Jeff Chadhia, ESPN NFL reporter, 810 AM

Danan Hughes, 610 AM
GH: Hughes is pushing a point here that far too many of us have lost focus on. Kansas City is so bereft of success from the Chiefs and Royals we are now smitten with the mere fragrance of a possible playoff birth. I like Hughes’ refreshing candor is challenging his former franchise to do more than just be in the playoff hunt in December.

Nick Wright, Twitter
GH: Lot of Bowe talk of late after he went off against Denver (after the Chiefs were down 0-35) and then again against Arizona (or whatever that was that showed up at Arrowhead last Sunday). Bowe is still the guy who dropped two very easy catches that turned wins into losses this season. He is still the guy who one NFL player referred to as “the single biggest dumb ass” in the league. I hope Bowe is someone the Chiefs can count on in crunch time. I am not ready to make that leap.

“That ‘unbelievable individual effort’ Dan Patrick was taking about by (Danny) Woodhead, involved at least 4 downfield blocks by teammates. … i’m not dogging woodhead… i’m dogging the way the small white players are described by announcers. there’s a big difference. … For the record, I don’t dislike anyone because of their race. I dislike when people are treated or discussed differently because of race. … Guys, it’s ok that we’re amazed by white guys playing skill positions in NFL. Nate’s (lack of) pop culture knowledge
Yep, never ceases to amaze me either – he never seems to get a pop culture reference and it’s accentuated by Steven being such a a pop culture nut. And then Nate is smart enough to open himself up to ridicule, like last night when he asked via Twitter who "the guy in the Ford and Lee jeans commercials is?"
Before he had the kid, there was really no excuse but I guess he’s got a decent one now. I think Nate needs less jobs so he can concentrate more on being better as the host – all the Royals and KU work, plus the morning show, has go to be tough to handle.
Nate
I wonder if he knows Paul McCartney was in a band before Wings. Does he know that Paul was in Wings? Does he know who Paul is?
In agreement on True Grit …
Looks to be a classic. I heard Bukaty make that comment on my drive in yesterday morning and laughed out loud. I used to be a big movie buff and remember being really upset that John Wayne won Best Actor for True Grit back in ’69 because I felt strongly that either Jon Voight or Dustin Hoffman were more deserving for Midnight Cowboy. Glad now they gave it to The Duke. ¶
As a Mizzou fan I fully expect the game Saturday to be close …. it always is.¶
Local radio NFL analysis? More Chadhia and less Herm, please.
Greg You Are On Target
Greg you and I agree, its very, very uphill for our Chiefs. No real road wins, Seattle is strong at home, we are in MUST WIN game. For sure. Chargers are for real, would hate for our playoff hopes to be pinned to that road game with them. Not good. We need a two game seperation. Chargers likely will go 5-1 from here losing only to the Colts. Unless we get them or there is a big upset. Looks like it will take a 10-6 record to win the west, at worst 9-7.
Hoping our D is better and Cassel gets some weapons back Sunday with Dexter and Tony. Just Bowe will be hard. Running game is not what it was, lately.
Lets face it we had our chances, crappy Oakland, Denver, just neede a split. Nope. The Houston game was the turn. I hope it all goes well for the Chiefs, but doesn’t feel that way. Next year we will maybe have Fitzgerald, more D, and at least one new offensive lineman. Likely better days ahead.
P.S. I am sold on Cassel. He is the Franchise. He is better then top ten QB’s.
P.S.
Nobody that matters is picking KC anymore for playoffs. This morning on Mike and Mike ESPN they talked about Steelers at San Diego, as if Chargers had won the division already.
Bowe nose
The chances of the Chiefs winning the divison are about as good as Bowe being invited to join MENSA or JaMarcus Russell winning a Pulitzer Prize. If Nebraska loses to Colorado, look for Pelini to be on Cops and America’s Most Wanted on the same night. You know there’s not a lot of culture in KCK when the public library is located in a tattoo parlor.
The Dude abides….
Oh, if it’s a Coen flick with Jeff Bridges, I’m pushing my chips all-in. Outstanding.__________________
Nate doesn’t know about Mike Rowe? Hmm. I agree with the above. To host a show, you gotta be hip to current events and pop culture._______________
Also, Greg, it’s Mike Golic….although now he should change it to Goldberg. Greenberg and Goldberg in the Morning._________________________
As for Soren’t overarching defense of Cassel….I see where he’s coming from, but don’t forget for a second that we’re not that far removed from the Oakland game, where Cassell was sailing passes over receivers, struggled with reads and accuracy, and when it mattered most (in OT), checked down to Leonard Pope on 3rd and long, who caught a short pass more than three yards short of the sticks with two defenders in the clear, bearing down on him.
That still tells to me that Cassel isn’t as good as what Petro would like us to believe, but I do credit Cassel with displaying true moxie in how he performed against Denver (against a soft Denver defense, but still), and becoming the more assertive quarterback we have been hoping to see in the win over AZ. I hope the Oakland game, and subsequent Denver effort, can be the starting point that we can trace back to if/when Cassel grows into the QB we’ve wanted to see all along.
KK…..
I heard that Kietzman comment too. He was clamoring for Cassel FIVE years ago?????? Bullshit. To hell with sports. If KK can make a call on a quarterback, who had up to that point had never started in his life, to say he’s NFL-starter-worthy, he should bail on his show and start giving investment advice. KK’s clairvoyance could have spared a lot of people a lot of grief from the downturn over the last couple of years.
True Grit
I love sequels as much as anybody. I am all over the Gilligan’s Island remake movie,,,however, I’m boycotting it if they don’t put that chick from Mad Men in as Ginger and add a lesbo storyline with Maryann.
That being established…certain classic movies should NOT be re-made. You cannot remake Guns of Navarone, nor Rocky. The Outlaw Josie Wales will never be re-made. True Grit cannot and should not be remade.
That fuckin Uncle Dick take is killing me.

Wright sucks!
Not to start a war, but Wrights comments,
Re: Wright sucks!
John,
I think the common thread between what Rush said and the statement that Wright made about Woodhead…is that both comments were regarded as incredibly boneheaded. I believe that’s the reason why Greg pointed it out. Wright’s wild theory about Woodhead is just as idiotic as Rush’s rant on McNabb. It’s not political at all. People have a terrific ability in sports to spot bullshit when they see it. And Nick’s Danny Woodhead obsession qualifies as total bullshit.
Nate
Nate does seem to be rather clueless on many subjects. Not too long ago, he made some reference Anne Frank which indicated he believed she survived World War II.
Guess he never read the book or saw the movie.
