Even in Kansas City, increasing fame comes at a cost.
Craig Glazer is currently on a roll. His comedy club Stanford & Sons at the Legends is going strong and an auto-biography based on his life is being turned into a movie. An impresario of the local entertainment scene couldn’t ask for more except for someone to share it with, and that’s where things get sketchy for Glazer.
While fame and money are elusive for any Kansas City area resident, steady relationships are increasingly tougher to maintain. In that context, I’m sad to report that Craig Glazer is no longer dating the gal so many Kansas City media watchers know as “Black Barbie,” a smoking hot local entertainer named Monique Hall.
Here’s a bit of the backstory on their relationship:
Glazer gave Hall the moniker “Black Barbie” during his regular appearances on The Johnny Dare Show where he’d get a modicum of teasing over the relationship with a gorgeous lady he dated that was around half his age. Glazer encouraged Hall to accompany him on several of these appearances but she declined despite her rather charismatic and charming personality. I met her once at Jardine’s and she seemed really nice but I can probably understand why she might not have wanted to embrace the “Black Barbie” character. It was a shtick that played well on the radio for Glazer but a person of color taking on that persona is another proposition altogether. Then again, this is a local “exotic dancer” we’re talking about and not Rosa Parks so I don’t want to delve into the cultural logistics of the whole thing too much.
After chatting with Glazer for a few moments on the subject of the split, I totally accept his contention that different career trajectories and ambitions brought the relationship to a close. Glazer is one of this town’s movers and shakers in the entertainment scene and he says he was attempting to jump start Hall’s career as well. Because of Glazer’s resources this is a rather brilliant tactic to employ in the pursuit of hot chicks given that most guys (especially me) can only offer a few complimentary fast food meals to potential romantic interests. Ironically, according to Glazer, it was that very same career career ambition for himself and everyone around him that was the main factor in causing the breakup. Still, it’s kinda cool the guy doesn’t have any hard feelings.
“I really do wish her the best and hope that we can remain friends,” Glazer lamented while actually making me believe the standard breakup line. “She truly is a talented person with a great deal of potential. And who knows? Maybe one day we can date again.”
In the meantime, as a public service for folks who want to take a peak at the nearly perfect 10 Glazer’s good fortune led him to turn away: Word is she’s back at Totally Nude Temptations picking up a few shifts. The romantic in me is certainly curious and would undoubtedly be mesmerized by a hottie that’s out of my league but still didn’t measure up to the standards of a local entrepreneur.

Good because personally that deal made me sick. It’s not 1960 but I’m not to the point where I am totally comfortable with white guys and black girls especially stripper black girls. I was happy for them but at the same time it was like eeewww.Something’s not right on Main tonight. I saw this at years ago at a rest home. Love is ageless. I personally choose to date young women because I don’t have to compete against their career, I don’t have to deal with ex husbands and kids, they are more into you and not all the surrounding junk. Okay, I’ve known Craig personally for over ten years, I’m not his best friend by any means but I know the man. The sad fact is, in this city, Craig doesn’t get nearly the respect he deserves. If Craig were in St. Louis, Chicago or New York he’d have his own radio show at the very least. The man is entertaining as hell, outrageous and bombastic. You can love Craig or hate him, but you cannot deny that he is entertaining as hell.
