The Kansas City Star cares much, much more about APSE awards than they do about serving their readers. That has gone on for years.

The KU story is serious and it is above all a news story as much as a sports story. It is sickening the glee that some of the sports radio people (I’m talking KK specifically) are having at this story. KK’s joy is the fact that he thinks this will all benefit K-State in some way. Think again.

This is the state of college sports today. It goes on at other places and KU is now in the fire today. Tomorrow it could be your school. Throw your mud at KU, but you better come to the table with clean hands. Is that crickets I hear chirping??

Lew Perkins is an old, Dumbo-eared, sad, pathetic douchebag of a man. He looked and sounded so stupid yesterday. He made Roger Clemons and his “misremembered” steroid testimony sound like Aristotle. That he still has a job says more about KU than the scandal itself.

Is Shan Shariff still in town?

Leabo is right. KK doesn’t want to know all the secrets inside the walls at WHB.

Jack Harry is starting to give Walt Bodine a run for his money.

I sent e-mais to all the US Senators and Representatives in KS and MO today asking for a federal investigation in addition to the FBI and IRS cases.

At 4 mil a year Lew should know what color underwear his employees are wearing every day, including weekends. You can’t see red flags when all you’re looking for is green money.

beware of the phog that clouds your schools
    reputation….
I TOLD YOU SO. IWARNED YOU…I TRIED TO HELP
    YOU AVERT THIS.
GO TO THE MALL AND SEE THE CONMANS CASES FILLED
WITH PRIME KU SEATS. WHERE DID HE GET THEM?
    UH…HELLO!
go online to see where the good ku seats are..
where the big 12 prime seats were…guy named
william had them all…i called him and his
    prices were outrageous.
So now…listen to me ku fans.
Get rid of the guy. Get rid of him now. No amount
of wins will change what he’s done.
you will still be a winner but theres no hop
e in avoiding a major scandal with this
    lou-ser in the perch.
Then make sure everyone lawyers up because this
is really big. How big? Big because it strethces
across the nation. Big because you will find that KU got into the mud with the knetuckys…
memphis’s…etc. in the world to get those
great recruits. And when you get in the mud..
    you get dirty.
    And with 18,000 tickets gone…what happens…
someone starts talking…and when they start
talking it goes to the top.
I warned you…heed me or pay the price……….
and then watch the dominos fall.

That Jack Harry take is pure hogwash and bunk. Fiddlesticks. I’m not sure why you always feel the need to go ape and give him the business just because he may not exactly be Mr. Groovy anymore. What gives? Tarnation, man! Good grief, for my money, Jack’s boss. I mean bitchin’. A Ready Teddy from Realsville, daddy-o!

GH: I think every fan of college sports has a right to feel wronged by this KU ticket scandal. These people besmirched the reputation of not only KU but the Big 12 and all of college sports.

The reputation of college sports has been damaged by this? Isn’t the cat already out of the bag on that one Greg?

I’m a big fan of college football and basketball and I couldn’t care less about this ticket BS. Some suits in the KU offices were manipulating the system and taking money out the back door? Good for them. Everybody else is making money off those college players, why shouldn’t a few more. Until this Freeman idiot got popped and sang like a canary they were rolling in dough.

Unless this cancels the football and basketball seasons coming in 2010, wake me when this blows over. Because unless you are a KU hater there’s really not much to get excited about.

Embarassing yes but we gained no recruiting advantage and the only people with a right to be outraged are people who contributed to the Williams Fund and then didn’t get the seats they should have.
A bunch of people from Oklahoma ticket office who were dirty got caught.
If I was in the Oklahoma ticket office I would be expecting some visitors. These guys learned there tricks somewhere.
Lew has done a lot of good things for the school, embarassing no doubt but a lot of politicians survive worse.

This is a time for fans of other schools to have some fun, but it will blow over.

Whitlock is closer to the mark than people are giving him credit for. when money chasing is all that matters at the top, it’s easy to follow that it will be the culture below. NCAA cares about money first. KU cares about money first. Williams Fund cares about money first. Lew cares about money first…

The Yahoo story blew the Star out of the water.

Has anyone talked about how this is going to impact KU in the conference realignment shake up? I think all those false hopes of KU somehow leap frogging ahead of Mizzou to the Big 10 just blew out of Sweet Lew’s ass.

Whew! I think Dexter Morgan’s comments are probably the stupidest I’ve seen in my lifetime. That’s saying a lot. Pull your head out of your ass, man.

In the nationwide scheme of things, not many people care much about a Yahoo! Sports report. At this point, it probably IS just something for MU and KSU fans to giggle at. But when the FBI’s investigation comes out this story goes viral. The bad pub coming KU’s way has only just begun.

Academic fraud, lack of institutional control, athletes involved in on-campus gang fights, football coach accused of abusing players (but it’s OK as long as he’s winning), and on and on and on ….

Of course, Lew won’t resign. That would be the honorable thing to do. Will KU muster the integrity to get rid of him?

    I hope Lew stays.

If it’s it discovered he knew about a lot of this, obviously he has to go. But I don’t think he did.

I think other universities will be found to be doing similar things.

I want Lew in charge at Kansas during the probable conference re-alignments. KK and others don’t, ’cause they know Lew will make sure Kansas is taken care of.

    BP must be stopped
Most colleges WISH they had a program that could have this type of scandal. Most schools can not even sell out MOST games.

All of the people involved here are short timers from Olkahoma, not KU. Just becasue it sayd 3 million, does not mean much, the actual number of tickets is not many….. it is like the cops saying STREET VALUE OF THE DRUGS WAS 14BILLIONS DOLLARS.

This is a non event, and the porblem will be fixed. Most Ku games are on TV, and if you never attend or do not donate, mind your own bussiness.

Besides when you consider that the worst disaster in the country’s history is being inflicted by BP, but yet you idots are overly worried about this?

    get a life dorks.

So let me get this straight, Nick. If Lew was unaware that employees were bilking the U out of millions of dollars then you’re OK with him staying. Would you say the same thing about the CEO of the bank where you have your money?

It is amazing the lengths some sports fans will go to keep their team on top (and this is true across the board … not aiming it just at KU). Do things like accountability, competence, principles, values, mean nothing anymore?

Nick, do you have your head in the sand often? FYI, Perkins never had much chance to land KU on their feet in the conference realignment and what little he did have just evaporated completely. If you think the Big 10 that prides itself on integrity (rightly or wrongly) will touch them with a 20-foot pole I have some of that beachfront property in AZ for you.

    Cliffy,

NONE of us truly know what Lew did or didn’t know, NOR what he SHOULD have known. Can you imagine how impossibly hard it must be keep your huge department clean in a business saturated in money and filled with people who want their team to win…at whatever cost?

Joe Castiglione, by all accounts a very good A.D. at Oklahoma, had issues with Sampson, and now things are looking bad with Capel and others in the dept. I don’t think it’s Castiglione’s fault. Should he be held responsible?

KU’s athletic deptartment’s bottom line since Lew’s been A.D., despite crooks making extra money off tickets, has grown astronomically. Facilities have been built, teams have improved, graduation rates are good…

Lack of Institutional control (including athletes having tests taken for them), Mark Mangino’s borderline handling of players, the football/basketball riff, and now the low-lifes who made hundreds of thousands off tickets……these are all not good things to happen to your university if you’re A.D.

But each case is different, and each case doesn’t nescessarily mean Lew wasn’t doing his job.

The lack of insitutional control goes back to the Bohl/Williams era. If a small handful of Mangino players were cheating on tests, is it expected that Lew should of known that?

Mark Mangino, I believe, was targeted by Lew a few years ago and Lew was waiting for the right time (like last place in the Big 12) to make the case to get rid of Mangino.

The football/basketball scuffle, in my opinion, has ZERO to do with Lew.

Please tell me specifically what you KNOW Lew’s done that warrants him to be fired.

As far as any of this money being used to buy AAU players there is no proof of that we have always gotten better players than the other schools in the conference and actually lately we have missed out on a lot of the one and dones.

When proof of money to AAU coaches or players is found yeah that is big and bad. But as far as AAU corruption that effects all schools so unless your school is D2 I wouldn’t be to sure of your school being above it all.

    The Word
Word on the street is that during the press confrence 980 KMBZ host Darla Jaye wanted to talk about it on her show. Not for a long time but just an half an hour.

Herself and her producer talked to many of the 610 hosts about what is going on in KU. Word is that many of host couldn’t tell Jaye what is going on at KU. They didn’t have much information on it.

She tried but all of their host, Wright, Sheriff and even Fescoe knew little about the issue. After talking to Wright about the issue Jaye’s producer made a comment that maybe they should ask KK or someone at 810 to be on the show because, “They seem to be all over this issue. They seem to know what’s happing”

Let’s just say Jaye didn’t talk about it on her show.

How many players from the Pump & Run AAU team were funneled through to KU in order to keep this scheme going? How many players were paid with money from the sale of the tickets? Why did the Star sit on this for FOUR YEARS without publishing anything until right before the Yahoo report came out?

(Laughing at Dex.) KU has FAR more experience than MU or KSU in recent months.

Cliff I hate to say this but I’m afraid you are exhibiting signs of suffering from a severe case of SMS – Selective Memory Syndrome.

Commonly found in finger pointers and people who think their shit doesn’t stink, SMS often goes unnoticed until the afflicted points a finger at someone else in an attempt to laugh at their misfortune. Often affecting the cerebrum and the hippocampus in the brain, if symptoms are not treated immediately the disease may be irreversible. You should back away from your computer immediately and consult your physician.

However, before you do – I may be able to jog some memories for you – but you’re going to have to get very close to your computer screen to make absolutely sure this information makes its way past your optic nerve and into your brain.

Make sure your eyes are focused clearly. Are you ready?

Greg, you sound like the East Coast types you love to put down when you compare T.O. to these at KU. Can’t you put cynicism aside and consider that T.O. did what he thought was in L.P.’s best interest as a human being and not to win a championship? Nebraska was miles ahead of everyone in 1995 and didn’t need L.P. to run away with the title.

    ___

GH: T.O. definitely did what he thought was in LP’s best interest. His motivation for doing so can be debated. What cannot be debated is how Dr. Tom’s decision to save LP changed the image of Nebraska football forever. I remember having this discussion with three of my brothers while driving to a game in Lincoln while LP’s status was in limbo. I was the only Husker fan in the car who thought Ozzie needed to walk away from LP. But not even I knew at that time how devastating to the Huskers’ image LP would prove to be.

Nick, you sound like your talking your own book with regard to Lew Perkins status. KU’s AD looks like DMWalking to me. Saturated in money?….Raiiight.
Question is as with any business…is it sustainable?
When our banks went down we demanded more transparency…we in turn got the complete opposite…never before has our financial system been more opaque.
Looks like Lew is now going to have to open up the books to the donors. We all know there are a lot of unhappy LOYAL fans…who might just be hesitant to write a $5,000 check for upper corners and 3rd tier parking + Football.
Hi I’m Lew Perkins with KS Athletics and I’m here to help you…….good luck with that.
