   Was Twain kidding? Who knows, but NPR covered a similar topic last week re J.D. Salinger who apparently doesn’t want any of his ‘post-seclusion’ writings to be published.
   Should authors, even long-dead ones, have the right to have their wishes respected about not publishing works (esp. private letters) that they don’t want out? Or should insatiable public demand – plus the opportunity to make a buck – trump that? I’m siding with the writers.

   Rick,

   I agree. While I do think Twain was being tongue-in-cheek with his brother about publishing his letters, it’s a touchy subject. I tend to side with the dead writer, although some after-death discoveries have yielded great works (A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole, for example). It’s just too bad that we can’t always rely on the writer’s estate to make the best call.

   Thank you for the note. “City of Thieves” and “Angel’s Game” were two of my very favorite reads. I am constantly in search of the perfect book, and some weeks hit closer to others. Do you have any suggestions for an upcoming review?
