So you’re saying my youth group from church should just catch a movie? Still need to be careful, we thought Behind the Green Door was a love story about Kermit and Miss Piggy.

Why should the Star be responsible for running a review at a certain time? The Star barely covers news. And who even looks to the Star for that news?
Even if the review ran a couple days earlier – most people would have already bought tickets for the weekend shows.
The people selling the tickets have the responsiblity to let the audience know what they’re in for.

The obvious reason is the Star didn’t want to offend an advertiser by ratting out some soft porn to the masses. Bad for business? Could be other reasons too. I doubt you bothered to seek comment from the Star. The bigger issue is that this is proof of the ignorance of some of the common metro area theater-goers. More in love with the idea of going to the theater than the purpose of going. Kinda like Chiefs fans. The purpose of live theater is to inspire thought and emotion not just simply to “entertain”. Is what went on on stage any worse than an episode of Greys Anatomy or Queer as Folk? For anyone to be offended by this play is to suggest some real sexual repression, lack of intellectual horsepower to process the play in the proper context or the ability to explain it to children who one day soon will be sprouting boners and wetness of their own. For those preferring to play it safe, being unfamiliar with the play, a little foreplay with Google would give you the lowdown on the throwdown.

smartman hits the nail on the head, glad to see someone on this godforsaken site is somewhat rational.
And goddamn hearne you sure come off like a prude considering how sordid your reputation in KC is. You sound like some uptight JoCo Nazarene soccer mom.
BTW all this bagging on the Star is like making fun of someone with Downs Syndrome. Everyone knows they are handicapped, going on and on about it just makes you look like an asshole.
the last word
This is another one. Please reframe from using profanity if you don’t want to loss readers. Not a prude but many of us have family computers that don’t allow for adult content. You can say the same thing without all the profanity. Thanks
Also if you use a work relatedd computer (not that i would ever do that hee hee) many don’t allow access if profanity is used.

Oh the tangled web we weave when first we try to decieve….hmmmm
Fucked
FUCK FUCK FUCK,
hearbe is no prude, he is just a dude, calling it like he sees it, and I for one appreciate him. He makes himself an easy target for the peanut gallery, so how about all you do-gooder-teller-thingy-dealys,,,FUCK OFF.
great story hearne, I recall the uproar over that nude guy at the rep, the one with the horses,,,Equus,, i think?…. anway.. but at least they told people, and packed em in..
HELLO!
Seriously, people need to start reading and quit blaming others. The ad in the Star did say it was for mature audiences. Sounds like bitter blood from the blogger….
hearne
Hey Hello, since when did ads with virtually unnoticeable, ultra faint fine print pass as a substitute for reporting in journalism? Critics are supposed to report and comment on what they see. Not every single thing, but – hello – four substantive, major league, graphic sex scenes with nary the slightest mention?

Star dropped the ball on this one. Anybody know if the Broadway Across America group sent any notice out to subscribers about the content of this play? All this brouhaha is going to do is keep us freom getting any cutting edge theater on the big stage in KC so now we have to schlup to Chicago or NY.
