Friday, April 29th
Arthur Dodge and the Horsefeathers at the Replay in Lawrence
Arthur Dodge has been haunting Lawrence saloons for over a decade. Although these days, he and his Horsefeathers seem to only play a couple shows there per year. When they do come together it turns into a kind of Lawrence family reunion drink-off where "everyone’s a winner!"
Dodge’s sparse folk songs and gravelly voice are the perfect complement to a bourbon and soda in a dark, dirty bar. With a veteran line-up of seasoned local musicians backing him up on a song catalogue that numbers in the hundreds, these guys never disappoint. I never miss these guys when they play in the area, so take that for what it’s worth.
Saturday, April 30th
Jimmy Buffett at the Sprint Center in KC
Love him or hate him, there’s no denying the enormous persona that is Jimmy Buffett.
His shows are usually fairly long, often consisting of two sets and multiple encores that mix in all the hits as well as more obscure material. He brings his traveling beach party to the Sprint Center this weekend and, make no mistake, there will be more Hawaiian shirts, leis, and cougars than you can shake a stick at.
Monday, May 2nd
Manchester Orchestra at the Beaumont Club in KC
You probably know Manchester Orchestra best for their hit single that seemed to be everywhere last year, "I’ve Got Friends." The heavy pop song topped out at #8 on the Billboard charts and garnered the band some appearances on Letterman and Conan.
The band is releasing a new album entitled "Simple Math" in May this year, so you can expect to get a preview of some of the new material at the Beaumont show.
