Why is the media having this knee-jerk reaction over this? They act like Haley just dismissed Vince Lombardi. This team isn’t going anywhere with or without Chan Gailey calling plays. Everybody needs to chill out and prepare for a long ugly season.
And with the 2nd pick in the 2010 NFL draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select…
Chuckles
lines of the hour, pretty dang funny : )

So Jack Harry is just figuring out that Todd Haley is a “control freak?” Imagine that, from a coaching protege of Parcells. If Harry had a brain, a specious proposition, he could have said the same thing on Day 1 of Haley’s hiring.
What I got from Petro’s take was that it was more Haley having Gainey forced on him, for reasons of organizational continuity, than the other way around. That view makes sense, at least, even if continuity is hardly a virtue or necessity for a franchise which had sunk to the point of having to dump both its GM and HC in 2008.
Why does KK even open his mouth when he doesn’t know what the hell he’s talking about? The imagined Todd-Chan dialogue was a poor substitute for insightful analysis. Of all the people to comment on this, LJ (amazingly) summed it up best. Two alpha males, especially those bonded by nothing more than a contract, were not going to mutually co-exist.
I’m not sure Haley can be effective as both HC and OC, but since he didn’t trust Gainey he was going to be wearing both hats anyway. My view, for what it’s worth, is that it’s better to make the change now — before the regular season begins — than to let the situation continue to fester. It’s not like it’s going to cost the Chiefs a Super Bowl.
Old Man Kissel
A lot of good insite on 810. 610…not so much. Just frat boy radio.
810 scoops 610 once again!

The timing is awful but this was inevitable. Gailey will find another job. It’s going to take 3 to 5 years to get back to the good old days. It remains to be seen if Pioli and Haley are the guys to lead the Chiefs back to being relevant. Patience is a virtue we need to practice this season. Speculation is great but none of us have all the facts. Effort and improvement are the only things the organization needs to demonstrate. Let’s wait til mid-season before we over-react.
Old Man Kissel
Read Whitlocks column. Hate to say it, but he’s on the mark with his thoughts on Haley and Egoli.

I’m stunned how freaked out the media and others are getting over EVERY Chiefs move….”Oh, my gosh, Bowe is on the 3rd team!”…”Our offensive line is terrible!”…”Is Croyle gonna start?!”….”Haley is a control freak egomaniac!”…….
Dudes. CHILL!
We were freakin’ 2-14 last year. We haven’t won a playoff game for almost 2 decades. We have a new GM, a new head coach, and a team of untalented players thanks to Peterson and Edwards.
Haley could trade every player away tomorrow and it still wouldn’t register a blip on my panic monitor.
We all should have a “wait and see” attitude. I know it’s not good for the shock-jocks like Hall and Whitlock and KK and Harry, but it’s the ONLY thing to do.
Pioli doesn’t seem like an idiot to me. I feel very strongly that if it becomes painfully obvious that Haley is in over his head, Pioli will fix the problem next off-season. Let’s see what these guys can do.
I was AT the game Saturday, and the offense was puzzling. Our running game was looking pretty good, then there goes Thigpen throwing crappy passes all over the place. WTF was Gailey trying to do?
Old Man Kissel
Nick, I think it is time to panic. Only bad teams and people who don’t know what their doing does moves like this. Getting rid of Chan was good. If it happend in Feb. Not late Aug. Egoli and Cocky Todd have a lot of work to do.
So-far I’m not impressed.
810 scoops 610 once again!

Facts: first time in NFL history…all three west teams don’t matter…and are three of the worst teams in the NFL..Kc/Denver/Oakland…Oakland had a shot to be ok, but all this front office crap will seal their fate…all three could win just 3 against each other…no more national tv for Oakland/Kc or Denver/Kc or Denver/Oakland, its over…
Fact: the Chiefs have no one on either side of the line that scares anyone…”Bill Mass” l998 and it still fits
craig glazer
How is this KC Chiefs at KU, Jayhawks favored by 2 at home…I like it…..
nick
Old Man Kissel,
Isn’t it better to do it now and go throuh the “pains of change” than to put it off until late in the year. NOBODY’s expecting more than 5 or 6 wins no matter who’s coaching or playing.
I like the idea of Haley giving this a shot. Calling plays is clearly something he LOVES to do, and I’m excited that he’s excited about doing it. It bothers me a little bit that he won’t be paying attention as much to defense and clock management perhaps, but I imagine as it evolves, other coaches might be given different responsibilities.
We knew Peterson. TOO well. We don’t know Pioli yet. Maybe I’m a naive idiot, but I sense that Pioli is the type that isn’t going to let things get away from him. Let’s let the season un-fold, THEN judge if Haley is in over his head. I’m confident Pioli will be doing the same.
And do you work for 810? If so, tell them to stop shilling for crap during the talk segments. Chris and Cowboy and Nick Wright talking about what they did over the weekend is far more entertaining than KK telling to buy a new suit or new golf clubs. And ask Clinkscale if he was the inspiration for the character Squidward on Spongebob Squarepants.
Deeds
CG once they were posted the oods started moving fast, KU is now favored by 6 1/2.
Chiefs fans are screwed, dang it.
I dont think it can get much worse than this ….. oops there goes the bath water >>>>>> and >>>>>>there goes >>>>> the baby>>>>>
If the Chiefs were a stock on wall street, I would buy em with both arms.
Brett Favre is looking pretty good, as is Mr Vick. Thank goodness for DirecTV, it may be the only NFL joy this year.
Lets hope this dark cloud over Arrowhead passes, and soon we will be looking over a 4 leaf clover……

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.
It’s football guys and gals and jojo. Kids are getting wasted by the dozen in Afghanistan. Forget about the rookie head coach at 1AD and worry about the rookie in the White House.
Paul
Gailey SUCKED as a OC….Haley will get it right.
Glib
yeah, haley will get it right.
He will do as well at OC as he did at playing football in high school and college. He will do as well in this head coachiong job as he did in his previous head coaching jobs. His track record speaks for itself. He had to fight hard to get his first job in the NFL. It was admirable how he beat out many better qualified applicants when he asked his daddy for a job with the New York Jets.
bschloz
Haley was coaching in the Super Bowl last year, Odd No?
Pre-Season means shit.
Be careful all of you Under bettors.
Old Man Kissel
Hope Cocky Todd calls a better game against the Ravens then he did in last years SB.
810 scoops 610 once again!

I recall that Pitt won the Superbowl, but who ever remembers who lost Superbowl?
haleyboy is a control freak who nepotismed his way up the NFL ladder, but he is now over his head. The spotlight will fry him.
It sucks that he is allowed to learn his job while Chiefs fans are forced to put up with his inepitude. haleyboy will get fired, sooner than later, and will be just be another name along side Paul Wiggin, Tom Bettis, Frank Ganz,,,etc. etc.
Lets see how it goes, but fans are growing weary of being abused by this club. Kansas City has the best fans, but this is getting old.
I still do not understand why ANYONE would pay 63 million for a short tested QB before they had to? His NONhit injury was as predictable as the sun rising.
Another prediction? Matt Guiterez will emerge as a star QB, he understands winning.
rick
Not much to add. Stunned at such strong comments from Dave Stewart.
Nick and Smartman, my thinking is along you’re same lines. Just to early to tell much and patience is needed.
ManD-Great line better to worry about the president. Good stuff.
amabo
rick, I am not slamming, merely asking. Why is it better to worry about the prez? Is worrying about the prez really worth my time?
I have (small, itty bitty) hope that (maybe) comments posted here about the Chiefs, might have some minute chance of having an impact on people making decsions on our team. I doubt it, but at least if enough people say a common opinion enough, it might reach eyes that might agree and say…”yeah, ok, that is a solid opinion”. I doubt it, but there is a chance.I dont need to be told it is not likley, but there is a slim chance.
BUT, anything ANYONE says on a blog about the prez will only fall on deaf ears and blind eyes, unless it is considered worthy of someone to come arrest someone for being a threat, and NO ONE SHOULD EVER threaten anyone, but as far as suggestions to him, to make our country better??, 0% chance it will have an affect.
just a thought..
Uncle Dick
All this politic crap is starting to make me miss jojo. Probably figured while he was in Mexico, he should go to California, being he’s so close. You just go south on U.S.54 and then go east on U.S.50.
Dexter Morgan
Wasn’t Arizona winning with 2 minutes to go in the Super Bowl? Wasn’t it their defense that let them down? Clancy Pendergast’s defense?
I seem to remember Haley’s offense doing what it needed to do to win. Kurt Warner’s bonehead INT and that defense breaking down at the end is what cost them a ring.
And with the 2nd pick in the 2010 NFL draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select…
rick
I just thought it was a great line. I guess for me it was about their is more important things in life then sports…..which I need to be reminded of. Sadly…and I’m speaking for myself….I know more, talk more, think more about the Chiefs then I do say the health care debate.
I have to wonder if I had the same passion for political issues as I do other issues of less or no importance like the TV show LOST, movies, my favorite restaurants, wrestling, etc if I would/could make a difference.
You have an interesting take on the potential impact on what we write. But I guess i can see it further. I think the chances of me having an impact on the Chiefs is remote. But yet I could start a campaign for city council Wednesday and impact my community. Heck if the Prez came to town he might invite me to a $500.00 plate dinner. Look if Sarah Palin can……..
I don’t want to start a religious discussion not because I wouldn’t enjoy it but I don’t think this is the forum. But I think the best selling book has it right…..we all want a life of purpose (Based on the book Purpose Driven Life)
Also based on the bible you shouldn’t worry about anything (that’s where faith comes in). But you should pray. Including prayer for leaders like our president.
Ok two questions for you. 1-You read all these folks on this blog. Do you think their is a chance that their ever would be a common opinion? 2-Do you think that people that are presidents have the ability to grow and change based on what they read, see, and hear.
PS I had some interaction with Lamar Hunt who was a HUGE tennis fan and player. Never spoke to him about the Chiefs. I doubt if most people have a complete view of Lamar’s impact on sports in general not just football. But the point is that YES, you as one voice can have an impact on the Chiefs. The key is getting that voice heard.
rick
Wow Uncle D I’m sure you just hated my post. Ha ha. I want to make sure you are clear. Jo-Blow is in Mexico Missouri and then will be going to California Missouri.
Old Man Kissel
Dexter Morgan, saw thia on a message board. Interesting thoughts on Cocky Todd’s offense.
Ranked 18th in scoring offense is a machine? He had Kurt Warner, Fitzgerald and Boldin and all they could muster was 17+ pts. per game? Let’s face it, he simply rode a 3-game playoff stretch on the back of Fitzgerald into this gig.
Old Man Kissel
810 scoops 610 once again!

Haley wants to sink or swim on his own merit not because of an offensive coordinator that was forced on him. I think Kietzman had this correct. Haley knows if he doesn’t get rid of him now he might be saddled with him for his whole time in KC which could be short.
He is a control freak just like most coaches at this level and it will be interesting to see if this will be his undoing.
At least the Chiefs are entertaining. Maybe not on the field but off the field. I am wondering what the next move will be? Who will be the player that is cut that we didn’t expect?
Big Jim McBob
Billy Bob Maas was on 610am a couple of hours ago..his take:
Todd wants more vertical passing, you know like Arizona.
I was good with that…till I remembered:
1. Croyle/Cassel/Thigpen will be running for their lives.
2.KC doesn’t have Fitzgerald and Boldin.
Huh? Back to wherever you’ve been, Billy Bob.
amabo
sorry Uncle, you are correct, but/so I have to answer I asked for, and then I will stop politics, for now.
rick sed
Ok two questions for you.
1-You read all these folks on this blog. Do you think their is a chance that their ever would be a common opinion?
I would estimate that probabilty
to be 0.0456% – minus10%
that 100% of posters here would EVER, at any fixed moment in time, agree 100% on any topic. IF we ever did agree 100%, that certainly would be something “they” should consider as a good opinion. whomever “they” are.
btw-
The est probability the opinion
we 100% agreed upon might actually be the correct opinion?, about 5%
2-Do you think that people that are presidents have the ability to grow and change based on what they read, see, and hear.
Yes, he is a new man every day. You never wake up with the same person twice. Every day we change a little bit.
BUT, would “they” ever allow the prez to actually change his mind, 180degrees on any given policy, based on one thing (backed by 3 ref sources) which he read and changed his mind?, no way “they” would let him.
He may change, but “they” wont.
fin
AND now back to sports,,,, cuz I am probably got both questions wrong, but I am open to suggestions, I can see another view and change to be correct, but it could be the full moon fever coming on.
SPORTS UPDATE-
It looks like there are only 300 fans in the stands at the Royals/Oakland gamne tonight. No kidding 300 people, maybe 250. have a look. 1-1 bot of the 3rd.
Uncle Dick
Yes Rick,
A Mid-Missouri vacation for Mr.Gotrocks. Hope he didn’t blow the family fortune at the arcades in Bagnell.
And yes, one person can truly make a difference. Gandhi, Rosa Parks, Lech Walesa, single voices that brought about change and created a movement.
Take jojo for example. A voice that unified all of us to question his sanity and words that read like a huge movement.
rick
concur
Dino Martini
The Prez?….The Bible?….what the hell is going on here? Let’s all settle down and have a cocktail. By the way, 810 is just one big commercial fart.
Dexter Morgan
Old Man Kissel, I do not disagree. But Todd Haley did his job in the Super Bowl. I’m not saying he deserves to be a head coach, but he called some great plays in that game.
