Brett Mosiman may able to trick acts into playing at this dump, but he mistakes his wakarusa fest with a real concert venue. As much as I wanted to go my girlfirend refuse to attend a “permanent” venue where porta-potties are the answer. But in hind sight, wioth the rian that dirt floor would be a mess, and the overflowing porta potties are always disgusting.
Mosiman needs to take some of the hundreds of thousands of dollars he made this summer, and reinvest in his venue, or is he only all about pure greed.
If he refuses to add indoor plumbing, AS LEAST buy some of those fancy portable toilets so my girlfriend will attend. We went to a show in another city, and they had portable toilets that resembled real bathrooms, it was amazing.
As far as the dirt floor turning to mud, that is another story.

Running the number with ticket prices at $30-$80 they are clearing about $30,000- $50,000 per show, not including booze profits.
I REALLY want to see Blondie on Tuesday, but I have out gorwn playing in the mud, not to metnion overflowing stinky porta potties.

The point is there are a LOT of high venues in Kansas City to see show rather than deal with Mosiman’s dump. It would be one thing if the prices reflected the lack of real bathrooms, a/c and weather protection (they had to stop the show to avoid being killed by lightening), BUT this landfill is charging as much or more for tickets than the REAL VENUES.
If you enjoy a “woodtock” style rainy mud show, that is OK for you. I stated my opinion, and how my girl feels. If you had fun, good for you.
Hope you have fun again in the rain and mud on Tuesday for Blondie, we wont be there, no big deal.

I don’t have a problem with the Crossroads and in fact enjoy seeing shows there.
Mud? Haven’t had a problem and I was at the downpour that hit the English Beat show. Covered in woodchips so it would have to be a real deluge (which would most likely cancel show anyway)for mud to be a major issue.
Bathrooms? They have real bathrooms inside Grinders ( a female might have a substantial wait however) if someone is uncomfortable using the porta-potty.
Cost of shows? Very affordable. Paid less than $30 for a 2 1/2 Govt Mule show as well as with most of the shows I’ve seen there and have been on the guest list for a few others. In addition, they usually have one or two FREE shows every summer and sometimes hand out free tickets to concertgoers for upcoming, less-attended shows.
Some folks just like to complain, I guess.

This sounds a lot more like someone has an axe to grind with the owners of Grinders/Crossroads than an actual complaint about this particular concert or venue. First off, it’s an outdoor concert venue, so it isn’t even in the same category as the Uptown or VooDoo Lounge. If you like seeing your concerts inside, with plumbing, then have at it. Any place where you can see a show outside, rain or shine, has issues with mud or outdoor toilets – this doesn’t make the owners of Crossroads cheap or assholes. Have you noticed how many improvements to the space have been made since it first opened? There is a real stage, LOTS of port-a-potties (which I’ve never had to wait very long in line for), many bar options, food, some seating, a VIP section, and, frankly, the mulch is an improvement over the original groundskeeping back there. They book great concerts in a cool venue with a great view of KC – this is my opinion.

Eventually the BS floats to the top, and honesty pervails, but in the mean time bribes allow the crap to stay beneath the surface, but just as is the case of the crossroads we can sure smell it.

How is a so-called “bribed opinion” (especially when I’ve PAID for the 95% of the shows I’ve attended there) any different from one that comes from a person who clearly has predetermined contempt for the owners/establishment?
And thanks for equating what is simply the nice gesture of a guestlist inclusion to a sparsely attended show with the likes of supposedly trusted, elected officials using their positions of influence to exact ILLEGAL monetary bribes. Nice analogy.

I have no problem with either the Uptown or Voodoo (which is in fact my favorite KC venue, well outside of Knuckleheads that is) but when a band I really want to see such as Gov’t Mule and the English Beat (who I both saw previously at the Voodoo btw)is swinging thru at the Crossroads, then I’m there. I really don’t mind the place.

Amazing show, pretty crowded too, considering the weather. The Avett Brothers are definitely much more upbeat outdoors, and I loved hearing their grateful sentiments to the crowd almost as I did the awesome setlist and great soundboard. And what a gifted bunch of screamers? I didn’t think that would translate as cleanly as it did.
It’s pretty sad to hear that toilets and supposed mud (rubber-composite mulch, I’m pretty sure?) kept any “real fan” from attending, but it probably didn’t. I’ve been to Crossroads and Grinders a half dozen times just this summer, no complaints. I love outdoor shows and Crossroads does them well as anywhere. And before, we had to go to Lawrence to see bands like the Avett Brothers. Thanks also to the awesome staff at Grinders.
