I’m surprised someone who would recommend a side trip through Weston on the way home wouldn’t get off the beaten track a little bit in St. Joe itself. St. Joseph doesn’t end at the Belt Highway. There are a number of fine local restaurants without drive-through windows: Boudreaux’s, Galvin’s, Barbosa’s to name three.

GH: Kent, glad you’re here to add some local expertise to what I experienced in SJ. But the Belt is SJ’s calling card and it needs a serious makeover if the city expects vistors to venture deeper into town in search of its better assets.

Greg you seem to be pretty positive about your experience…should we question your credibility by saying it was a great experience or is it just if you have a deal with the chiefs and say it’s a good experience it’s not genuine….need clarification for your hypocrisy……

geg it’s Quik-Trip and u r right they have very friendly staff. Is the Ground Round still in St. Joe? The independenly owned (not the highway one) Arby’s sells TJ Cinnamon rolls that alone is worth the ride to St. Joe. Love the pecan sticky bun. Understand a certain blogger loves sticky buns also.

GH: I will fix that typo in a quik sec. The Ground Round is still there on Frederick. My new fave name is a place called the Old Hoof and Horn on 59 Hwy. Sounds like a place Norm and Cliffy may have frequented.

GH: Interesting stuff. Glad to know The Star thinks so highly of me. As I told Deadspin when they contacted me; I am very content to be on the side of this issue that I reside. The side where the truth lives. JW and The Star can gather all the lawyers they want, Whitlock knows the truth. Attempting to discredit me as a source is textbook stuff. I find it interesting The Star has not once contacted me to investigate my claim. If The Star and JW are all about printing the truth, let’s get it on.

There used to be a restaurant/bar north of town on the river road that had killer blackened catfish and a fine black currant tea. Went there on a date once, haven’t been to St. Joe much since (except driving through on the way to a football game), so I cannot recall its name. Maybe someone more familiar with the town can provide more up-to-date info.
