Glazer: Nick Wright & Jason Whitlock On Fire

A tip of the hat to a pair of local media escapees who have finally made it big time…

Former 610 Sports host Nick Wright with First Things First on Fox with Hall of Famer Chris Carter. And former Star sports scribe Jason Whitlock with his hot show on Fox sports Speak For Yourself, co-starring Colin Cowherd. ..

Nick left KC and 610 a handful of years back for a bigger radio job and more money in Houston. Now he’s in New York so his payday is likely mid six figures. He’s very good on the show, calm, well-read and great opinions on all sports. He did a killer job on the NBA finals and LeBron.

Nick’s an up and coming national star for sure.

Jason has had a tough ride to the top, being fired from ESPN and having had some media run-ins here and there. But he seems to have overcome that and is now moving towards the top.

Too many people here put them down.

Hey they are our guys and doing great, so let’s give them a ton of credit and respect.

I used to work with both of them on radio here and always enjoyed the interviews. I was with Whitlock at both sports stations and also Bill Maas. Great guys.

I enjoy both shows and watch them often.

If you haven’t yet, check them out on Fox 1, usually ch. 75 cable…but it’s hot.

These two likely will become KC’s badge of honor in sports talk on tv over the coming years, so let’s get behind them.

    No.

  2. Boom Boom says:

    YES THEY DID.
with so many sports shows on now they find the perfect places for thier talent.
Nick is very good on his show….and jason has always had the talent he just needed
    the right slot for it.
wish them luck…..and with even more sports programming coming on their values
    will only go up.
    an nice article glazo !

  3. David Nelson says:

Any clue what their ratings look like? The new Get Up show on ESPN is really struggling – rare for them to get over 300k viewers. This after spending 15 million for on air talent.

      I’ll see if I can find out…

    • Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

MSESPN still hasn’t learned that their viewing audience by and large despise SJWs on their sports channels. Stick to sports, stay away from political activism. MSESPN has slit it’s own throat with that garbage. Between their social activism and cord cutters, they are getting hammered.

  4. Kerouac says:

    “Hey they are our guys”

    – Spade’s dissent in ‘Tommy Boy’: “Hold on there, Lee Harvey”.

‘Hip hip hooray’ for local spirit, community pride and yet another chorus of ‘this is our year!’ the usual suspect swiss chiefs. Behind the pen/mike however, the reality is Nick Wright belonged Syracuse airwaves before continuing Kaycee & scribe Jason Whitlock belonged Indiana, Charlotte and Ann Arbor his formative years, same.

Whitlock & Wright be ours in the same way a contortionist pleads Roger Maris ours since he once passed through these parts for a cup of coffee, before actually arriving ‘somewhere’… else (New York City? Get a rope – Picante!), historic in lieu histrionic, Big Apple rather cow town.

For the most part, KC is neither a start nor finish, moreso an outpost along the sports highway. As former KC Chiefs Talent Head Don Klosterman once said before himself being banished (rescued/set free) to Houston – “Kansas City isn’t so much Heaven or Hell, as Purgatory.”

We import (Joe Montana, Marcus Allen examples) and/or trick, beg, borrow & steal others come here… then, eventually, they leave us and themselves, unfulfilled an KC sense, most usually. They go elsewhere flourish (Warren Wells, Rich Gannon, Kevin Harlan too, imports variously (latter from Wisconsin.)

No Jesus of Bethlehem or even Nazareth ours: Len Dawson and Hank Stram did not start to matriculate themselves down the Championship field of sports here, either… ditto George Brett.

Who is our native son? Started, played, ended here? Not wanting to end an shut out: Tom Watson. The lyrics Marvin Lee Aday, with apologies to ‘Meat Loaf’ for a dash of Kerouac added: ‘one out of four ain’t (too) bad’, KC.

Of note is that ‘notable’ individuals who were born in and/or have lived in Kansas City (Missouri), according a Wikipedia list, are topped (alphabetically speaking at any), by a former KC Chiefs player, one that Kerouac remembers but most Chiefs fans will not, my guess): Bud Abell.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_from_Kansas_City,_Missouri

Though one can find successful, well-known folk who were born/came to be in KC, with rare exceptions (Walter Cronkite, Amy Alcott & some lesser known others too), they are not renowned for broadcasting excellence nor sports exploits, most part.

Probably this will change when Patrick ‘Pine’ Mahomes, our future Hall of Fame and multi-Superbowl winning QB (or so I’ve heard he will be, nod the local party line), is unleashed on the NFL. As it stands however, hype takes a back seat reality as always must, does.

‘Pine’ was less successful in his first year here than former Chiefs QB and future Hall of Famer Todd Blackledge was. When ‘Pine’ did play, was unable to throw a single td pass but did throw an interception, and was outplayed by an Broncos third-string QB in Denver, latter who threw 2 td passes & finished with a better QB rating vs ‘Pine’.

That no one is anointing the Denver QB an Hall of Famer, yet KC types promise ‘Pine’ will be, well, guess it’s a Kansas City thing… ‘this is our year’ part 2018 verse 49.’

Forgot local Paladin’s CG & HC: have mic/pen, will travel (if not far from home)

      ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      • CG says:

JASON AND NICK ARE TOP NAME GUYS NOW GOOD FOR THEM.

        • Kerouac says:

Whitlock & Wright aside, this, upon reflection: Happy Birthday to ‘Lenny the Cool’… Dawson turns 83 today.
Nod Champions Forever, 1970 seems so very long ago; quoth the red and gold Raven “Nevermore.”
