Having raised the issue of what Kevin Kietzman thinks about the Chiefs in the upcoming Super Bowl, what he’s been up to since leaving WHB – the station he put on the map more than 20 years ago – and his future career plans, the controversial sports talker agreed to carefully answer a few questions.
Does he miss covering the Chiefs historic bid for the team’s first Super Bowl in 50 years?
“The answer is yes,” he says. “I’m disappointed I’m not covering the Super Bowl, but I’m not retired. I’m going to do something and I hope to be covering the Chiefs again soon.”
What Kietzman appears to be doing, sources say, is biding his time and sitting out a 12 month noncompete with WHB, while awaiting a deal for the station to buy out the its reportedly second largest shareholder.
Not that he hasn’t been keeping up with the Chiefs, somewhat obviously…
“I went to a couple of Chiefs games and I had a hard time walking through the concourse, there were so many people stopping and hugging me,” Kietzman says. “It’s been unbelievable, people have been nicer to me since I left than they were before I left WHB. I’m almost sore from all the hugs I’ve gotten.”
As for watching the big game Sunday, Kietzman plans to hang out at a neighborhood watch party in Lenexa and soak up the good times, the same as any Chiefs fan might.
Does he have a prediction?
“I do,” he says. “I like the Chiefs 37-20. I think they’ll play their best game of the year. I think this is going to be the first of many Super Bowls the Chiefs win with Patrick Mahomes. I think the big talk next week after they win will be, is this the beginning of a dynasty – like the Patriots and the Chicago Bulls. And that will be a legitimate question to ask.”

– he really did get hugged hard (sounds a head-on full body bruise)… still, good to hear from KK again… every Town needs a Crier
😎
KK will be watching the game with Ron Buck from Buck Roofing and Gary Josselyn from Josselyn Jewelers. Jim Cottey from Smoke and Fire will provide the spread. Golfer Jim Colbert is bringing Cookie Diet Cookies. Jack Harry will stop by at halftime to serve as Kev’s punching bag.
All in fun. I miss Kevin in the afternoons.
Wow, wonder if I could crash it!
Sounds like a great party.
Jack Harry walked into Dirty Sally’s once back in the 70’s. I was at the bar laughing my ass off, watching this guy dance with a chick in a dashiki. The guy could not dance. Really…, not at all. He danced like a white boy on black ice.
Jack thought it was funny, so did I.
The man’s name was Muhammad Ali.
I have no explanation.
Jack Harry is shorter than I am.
🙂
Hmmmm, not so sure that party attendee guest list was real or more tongue-in-cheek…
I think KK is coming back on the air after the Chiefs move from their current contract is up to their new station. KK will come back on the air and have a new show. It will be bigger than ever.
Interesting prediction…
The most interesting aspect of his situation at this point is – that while a whole lot of folks were quick to write him off here in KC – his self confidence and determination to return to the airwaves and con tin to cover the Chiefs.
Hopefully Kietzman is right about KC winning 37-20. It’s amazing that KC has won 3 out of the last 4 playoff games because before that they were a god awful 4-16 over a 46 year period!
My question is this: Are we KC fans in such a fantastic happy place that no matter what happens Super Bowl Sunday we’re going to celebrate we got Mahomes for many years to come?
In a way, the answer is yes…
However, it will likely be a bigger let down if the Chiefs lose.
Gotta give Kietzman credit he almost nailed the Chiefs score it ended up being 31-20 compared to his prediction of 37-20. Somebody give this man a job!
Do I hear a second?
Thanks for havin Kevin on I was an avid listener to his show and all of 810 …I wish he was still there …. But I’m to old to not get its business. I do miss his thoughts and if I meet him ….he won’t get a hug. .. But he will get a thank you …….those guys are like the therapist sometimes in your life . And as a kc guy I’ve needed many sessions . He helped me often without knowing it
