There’s nothing quite as entertaining as rich white people fighting about property values. 
And I was just thinking that a recent kerfuffle among the last remaining Eastside classy types in the Crestwood neighborhood was the perfect subject matter for my first post at Hearne’s place.
It has already been reported that the Rockhill Tennis Club is moving in and plans major redeveloping which not-so-surprisingly has neighbors fuming.
But that’s not the end of the story. Because I’m somewhat fluent in the “language of the oppressor” white people with money sometimes confide in me. I like this because it reminds me that we all have our challenges to overcome. Someday I hope my biggest problems revolve around Country Clubs and not how I’m going to pay for Chinese food on the weekend.
Here’s the situation: The Nelly Don Mansion, named for an old white lady who was good with a needle in a profitable manner, sits on a very small parcel of land. The big plans of the Rockhill Club include a competition pool, four tennis courts, a clubhouse and a snack bar/pub. In order to get this done almost all the trees will have to be removed. And like a great many Kansas City developments, there is no parking.

there was a plan afoot to move the RTC to the old Baptist Hospital complex on Rockhill Rd… but that would be too easy, what with ample parking and all. besides, what’s the fun in being a country club if you’re not a gigantic pain in the neighborhood’s ass?
I hear there’s some open land out near the old Bannister Mall…
