It’s been a long time since the ghost of former Harry’s Bar & Tables founder Loy Edge haunted the Country Club Plaza. A very Long time.
Does “The Bar With No Name” ring any bells?
If not, you’ve still got a couple weeks to check out re:Verse on the Plaza at 618 Ward Parkway. The successor to Edge’s nameless joint is pretty much the spitting image of what Edge first conceived but could not sustain when his restaurant and bar empire collapsed lo those many years ago.
A fellow by the name of James Taylor, or J.T., picked up the peices and re:Verse has had a pretty good nine year fun run.
Until now.
For a yet-to-be-explained reason, the Plaza is sending re:Verse and J.T. packing. I would say, on his merry way but for a belated Facebook response from Taylor tersely telling me, “We are done with the Plaza. I need rumors that are not founded to stop.”
That re a seven day old request I sent Taylor for a comment on the rumor that re:Verse was considering moving into a space on the Plaza’s east side that formerly housed the nightclub Blonde and before that

Hearne this is not related to above but i want to know why especially after all the coverage of RAIN…no coverage of tonights concert with Don Fagan Michael McDonald, etc. Serious bro aren’t these guys more in our age range? Disappointed nothing on the site. this was right up your alley.

My alley is nowhere this alley. More like the Pixies and newer. But give me a few. Mark Edelman was supposed to be at Starlight reviewing. We’ll find out tomo if he waited out the rain, speaking of Rain.

They’d get lots more business at town center in leawood. Town Center is just like the plaza, except without brown people or panhandlers.

Well, Taylor’s La Bodega on Southwest Blvd is aleady opening in South Leawood taking the J.P. Wine Bar’s place. Not sure he wants to toss all his new eggs in a suburban basket, but it’s a thought.

Sad. reVerse was a great, local restaurant. The fact that it will be replaced by some chain is really sad.

It may not be a chain that replaces reVerse but it will be someone willing to pay for the prime location. This is all about MONEY. Highwoods wanted to up the rent and they said no.

Very sorry to hear they are closing. Oddly they have been the overall busiest place,bar,on the Plaza this past year. I live near the Plaza and Re-Verse is the hottest joint down there at night to see nice looking people. Period. And its twice as busy as last year. Maybe due to so mnay other bars closing. The best looking ladies over 25 are at Re-Verse. The small outdoor patio is a big help for them. I think their restaurant, which has good food, took them down. It never was a biggie and that means high overhead for them. So a small but busy bar could not overcome the losing restaurant biz. My guess.
The Plaza needs some night life. Without Re-Verse its close to nothing after ten PM. Not good.
