The wearing of the green starts Sunday out south with the Martin City St. Patty’s Day Parade & Irishpalooza…
The festivities begin at 2pm at 135th and Wornall in Martin City.
It’s the 26th annual running of the always fun, family friendly event. Including a pet costume contest and 5K Whiskey Poker Run and this year’s festivities are gearing up for the biggest crowd yet.
Plus it’s generally star studded, and this Sunday will be no exception.
Former KY radio queen Tanna Guthrie is a judge, yours truly will emcee and Fox 4 reporter Kathy Quinn is the grand marshall.

How Irish is she? Faith and Begorrah, very. Kathy is married to the greenest man in the area, Ian Byrne, the lead vocalist of the Irish folk band known as The Elders. The band is in its busy season, with appearances at about every place you’d care to down a Guinness.
Not that things have always gone smiling eyes- lucky in Martin City.
One year, the boys in blue busted things up for no parade permit, to which parade goers responded by continuing to march and boo at the cop cars as they zig-zagged around the floats.
Then there was the time the parade crowd was serenaded by wailing tornado sirens, providing that little extra pep in each entry’s step and a flurry of activity among the horse brigade from Saddle N’ Sirloin.
And no one will forget the year Grand Marshall Larry Moore slept his way through at least A third of his parade route. Or was that me?
Hopefully, this weekend’s parade will snake it’s way through without incident, and as always, lead to the real pot of gold…..corn beef and cabbage at Jess and Jim’s Steakhouse.

This really isn’t a bad event to attend if one is looking for something to do outdoors.

Tanna was always great to us at Stanfords. She is a sweet, kind lady. Enjoyed working with her for nearly 20 years. We love you Tanna. Good luck on the event Randy. Randy did a great job for several years hosting the huge Red Fridays in Westport when the Chiefs mattered in the 90’s…all the best Randy.
