I don’t care about either of them, but that photo up there makes it look like Flanny’s trying to break off a grumpy.

I like Flanagan too, but his former column in the Star was just an exercise in phoning it in every day. No real reporting and stories so small that they barely counted as stories. I mean, yeah, it’s great that the Royal wives are doing a food drive, but that’s the type of thing he ALWAYS wrote about. I don’t think it coincidence that he goes to his new interweb-based home and he starts doing stories that get noticed. He might have realized that he could remain employed but he had to stop phoning it in or maybe he wasn’t well-managed at the Star, but I like this one story a lot more than any fifteen of his columns at the Star.
And, Greg, if Kietzman ever tongue bathes you like this, it will mean you are dead and he wants to act magnanimous. “NO, Danny, NO! I always liked Greg Hall!! You know where you stand with Greg Hall. Do I always agree iwth him? No. Did he ever report me unfairly (which is to say accurately)? Yes, I suppose he did. but the man is dead, Danny. He’s dead! So I’m going to rise above what Greg Hall did to me and recognize what a sad day this is for Kansas City, Danny. You don’t have to like it, but that’s just the kind of person I am.” All of this will be said while KK is dancing ilke Snoopy at dinnertime, but you won’t see any of that.

Flanagan’s sports columns in the Star were completely innocuous. Maybe he deserves credit for crafting it to be as shallow a read as it was because to his credit I did read him regularly…but not because it was an informative read, because it was easy to glance over when I still had sleep gunk in my eyes while I downed my first morning cup of coffee each day.

I once emailed Flanagan and asked him whether it was journalistically ethical to use Whitlock’s Dr. BA Homer schtick in a column about Whitlock and he said that was a no-no. Shortly after that, Flanagan started in with his Off The Couch-esque Chiefs columns.
And I snickered aloud when KK was fluffing Flanny as one who doesn’t twist facts to generate a story. I guess Kev would know.

This is a teachable moment. If your kids ever come home and ask what a rimjob or analingus is let them read this post.
Maybe Flanny and KK are gunning for a show on the telly ala Sports Reporters.

When Flanagan first started his Star column he was hungry and it was a good read. It’s where we went to find out news about Z-Man or Renshaw or even KK. That’s all we had. He did get lazy and it showed. Then he got knocked the fuck out during 810’s first Turkey Bowl and was never the same

Jeff Flanagan, it was great to see his name and stories on the front of sports page this morning. It reminded me of how much fun his column was in the Star. I miss it, so do lots of readers. Jeff always had some fun information and often broke sports stories….too bad many of you guys don’t remember that…lets put it this way, sports in the Star was lots better with Jeff in it….
