Hail to the chief!
Future Hall of Fame head coach Bill Self has navigated Kansas back to No. 2 in the nation and is on the verge of a number 12, Big 12 title. It was just a few weeks ago that KU lost three out of five games. Talk was this would be the year Kansas didn’t win the Big 12, that it would go to Oklahoma.
Nope, KU found its energy and new hot stars like Devonte Graham to fire them up to beat OU, West Virginia and now Oklahoma State last night in a runaway at Allen Field House 94-67.
KU is looking to be a No. 1 seed in the big dance next month.
If KU and OU win out – and they should – both will be No. 1’s. In fact the Big 12 has six teams in the top 25. Nice.
KU fans were worried that there was no “big star” or shooter that could take over games and lead KU back to its 12th title and a top seed in March. That’s all changed today. Perry Ellis, Wayne Seldon, Frank Mason and Graham are leading the way back to glory. In fact, this may be Self’s first season since his Final Four loss to Kentucky, to get back to the finals.
Kansas now seems nearly unbeatable.
The triple overtime win over Oklahoma was the game of year.
However with OU at home a couple games back it seemed a tall task to win on the road to one of the top teams in the nation. KU pulled it off and hasn’t looked back.
By the way with West Virginia losing KU is in first place now alone.
It takes talent and a bit of luck to win it all in March.
This just might be Self’s shot at a second national championship. With 12 straight titles, Self is looking for number 13 next year to tie legendary UCLA coach John Wooden next year for that incredible record.
All signs point to chances are it will happen.
What a year of area sports in Kansas City. The Royals championship, Chiefs playoff game win and KU looking to be a No 1 seed in the Big Dance in March.
Never happened in one season before. Enjoy it.

I know Frank, I said the Royals at seasons end were unbeatable. That nobody could beat them in a series. Nobody. I was right and Harley is whack so there you go. I did not say that about the Chiefs, just they were our best team since Marty in 97/98. Since then we stunk it up. We did. A fact. Harley doesn’t get that either. on and on. He doesn’t yet understand a tease bet…one of THE MOST popular sports bets in Vegas there is, which tells me Harley has never made a big bet in a Vegas casino sports book in his life.

West Virginia hasn’t lost. They play tonight. A win keeps them tied with KU atop the Big 12. IF they lose KU will be in first all alone.

KU will move to number one in the nation in a few days as long as they don’t lose their next game. Villanova Lost last night they were number one, now KU will be.
Congratulations to the Big 12 on becoming the new Big East. I have a feeling the Big 12 is on a similiar path to disintegration as well.

With four games left KU has wrapped yet another title…its win over KSate and West Virginia’s loss did that. Now KU has to win out to be number 1 in the nation and number 1 seed. I see Baylor as the biggest hurdle. What a great comeback year for Bill Self. He is something great as a coach. Fun guy to watch and hard not to like.
