Hearne: The Longest Journey Begins With The First Step

Are we done mourning yet?

I’d like to think we are – I am (or so I think) – but Wild Bill Nigro is not.

Yesterday for example, he had to endure watching the Chiefs loss all by his lonesome.

Nigro’s “normal” Chiefs game routine used to go down with deceased wild man Craig Glazer on the phone as they scaled the heights then plunged to the depths of despair with every win and loss.

No mas.

You gotta remember as well that Nigro and I were on the receiving end of endless repeated daily phone calls from Boom Boom – I mean, the Glaze – which in no uncertain terms was our cross to bear. So going cold turkey has been an adjustment.

Ah, but life goes on, right?

And I’m way overdue in delivering on my promise to ramp up the frequency of my writing here now that I’ve returned to the Cowtown. Even though I’ve had a billion excuses about getting resituated and embarking upon a new leg of my automotive career at – wait for it – Aristocrat Motors.

That’s right, if you are interested in exploring the worlds of Mercedes Benz, Land Rover, Porsche, Jaguar, Maserati or Alfa Romeo, I’m your man.

I have to say that it’s a big adjustment from the wide world of marketing BMWs and VWs in the wilds of Topeka (where I did quite well, thank you).

So I’m still stretched pretty thin, but I think we can all agree it’s high time I rear my journalistic head and give you guys better reasons to bash me, other than that I’m lazy.

So I’ll let Craig more-or-less rest in peace unless something of note arises. Such as word from a family friend who spoke to Craig’s father Stan and said that he could give two hoots about his three sons having checked out while he’s still alive.

Pretty sad, right?

Then again, Stan trying to sell his son’s family kid pics for fifteen bucks at his estate sale was about as tacky as imaginable. By the way, the mother of Jack Glazer‘s longtime romantic interest bought Jack’s for her daughter who then left a snide comment on Stan’s wife’s Facebook page which was promptly deleted, followed by her unfriending.

That’s right, even in death the twisted family life of Kansas City’s Glazer family soldiers on.

Oh, and one more thing…

For those paying close attention, we’ve yet to hear from Boom Boom,  Harley or JoJo since Craig checked out.

Conspiracy theory, anyone?

Now let’s move on.

Some of us need more human ballast than others: CG’s demise affirms all that glisters is not necessarily golden. Final analysis – truth stranger than fiction, battle scars more conclusive verisimilitude… may Craig, Boom Boom, Harley and JoJo et al, R.I.P.

“they scaled the heights then plunged to the depths of despair with every win and loss.”

    – nod anyone of an accomplished age soars and plummets due the ever volatile lot a sports team any, my condolences. Nod Chiefs fans, more lows than highs too long a tenure, half century; if one was a junkie and football success the fix, cadavers piled high and empty syringes strewn Arrowhead, ad nauseam, ad infinitum.

Kerouac managed free himself obsession the local pros long ago, addiction replaced dispassion, devotion by mere habit. That it saved my sanity, certain. ‘I’s (‘dividuals’) having supplanted ‘teams’, showboats and Benjamin$ professionalism as integrity; all good things all come to an end.

Not to worry, CG: ‘this is our year’ 2018 as the previous 48 seasons same, ain’t missin’ nothin’: Mahomes continues to look more like a fava bean than Favre, and that D still stands for defenseless. Too, with but 32 games to play, the 40-90 ‘fraudroyals’ are hot on the heels the 1964 Athletics ‘all-time KC franchise worst’, 57-105. Kerouac believes the 2018 edition has what it takes lose at least 16 more. My guess: the blue boys finish about 52-110… the record theirs.

Eh, when does soccer season start.

    Already has?

    Oh.

Excellent concept, except for ONE thing you may not have considered…

I was never sure about Craig – although at one point a year or so back I did suspect him. However, unless unbeknownst to me I’m living some kind of Jekyll Hyde existence, I’m pretty sure it’s not me.

Wasn’t Craig married at one time? Any comment from her?

Her sister was at Craig’s funeral, but his ex moved away several years ago. Although knowing her, my guess is she was saddened by his passing
