The box office Thor, that is…
No doubt about who is going to win the movie ticket race this weekend, but don’t underestimate Mila Kunis, Kathryn Hahn and Kristen Bell as they are about to tackle the most wonderful time of the year.
That is until their mothers (Christine Baranski, Cheryl Hines and Susan Sarandon) enter their daughter’s holiday zones bringing a whole lot of crazy and anxiety.
And while the 2016 original was a box office hit, I’ll go out on a limb and suggest that this sequel is an even better movie.
Sure it slows down a bit in places, but then it picks itself right back up for more laugh-out-loud dialogue and scenes.
Is it rude and crude?
Let’s just say that it more than earns its R rating on many levels.
A BAD MOMS CHRISTMAS is obviously targeted to female audiences.
But guess what? Our screening crowd yukked it up on both sides of the great sexual divide—and deservedly so.
But of course the BAD MOMS face some other major challenges this weekend.
They’re from Marvel/Disney who are putting the hammer down with the third installment of their mighty THOR franchise.
And now with THOR: RAGNAROK the filmmakers have taken a page from their own VERY successful GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY series by making this second follow-up for a much wider audience.
How you ask? Simple.
They have given this new superhero movie more of a comic groove.
Granted, to some of us it may seem a bit forced, but we’ll be in the minority!
Take terrific effects, a good sci-fi storyline all wrapped around Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Mark Ruffalo, Jeff Goldblum and Anthony Hopkins and Disney offers yet another major blockbuster that could very well open north of $100 million (domestic) this weekend.
So what is it going to be?
A BAD MOMS CHRISTMAS or THOR: RAGNAROK?
How about taking in both? Bet you haven’t heard me recommend that kind of game plan lately!
