Hearne: Public Health Honcho Puppet Masters Restaurants, KC Mayor

The man behind KC’s ridiculous 10-10-10 plan…

Quinton Lucas, you say?

Noop, not according to Westport businessman and coronavirus survivor Bill Nigro.

That distinction goes to Kansas City public health director Rex Archer, Nigro says.

“Rex Archer is a total germaphobe,” says Nigro, who’s owned and/or overseen any number of restaurants and bars over the past three decades.  “He’s been a thorn in the side of the restaurant and bar business for years.

“And that’s who Quinton Lucas is listening to – he’s said it several times – that he listens to the health department. And Archer thinks if Quinton opens things up now he’s going to kill dozens of people. But Rex Archer has never owned a business and he doesn’t realize what this is doing to local businesses.”

Nigro says Archer’s behind the mayor’s recently announced, controversial 10-10-10 plan to reopen local businesses.

A plan that limits customers to 10 percent of building occupancy or 10 people, whichever is larger (including staffers) and requires them to record the names, contact information and times when the customers come in and out of the businesses for anyone who comes in for 10 minutes or more.

Rex Archer, paranoid germaphobe

But after getting hammered yesterday in national news for his “Nazi-like” policy, Lucas cancelled the final 10, requiring churches and businesses to get people’s names and contact information.

Florida, by comparison announced a far more livable 25 plan, with indoor restaurant seating pegged at 25 percent occupancy.

No way can KC restaurant’s survive at 10 percent, Nigro says.

“The restaurant association’s already met with Lucas about it, but the mayor’s not going go against Rex Archer.”

A dude so paranoid he’s refused to shake Nigro’s hand from their first meeting 15 years ago.

So, 20 years after 9/11 and we’re still dealing with all the airport security / TSA / gotta show ID to check into a hotel, etc loss of freedom.

What are the chances that the government uses this “crisis” to become even more Big Brother-like?

    • admin says:

      pretty good, is my guess

    • Jim a.k.a. BWH says:

What loss of freedom? You had the “right” to not get screened by the TSA? You had a “right” not to show your ID to check into a hotel? What “rights” were taken away from you post-911?

      • Phaedrus says:

I dunno what to say…apparently you don’t have a problem with a surveillance state. Enjoy your “freedom fries” and your “patriot” act.

I just hope in 20 yrs people don’t think it’s normal to have to sign in everywhere they go and/or to allow the govt to track your movements via your cellphone.

When you check into a hotel, you damn right you got to show your ID and have a valid credit card or debit card with your name on it ! No Walmart cash cards. We don’t want another goddamn Muhammed blowing us up or another drug deal in our guest rooms

Time for a major denomination to take states and cities like Kansas City to court for circumventing the 1st Amendment.

These bureaucrats believe they actually add something to the economy of the country — they don’t.

  4. Mike says:

Isn’t the K.C. mayor supposed to be just one vote on the city council anyhow? Where does he get this kind of authority?

    • admin says:

      Interesting question…

Guess if a tree falls in the forest and nobody complains, he c an get away with whatever people let him get away with

  5. Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

Gran Falloon opens at 3pm tomorrow. Hey Hearne, why don’t you head down there and report on what the crowds are like. I’m betting it’s a party. And how about the Wisconsin Supreme Courth bitch slapping their governor’s stay at home order down? Within hours, the bars were packed with revelers. It’s over folks. Time to end this draconian bullshit

  6. Rick says:

One obvious tactic is to get rid of the DJs at the bars with their cretinous music. Not only would it remove a staffer or two, freeing up space for actual customers, but also a lot of the people who go just for the music. And even with masks, we’ll adapt to chatting up to someone without all that noise in the way.
