Hearne: Quarantining Bill Nigro?

Being a good friend isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be…

Such seems to be the case with Westport businessman Bill Nigro.

From the get-go – for the past several months – Nigro has been Johnny-on-the-spot there for his seriously sick friend Craig Glazer. He helped Glazer move from his condo into a small, inexpensive Plaza apartment.

He visited Glazer frequently, taking him food and urging him to eat as he watched Craig’s weight plummet 45 pounds as he struggled with gall bladder issues and leukemia.

Nigro’s visited Craig at the hospital as much or more than anyone, and spent two hours last night cheering him up and communicating via Glazer squeezing Nigro’s hand once for yes, twice for no.

Yet after all that…

After helping stop a last minute campaign last week to move Glazer to another hospital Nigro was shut down from visiting when asked his name this morning.

Nigro had argued that with surgery scheduled for the next day, the current hospital’s having secured approval for a $100,000 miracle drug and heading into a weekend, the timing of the move could prove fatal.

Mums the word from Wild Bill…

However he did report that last night Glazer was looking better and alert enough to respond to a few basic yes-no questions.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, Glazer’s three pets that were trapped in his one bedroom apartment have been disposed off – two were given away – his faithful dog Junior was put to sleep.

And this just in, word from Nigro via another friend and source is that Glazer’s breathing tube is out – he’s off the ventilator – and talking.

Keep your finger’s crossed and stay tuned…

Thanks for the update, HC… fate or prayer, may it spare CG from that he resists and deliver him what he desires, whether ‘here’ or ‘there’. Say all earnestness too – R.I.P. Junior; ‘man’s best friend’ no misnomer, suspect CG’s four-legged pal wasn’t ‘just a dog’ to him, a sentiment many who’ve loved and lost their ‘friend(s)’ same, consent.

From Donne’s ode ‘No Man Is An Island’ – “Any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bells tolls; it tolls for thee.”

This is great news, I’d love for Craig to stick around for many more years to come. KC nor this website just wouldn’t be the same without him!

  3. chuck says:

Gosh, this is just terrible news.

I am seriously praying for Craig. It sounds stupid in this day and age, but prayers are such a comfort in situations like this, at least for me.

  4. Take a look at those two broads! Craig needs to keep living, since I’ve seen few individuals with quite the same propensity to have a hot little number or two at his side in virtually any picture that ever gets snapped of him.

Thanks for the update, and glad to hear Craig is doing better. I agree with Eric, I hope he’s around for a long time to come!

  6. Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

Leukemia? Jesus! I thought it was just pneumonia (no laughing matter either). We nursed a child thru leukemia. Wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

    Get well soon Glaze!

    He gone.

Craig was best friends with my ex Ron Davis who passed , Craig was a genuine friend I knew his brother Jack well and his dad and I had a booth at the same antique mall …. He also let the talented Dee Wallace use his venue for acting classes , everytime Dee Wallace was in town I took her master acting classes ! Craig , you gave many people a chance to shine and your kindness and generosity will be missed by those of us that really knew you !

Craig’s cat, is not disposed of. In fact we have been caring for him while he sits alone in Craig’s apartment wondering where everyone has gone. Monkey (the cat) needs a home now. Cocoa, is living with an elderly lady and is also not disposed. Please do not write incorrect things about Craig. He has a huge reputation and following here in Kansas City and it has always upset him when facts aren’t used. Respect him at this time for God’s sake Hearne. Im shocked you would be so cold at this time. His friends and family are hurting badly. What makes you believe now is the time to write your opinions of the entire situation as if you were committed to any of it? Ugh! Sickening. Shame on you!

Craig had nothing to do with it. I was told Junior was killed and the other two shopped out for homes.

Craig does have a huge reputation but writing accurate facts was never a part of that. I should know, I edited his writing for like eight years. And despite my efforts, readers here bore witness to his many inaccuracies.

That’s not so much a critique, just part of the charm of his larger than life approach to things
