It is not always wise to overproduce a classic sci-fi/horror thriller…
Throwing millions of dollars into special effects doesn’t necessarily enhance the end product—sometimes doing just the opposite.
Which brings us to H.G. Wells’ iconic 1933 thriller “THE INVISIBLE MAN” with Claude Rains. Sure, it has often been imitated but never really successfully duplicated.
That may change this weekend as shock-meister and producer Jason Blum re-imagines the invisible legacy in a modern day setting!
The basics are similar, but the storyline differs as we find Elisabeth Moss trapped in a violent, controlling relationship with a wealthy, brilliant scientist. Bottom line; she escapes his ocean side villa in the dead of night, disappearing into hiding with the help of her sister and a childhood friend.
Meanwhile there’s news about her protagonist: he’s committed suicide.
But is it a hoax?
And what of those eerie coincidences are now bedeviling our damsel in distress?
Then there’s the matter of a hefty inheritance to be divvied up.
It all seems strange…
STRANGER And downright DISORIENTED!
Is she being hunted by someone nobody can see? And if so, WHY?
That’s as far as I want to take the plot without giving too much away.
Suffice it to say, this terrifying, edge-of-your-seat concept is well executed for today’s sci-fi / shock fans,
Audience’ jumps galore throughout the film’s two hour, R-rated running time.
And it’s all held together by the film’s terrific, haunting musical score.
“THE INVISIBLE MAN” grades a solid B.
(Hitchcock would be proud.)
Again. Hollywood is out of ideas. Yet another retread.
Perhaps…
But don’t let that bother you, this is a really well done movie
I like the way the bandages look the same as in the first movie, way, way, back in the day.

I went last night and…
Great movie…deserving of the plaudits it’s getting.
My date – who is not what you would call a horror buff – spent much of the movie with eyes closed.
Sure kept ME awake—-comfy lounger chairs and all 🙂
My GF Janet was beside herself the en tire movie
Could not suspend disbelief that Elizabeth Moss, that eternal stunning beauty, was the victim of a wealthy stalker who has to have her.
I would say her looks hit the wall hard but was there ever a time when she was cute or likeable?
