Greg – you only quoted Mick Shaeffer from Metro Sports on the Derrick Thomas Hall of Fame stuff. Was he the only guy there? I find that hard to believe. DT could be the last Chief for quite some time to get inducted. I swear I saw Len Dawson there during the ESPN coverage. Did Channel 9 not send someone with Len? If not, that’s sad. I would have liked to hear from Lenny since he played with so many great defensive players who are in the Hall of Fame.

I don’t know how you find such things out, but I have a distinct visual memory of watching DT’s 7 sack performance of futility against the Seahawks on TV. I think it was on free TV – even then.
So that begs the question Greg…why were perennials and gardening more important than the Chiefs on TV?

I’ll just say this about Derrick–he was a great player, but I’ll always remember that he was benched in the second half of the biggest game he ever played in–the 1994 AFC championship in Buffalo. That’s a part of the legacy too…

Mick Shaffer of Metro Sports was the only local TV reporter there covering DT’s HOF induction. Len Dawson was there as a member of the HOF and did some work for Channel 9 on the new Lamar Hunt Super Bowl wing.

NoName, when Carl Peterson extolls DT’s qualities as a man as well as a football players, it begs for perspective. Thomas had many fine qualities, but he was hardly a role model off the field — unless you admire party guys who sleep around and spawn children indiscriminately — then leave them with reckless, irresponsible driving. These were known, and commented upon, during DTs life (and in the weeks after his death as the facts of the accident became available).
Thomas was certainly a Hall of Fame player; whether he was a HOF man is another matter.

be emotional. We watched DT do amazing things
on the field. Too businesslike? Greg..where

things derrick did on the field and more importantly what he did off the field.
Woodson didnt have much to say about his off
the field activities. The other inductees didnt
have much to say about their off field charity
work. That’s because they did none.
The kids in the audience from the 3rd and long
and the academy…that was businesslike.

there were lean times here in kc but once again

It displays an incredible amount of personal insecurity to denigate others in order to elevate one’s self-esteem.

My dad recently had his knees replaced. Part of the recovery was wearing these spandax/leg warmer looking pants to help prevent blood clots. The nurses were telling my dad DT refused to wear these pants because of how he looked in them. Blood clots DID kill DT.
