One way or another, the Big 12 is all done. The only question is where all the teams land. I’ll say this…KU, KSU, ISU, and Baylor looked to be screwed. The only one of those four with even a SHOT at getting picked up is KU, and they’d better thank their basketballs for that slim chance.

810s website is still worthless to me. Have not been able to stream for almost two months now. I’ve emailed them and told them I’d have to listen to the wannabe gansta Wright, but of course I haven’t received a response.

Both 810 and 610’s sites are pretty worthless. In fact, I can’t name a single media outlet in this town that takes its web presence seriously. Most of them slap up a Twitter widget on their home page and all of a sudden think they’re the sh*t.

Greg … I’m old enough to remember both Liz Taylor AND Maxwell Smart.
Tucker’s sentence about Liz Taylor shows how out of touch he is. Does he still use a manual typewriter and have a press pass stuck in his hat band?
I think Wright did let those early numbers go to his head. He’s always been obnoxious but he’s intolerable now.
Wouldn’t it be something if MU, KU and KSU all wound up in different conferences?

More evidence of how useless Nick Wright is. I am as big an MLB and NBA fan as the next guy, but covering those stories instead of a potential Big 12 implosion that would have a long-lasting impact on the three local schools AND Kansas City is every bit as stupid as wasting my time with the Racin’ Boys.

The BIG XII is a lot like SNL. Still around, not nearly as good or relevant as it was at the start and not worth two scoops of hot goat shit today. KU, KSU, Iowa State and Baylor might as well see if Brad and Angie wanna adopt them. Who cares about the Kansas demo? Hell, there are more sewer rats in NYC then there are people in Kansas.
Nick Wright is dead to me. He’s starting to make KK look like a young Keith Jackson. Keep the Astro-Glide and Bounty handy Nick.

It is going to be glorious when Missouri gets passed over. The best analysis right now has them being left out.
Eric
Keep wishing Stevo. It’s all about the tv sets, and Missouri has them.

As A KU fan, I feel sick right now. I have a feeling that KU will be left behind as these moves appear legitimate. College sports in KC will be changed permanently.
Wright dropped the ball on not discussing this. He wants to be Jim Rome Jr, he should concentrate on being Nick Wright. He has good points to make.
I can’t wait to hear how KK discusses this. He will no doubt be whining about K-State getting left out in the cold, when he should be thanking KU for not cutting the chains loose and leaving them. Is it Chiefs season yet? The KC Sports Market continues on the downward path to loserville.

Best analysis? Is there really a best analysis at this point?

I never have a problem with 610 OR 810’s live streaming. Go figure.

Stevo = whiney little bitch. You better be concerned about your own school instead of wishing bad things for others. You have plenty to worry about.
“Best analysis” means “Stevo’s wishful thinking.”

Seems to me the Brits have an alternative approach to conference alignment.
As I recall, the top half of teams (based on win-loss records) are the “A” conference and last year’s losers are assigned to the “B” conference.
Come playoff time, the top team from the “B” conference gets in and the lowest ranking team gets bumped to the “B.”
Over the past few years Nebraska would’ve been bumped and maybe the KU Orange Bowl team might have made it to the championship against the big guys.
Geography is irrelevant in today’s media.
Cornhusker telecasts are gonna draw in Omaha even against Baylor.
Should Baylor succeed
(run up a hill and wait for Jesus), the quality of the match-up will attract viewers to the “B” championship. And it’s all about television anyway.DonkeyPunch

For fairness sake, it should be noted that 610 carried Beebe’s press conference from the start.
Not sure when 810 finally joined in. Soren was talking Royals baseball when I checked about 10 minutes into Beebe’s presser.
Beebe may be a doofus, but I totally agree with him that the Big 12 is perfect as is with all the teams in regional proximity. Ilike the makeup of it right now. Seems asinine to me that Texas and Oklahoma schools would be in the same conference as schools in California and Oregon.
I still think there’s a decent chance the Big 12 stays together as is. Maybe Beebe is some sort of extreme, bizarro optimist, but he sounded pretty confident that many or all Big 12 teams would realize staying put could be a good thing in the big picture.
Gavin
I’m with Nick. I know it could be wishful thinking, but I really think UT would have a hard time not being the swinging dick in the conference. And while they’d be huge, and hugely important, to either the Pac-10 or the Big Ten, they would not have the authority to essentially tell every other member to grab ankle and wait for it like they do now. If you start by assuming that UT can make a ton of money with a Texas sports network (becuase there is no way any other other Big XII schools would deny that to UT right now), then the appeal of a move lessens. If UT stays in the Big XII, then the league will survive, even if Mizzou and Nebraska leave (okay, jojo, WHEN they leave). The Big XII could even survive if MU, NU and Colorado all split. They might have to try and make a fit with Utah and Memphis or BYU or something, but Texas is the key to the Big XII. And I think there is a decent chance they will get everything they want from a Big XII that is desperate to have places for ISU, KSU, KU, etc.
The thing is, if UT decides to stay, Mizzou and Nebraska had better hope that jojo is correct and that the Big 10 wants them. Because something tells me that if MU doesn’t have a place to go when this reshuffling is all over, Texas might not be in a very generous mood.
Cliffy
“Texas might not be a generous mood” … what’s that mean? When have they ever been in a generous mood toward anyone?
Gavin
You’re right, Cliffy. They haven’t. But my thinking was that if Texas decided that they’d really like to have both the football championship and the basketball tournament every year for the next ten years, who is going to stop them. If the Big XII survives, I’d look for Texas to make as big a landgrab as they could for everything they want and can reasonably get their hands on. If the league were to decide that they wanted to form their own TV network, I wouldn’t be surprised if Texas said “you guys go ahead and do whatever you want, but we’re going to form our own competing Texas network.” Point is, no matter what happens, I look for Texas to come out of this even stronger than they are right now.
Stevo
I don’t get it. Let them have their network and keep the money. Add Memphis and Louisville and the other 13 teams start their own network. Who cares? They’ll still be on in Texas and some Longhorn fans will still watch the Big 12 network. All they’d be able to put on is their non rev sports and maybe a vs. North Texas football game or two. Use their ability to start their own network as a little leverage for a more equal split on the big TV deal coming down the shoot in a few years.
jojo
MY expert analysis is this…
I’m sick of this crap. If they leave/stay/
go/get stuck it’s really irrelvant.
MU/KU/Kstate etc. will all survive.
If they end up in their own league they will
survive.
As I Have said since day 1…its all about
money.
THE NATION IS BROKE. THE STATES ARE BROKE
(kansas republicans and tea baggers approved
a 17% sales tax increase starting july 1…the
largest single tax increase in many many years..
yet noone is complaining or screaming)…
and the universities need cash.
But I studied this last night looking at how
much the schools might get from tv networks.
And its going to come from advertising.
And advertising dollars won’t fund all these
netwroks. Someone is fooling themselves to
think that all these advertisers (many of
which are now cutting back dramatically)
are going to have billions of extra dollars
to spend on these networks.
Ain’t gonna happen. I know!
But for mu…its a great opportunity to move
up the ladder. No offense to ku..but the mu
people can use this kto raise money…millions
of dollars coming into the university and if they
are going to survive (any university for that
matter) they have to have cash.
If it gets down to money…I look for the
major alumni billionaires to move in and
buy mu into the big 10.
This is about money. Not ego…not personal
vendettas…its money for survival.
And to be truthful…I was on the news sites
today and realized that theres a lot more
important life and death issues going on
now.
We’ve got the gulf and eastern seaboard in
danger…an economy that can’t get fully
situated…two wars taking kids lives and noone
giveing a shit…billions of dollars being spent
on a war…and the most important thing is
where mu is playing next year? Hardly.
Guys…its great disucssing this football and having
fun…but we as a nation are in trouble…big trouble and
the future of this nation is really being
shaken to it’s core.

“Our conference needs Dirty Harry and we got Maxwell Smart.”
Kudos on that most excellent line, Greg. As for ’60s sex goddesses, Barbara Eden was choice — but Raquel Welch was the bombshell.
Look, is this a surprise to anybody? I spent enough time covering Texas sports and politics to know the Big 8 schools were doomed as soon as they let in the Texans. They were going to dominate with both their money and their will, and the Big 8 members then — as now — were not cohesive enough to resist. Missouri may be granted the first legitimate opportunity to jump to a superior conference for its interests, and while I will miss the tradition of the Big 8 rivalries, I’m warming to the idea of the Tigers in the Big 10. Texas treats the rest of the Big 12 like shitbirds, and believes it is absolutely right in doing so — and knows it can get away with it with a puppet Commissioner — so its calling the shots here. No wonder Beebe sounded like a babbling boob today; DeLoss Dodds hasn’t told him what the Teasips want to do yet.
Missouri and Nebraska would be smart to get out of the Big 12 now, if a better alternate presents itself in the form of a Big 10 invitation. The consensus is KU may land on its feet due to basketball, although this is primarily a football issue, but K-State will likely be SOL — either a further subservience to UT in the Big XII-minus or in a second-tier (far less lucrative) non-BCS conference (Missouri Valley anyone?).
I’m not familiar enough with Big 10 politics to predict what will happen on that end. I suspect the push is for Notre Dame, and bringing in MU, NU and maybe a couple of Eastern schools that can tap into the N.Y.C. market, for a 16-team superconference covering the market-densest NE quadrant of the U.S. But that’s merely applying logic to the situation, which may be precisely the wrong way to think.

Great post Jojo

Best analysis= in my opinion, the best analysis I’ve read: thoughtful, thorough analysis by a guy with no dog in the fight. He may be right or wrong but it is much more thought out with stats and justification for every possible scenario. You wouldn’t be interested Cliffy.

Cliffy
I read it, Stevo. All of it.
Good Lord, you think Frank the Tank is the best analysis you’ve seen? His conclusion is Texas. Wow … groundbreaking!! … Texas. Who wouldn’t want Texs? Jeez. He really went out on a limb.
It’s like you have stopped hoping for good things for KU and are now just concentrating on scenarios that will be be bad for MU.
Pathetic.
Stevo
Go back and look at his article about how the big 10 can choose to expand…the super death star expansion scenario. He looks at every possible scenario. Don’t knock the guy because he just has a blog. He doesn’t base his analysis off leaked emails, confidential sources, or internet rumor. He presents the facts and the most likely outcomes. Don’t knock it just because a KU fan posted the link. I think you probably just read his latest post…that’s the story on my link but several months ago he wrote a brilliant entry about ALL the scenarios. Much of it included Missouri.
If I was a Missouri fan I’d be happy that I was getting interest, but I’m not. I don’t blame your school one bit for wanting out of this bullshit bow-to-Texas conference. I wish KU was sandwiched in between Kansas City and St. Louis so we could maybe go. Believe me, I’m worried about my favorite school…and to an extent about KSU as well. There’s a real chance they get screwed because not enough people live in this bible-beating, Brownback-electing state that would rather teach its kids that Adam and Eve rode on dinosaurs than educate future engineers or doctors. Hmm, wonder why they’re not moving here in droves? You can interpret my wishes that Missouri doesn’t get an invite any way you like…but the truth is I hope they don’t because it would make a conference containing KU and Mizzou that much stronger if the South bolts. Homer all you want but right now Missouri doesn’t appear to be in as good of a position as they were a month ago. If this was a horse farm and the Big 10 was a stud, Missouri is prancing around right now trying get some action. Problem for you is that farm is getting more crowded as the weeks tick by with new horses like Virginia(considered by many to be one of the top public unis in the country), Maryland(big TV markets) and Texas(duh).
Too bad the KU horse is outside the fence with Lew in the saddle headed toward a cliff:)
Cliffy
Yes … good post JoJo.
MoCrash … appreciate your thoughts. I think you are a bit full of youself sometimes, but I respect your take. I think you know what you’re talking about. I, too, will miss the old Big 8 rivalries but life moves on.
MoCrash
I can understand how you would take my self-references that way. Their purpose, though, isn’t self-aggrandizement, but rather to relate what I know or think based on personal experience. When I’m shooting from the hip, I’ll admit it, but there are some areas where my take is informed from hands-on experience.
Of course, I think most of us who post opinions on blog threads harbor at least a small degree of conceit, insofar as we believe our views should matter. For me, it’s an opportunity to editorialize to an extent which is beyond both the strictures and the current beat of my daily reporting.
rick
Sorry, Greg but I agree with Nick. All this big 12 talk is nonsense. It’s like debating who Liz Taylor’s next husband will be. No really knows nothing. So lets just spend four hours each day speculating on the nothing we know and bring in some experts who have sources that know nothing either.
I say let’s talk NBA, Is Ken Griffey the last non steroid superstar, and if we want to talk big 12…let’s talk about the big 12 and the NBA draft.
All the rest is blah blah blah…..until it happens its nothing. I know let’s speculate when the next oil spill is going to come and where…..I mean its all nonsense. The sky is falling the sky is falling.
If the big 12 falls KU will just become like Notre Dame. A super college powerhouse that is independent. K-state will become UMKC.
