate. What are the chances a pitcher would do that today? Still got the glove with barely a hink of Spinks’ circa 1971 autograph.

My dad was a mailman whose route was downtown Omaha. He bought my Hank Aaron glove at Hauff’s Sporting Goods from a guy named Angie. Hauff’s was downtown and my brothers and I would walk down there to visit often just to browse in awe, since none of us had spending money. Dad bought my brother Bernie the same Aaron glove and presented them to us one summer. Bernie broke in his glove completely different than I. He played second and I was a center fielder. I had one actual autograph on it; Bill Mazeroski, from an exhibition game the Pirates played at Rosenblatt one spring. Good memories.

I can’t remember my first glove, but the one I got the most use of — through five years of youth and Legion ball — was a Rawlings’ Rick Reichardt model outfielder’s mitt, which I used to play second base. Every coach I had told me that it was too big for an infielder, but I could dig the ball out a lot better than Alberto Callaspo and actually turn a DP.
I also had a Tim McCarver catcher’s mitt, although I never played catcher. But I was a McCarver fan growing up and my Dad could use it when we played catch.

What is going on. We need to get some of those
samoans out in independence to come do a good
luck fire dance because it can’t get any worse
for hillman. Somethings got to end this
poor play. Maybe bring in John Edwards and have
him “channel” up some dead ball players to
replace what we have.
Again, he can’t manage. Doesn’t have a clue about
whatto do. We’re seeing the results of poor
coaching, poor player developement,poor management, poor player attitudes, and now you’re
going to have greinke going nuts after losing
a fantastic outing.
Another stupid move…puts in hernandez for
pena. Uh hello. You’ve got teahen on the bench
who can hit 260-270. Put him in at third and
up at the plate and move willy b. to shortstop.
Moore needs to wake up. Hillman needs a brain.
But glass could care less because he’s not
seeing that even with subpar play by a bunch
of A league players he’s doing alright with attendance and could make some serious money
even as the royals move into the sunset by
all star break.

autograph it in the 73 all star game.
Love baseball…hate to see this team continue to go down the drain.

Had I been sitting in his section, I would have heckled Larry unmercifully. No excuse to not give BOTH of those balls to kids sitting near him. The only thing worse than being an adult and bringing a ballglove to a ballgame is to not give the ball to a kid.

Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers are number in the country. Being number 1 has NOTHING to do with quality. I remember when people were saying the New Kids On The Block were the next Beatles because they were selling more albums. How’d that turn out? Would anyone rank NKOB with the Beatles now? I’ve used this example before. Very seldom does the best selling movie also get nominated for the Oscar. Quality and mass appeal are two very different things. KK may be #1 but that doesn’t change many flaws about him and his show. But yes he does on occasion make good points….of course even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.

Rick, in radio ratings = quality. Sorry to tell you that. If you don’t think KK has a quality show then I’m sure NPR or Walt Bodine would love to have you as a listener. They sometimes talk sports.
KK has ratings, he’s No. 1 in this town. He has beat names like Whitlock, Maas, Steve Rose and Petro twice. How could he beat them if he didn’t have a quality show.
Because he has a quality show.
My advice to you is to deal with it. Or find a good doctor to help you deal with it

I don’t remember the name on my first glove but i do remember snagging my one and only faoul ball. Off the bat of Mike McFarlane along the first base line. Ball took a hard bounce off of an armrail in the section accross the aisle and I plucked it out of the air. Not much competition though as there was only a crowd of ~4,000.

No John ratings don’t equal quality. John the National Enquirer sells more newspapers then the Washington Post. So in your mind that means the National Enquirer is the quality paper? American Idol gets higher ratings then the Grammy Awards so in “your” mind that means that American Idol has the higher quality singers then the Grammy award winners? Currently top rating winners in TV are on the cable side Jon and Kate plus Eight and professional wrestling. On regular TV we have Get Me Out Of Here I’m a Celebrity and Wipeout. So John how many academy awards do you think these shows will be nominated for? When do you think they’ll get inducted into the Television Hall of Fame? You see John you have confused popularity with quality. Just because an entertainment form or person appeals to the lowest form and attracts wide appeal doesn’t mean its quality. Jerry Springer has been on TV for a long time and he has beaten some quality TV shows just as KK has. That doesn’t mean he’s quality. But let me talk to you in a way you can understand.

I don’t know if Petro could have done it back when Entercom pushed him out as he was still a little too young, but there is no doubt that he would wipe out Kietzman if they were head to head right now. Petro prepares for his show and knows sports and not just his own opinions about sports.
I also think if Entercom would put Jerry Green type money into their attack, they probably would close the gap on 810.

Greg I remember going to the outhouse at my aunt Tiny’s. She is still living in Barry Ill. Color TV was a huge deal. I remember VCR’s selling for $1000 and Mopeds for $300. entertainment was a Yo-Yo or jacks. To think I live in the internet age is amazing. And I haven’t even hit 50. Times change quickly.
