I could care less who reports something first. This to me is a media game that matters very little. I just want to know that he signed and that he is coming to camp. In this day of instant news no one can hold onto a story that long anyway. I do agree with Christina though that you are becoming kind of a 610 homer.

I would listen to 610 if there was any entertainment value to be experienced. Their on-air hosts are amatuerish and unappealing. They sound like a student-run university radio station.

Congrats Nick Wright on 2 big victories. There will always be naysayertrolllosers who will talk BS no matter how great you do, but I for one give a man credit when it is due.

Congrats to Wright. But it’s yesterday news, so don’t spend too much time thinking about how great you are. Not saying you are, I’m saying you shouldn’t.
And yes, scoops matter a whole lot more to the media members themselves than the consumers. But if 610 becomes the regulars to get it first and get it right, listeners will slowly start moving the dial toward them.

for derrick.
One of the best speeches I’ve heard given there
in many many years.
He hit it on the nail when he said..”derrick was
not a perfect man…but who is?” (paraphrased).
Carl told the real story about derrick and the
work he did in this city. He told of the awards
derrick received for his work which to those of
us who knew him was beyond great.
In my opinion…Carl wanted to let people in this
city know that his heart was still here. Despite
the fact that he did produce some lean years
for the cheifs as gm he did energize this entire
city for many many years. He helped bring an
enthusiasm back to this city…a pride back to this city that we may never see again.
Congrats Carl…even though you left at the
worst time in the cheifs history…thanks for
the many years of great football.
IN my opinion…Carl showed us something that he never showed us while running the cheifs…humility and compassion.

Carl Peterson said DT was like a son to him. So not only is he a failure as Pres/GM but also as a surrogate father. Carl HAD to know what DT was up to; strip clubs, knocking up chicks, not being a responsible baby daddy, yet he did NOTHING to intervene. The saddest news last week is that one of DT’s kids couldn’t qualify academically to get into MU so he’s going to JUCO. In this day and age there are some really stupid kids getting into college to play D1 ball.With all the HELP a college can muster and this kid can’t get in? That tells me more about DT as a MAN then any on field stat. The real heroes in this world don’t play sports or act in movies or sing songs. They love their wives or husbands and are devoted to their children and bust their asses so their kids can have a better life. You know who you are. That kid on 610 who calls himself Cowboy is one the worst sports radio hosts I’ve ever heard in the country. I travel frequently on business and get a chance to tune in to sports shows in several cities and it not only amazes me how bad he is, but that he was given the drive time slot every day. His co-host just lets him dominate the show, not that I’m able to withstand listening for more than a couple of minutes at a time. It’s like two stupid college frat boys babbling in front of a microphone. I hear better sports takes in airport bars than I do on 610 between 2-6pm…

Not reading anybody’s mind or intent but pope and jojo I think you’re off base a little. I don’t think smartman is insulting kids that choose junior college. Lots of good reasons to go that route. Not every kid has a father who plays/played in the NFL like DT’s kid(s). That alone should give you a HUGE advantage in life. If you got game, between the coach, AD, and Academic Counselors they figure out a way to get you declared academically elegible and get you enrolled. DT did great work in the community helping and encouraging kids to learn. Did he do that with his own? Did he ever read a book to them? Use flash cards? Ever be a REAL FATHER?
Carl and DT always talked about the special “father and son” relationship they had. Whether I was 5, 15, 25 or 45 my dad, and mom never stopped being parents and they had no problem telling me what they thought about how I was leading my life, spending my money or raising my kids. You NEVER stop being a parent. You never stop teaching. Like a lot of responsible parents I’ve helped my kids deal with addiction, debt and abusive relationships. As long as you keep teaching and preaching sooner or later they will learn and listen. If Carl really loved DT and if DT really respected him, the way a child SHOULD respect a parent he could have cooled DT’s heels when he and his posse were making it rain at Diamond Joe’s. Too bad Carl didn’t want to take responsibility for DT’s life off the field the way he took credit for his life on it.
He was a helluva player but as that motivational poster says…after you’re gone, the money, the awards and accolades don’t mean as much as whether or not you made a difference in the life of a child.
Smartman is right. The real heroes are the men and women, single and married, that put the safety, welfare and education of their kids above all else, regardless of the cost or sacrifice.

A real man dosen’t father 8 or 9 kids with as many women. A real dad is someone who is always there, not a guy who buys you stuff and takes you to practice once in a while. Perfect? Of course, no body is but being responsible is part of the duties of being a father, not being a ho chaser and drunk. The fact that our society would honor a bastard kid fathering athlete by naming a grade school after him is beyond belief. Control? After you leave home, you are supposed control yourself, it’s called being a grown up. If you did your job as a father, you don’t have to try and control them, you should have given them the tools to qualify for college and prepare them for life and all of its challenges.

He was partial to the strong leathery notes. Boys will be boyz. Carl and Marty both failed to provide any moral leadership to the hoodlums they recruited. (See the recent Dale Carter post and Craig Glazers comments). You do have to be THUG LIFE NASTY to succeed on the field in the NFL. You also have to have the discipline to turn that off when you’re not playing. As long as butts were in seats and the W’s were greater than the L’s nobody within the Chiefs organization gave a shit about those guys. There’s some karma in play for why they never won a championship despite all the talent.
