There’s a gale force storm heading the Wednesday Star’s way…
Food for near future thought.
Now a brief missive for readers of a certain journalistic stripe who would paint Star Search into a corner of their own design: this isn’t your father’s Olds; the mission here is not to read TV Barn or seek excuses for perceived shortcomings. It’s merely to read the daily print edition of the Kansas City Star and sort it out as any paying customer might. That I worked there – heavily edited – for 16 years, writing FYI columns, news stories for

Still lame.

It was fun a few times but now you are just a one-trick pony.

I like the concept but I’m just not finding anything compelling in the way of analysis. Other than telling me how much money the Star makes off of obits, I can’t say I’ve learned much.

I rarely read these but when i do….he usually convinces me to buy the Star. I usually see a news stand and just based on seeing that half of the front page I’ll determine if I want to buy the paper or not. But then Hearne will give me a more complete description of what is in the paper. I’ll usually decide that their is something of interest and buy it.
So HEARNE if your goal is to sell more papers for the STAR, you are doing a good job!!!

I’m a big fan of getting home from a hard day’s work, pouring a tall glass of IPA, and taking about 20 minutes to decompress by reading the daily Star. Sure, I probably already know more than half of the content before I read it – it is 6:30 in the evening after all – but if this is what the world’s coming to, that is, being able to get your news via a computer screen ONLY (which I know that’s the trend, that’s how I get most of mine too), then it’s just a really sad state of affairs. Then again, I hate MP3s and overall demise of CD’s. Call me old-fashioned, but I’m 35.

It’s just real hard for me to hold the computer and the mouse when I’m sitting on the toilet. Plus trying to wipe. Just toooooooo much work. I’d rather take the newspaper in the bathroom with me. Hey, ain’t the Cos funny!!!!

Inform and entertain, Rick, that’s the mission.
And if I can help steer you either towards or away from the Star, mission accomplished. I’d also like to offer some insight from a journalistic standpoint. Trust me, I didn’t walk away empty handed after 16 years of turning in columns and news stories on a daily basis. I know how the game is played, and I know the players.
And since by far and away, most locals don’t subscribe to the Star, they can pick up some news I think they could use. My online reader only friends used to miss stories in the Star all the time because they didn’t put in enough clicks to stumble onto them.
Perhaps I can help…

we all know millions are coming to this website.

Also Elvis is alive, Michael didn’t touch those boys, and OJ is innocent.

And how about, you have a clue?
Ahmad Rashad
Clue about what? The game? That the police would be out last night doing DWI checks? Yeah, I had a clue on all these things.
