Haven’t you Hearned? Jason’s donned a polar bear outfit and now goes by “Nikita”.

Has anyone ever said that he won’t work for free until the NFL season? He’s surely bored with the Royals (ie not engaged this time of year anyway) and suppose he’s actually on leave as a $ compromise until football starts. McClatchey lowers thier budget, Jason takes the summer off. It has to be the deal or he’d already be canned.

Interesting theory, Media Junky. But if your scenario is correct (the leave having been worked out in advance), wouldn’t The Star have informed readers? They would have said something like, “Jason Whitlock is on leave until fall.” But, from the illogical way it has unfolded (he was gone for a few weeks, I believe, before the “on vacation” note went up), I think there was some sort of blow-up or falling-out. The Star then decided to plug in the “on vacation” note to assuage readers, and now the editors have painted themselves into that corner. Meanwhile, Whitlock is off slamming the viability of daily newspapers in The Big Lead blog…that is, biting the hand that is no longer feeding him.

Jason, I know you read this blog. So what do you have to say old pal. Jason I always liked you, and you gave me lots of radio time with you and Bill, so thank you. I hope whatever happens, it works out for you. You have truly been one of the most entertaining people in this town for the last decade and then some. Hope you come back.

Maybe they can get Kietzman to write a weekly column. They could call it ” Diary of a Douchebag “

Fitz…if The Star offers up “leave of absence” it serves neither party well. The Star looks cheap and going downhill while JW looks willing to be diminished. Jason never allows himself to look diminished.
I’m surprised this theory hasn’t surface sooner and I’ll bet it’s what he wanted. He gets the image (in his mind) that he doesn’t have to screw with boring summer sports coverage while he gets to travel and fuck off – then stroll back in on his own terms. All the while he probably makes about $200k for 8-9 months work. Great gig for a Midwest journalist.

I am proud of myself how I am learning to live without The Star. The Wall Street Journal is a must for current events. I get better up to the minute local news on KMBZ. Most neighborhoods have their own local news blogs. The KC scene, opinion leaders, and sports takes all belong to KC Con now.
And the Star, in spin form, is lying to us again. Whitlock is not on a traditional “vacation.” He is on some sort of leave.

Jason always wanted to be an athlete. Well, now we Kansas Citians can see him a bit like we see professional athletes in this town.
We enjoy their work while they’re here, but, eventually, their careers in KC end and we move on to the next guy…barely missing them.
Jason’s now a bit like Johnny Damon or Rich Gannon or Jared Allen or Tiny Archibald, it was nice to follow them for a finite time. Eventually we move on to David DeJesus, Matt Cassel or Tamba Ali. We’ll move on from them, too.
Bye Jason, honestly, we won’t miss you. Someone else will fill your shoes…well not fill, but you get the point.
Hearne Fan
Hearne,
The time has come. You need to gather up some investors, take what you know about newpapers and use all you connctions and all of the people the Star has fired and/or outsourced to India (fking atrocity and the final straw for me fk str Star!!!) and start the first GREAT AMERICAN PAPER/INTERNET NEWSPAPER!!!!
You can do it…you have the smarts and the people and the connections.
You are the man for the job Hearne.
Ads can be sold, the “paper” is not dead, this can work. WE NEED YOU.
Photoshopped Image Killer is a very useful application to get detailed information of a JPEG image as for whether it has been Photoshopped. PSKiller opens and decodes your JPEG file, then several image statistics features are analyzed to see whether some of them are abnormal compared to those of untouched images.
