I’m going to be brief because I’m in much pain with this news…
My younger brother Jeff Glazer – my partner in Stanford’s for decades – has been on life support at Menorah hospital for the past several weeks. Jeff had some internal bleeding and I took him to the hospital for them to examine and heal him about four weeks back.
Jeff had been in the hospital a couple days when he couldn’t breath. He’d contracted a lung problem and they’d put him on a breathing unit (life support). To ease the pain, he was put on a lot of pain medicine and kept asleep. With tubes down his throat it was simply a horror to see. Though in critical shape the doctors felt good about his surviving and eventually returning to normal.
Sadly with all of our family feeling things might work out, I got the news today that he had contracted brain cancer and it was not something they could fix. In fact, he’s too weak to undergo an operation without being off life support.
His sons are coming in today and we will likely have to take him off everything so he won’t be in pain and he will then pass. There seems no hope.
My brother and I had many great years in Westport, Overland Park and Legends.
Jeff was the general manager and ramrod of the company.
He got way too little credit for our many decades of success.
We both opened Stanford’s with our father Stan in Wesptort in 1975.
Jeff ran the club for years when I moved to LA in 1982.
We both took over comedy and Stanfords in 1990 and our father left the business shortly thereafter.
We had lots of ups and downs over the years and of course had many brotherly arguments.
Jeff raised two sons, Jake and Alex both in college and honors students – both with a 4.0 grade average from high school and now college.
Jake, the oldest, will attend medical school this coming year.
Jeff’s sons were student athletes and Jeff attended all their games and events in high school and college. Jake was a state tennis champ and Alex a point guard at SME.
I am in shock over all this and of course can’t even think straight.
I lost my little brother, Jack in 2011 when he was killed in an auto wreck near work.
I just don’t have the words.
No visitors are allowed, so just your kind thoughts and prayers are appreciated.
I love my brother and I am in deep pain.
Jeff loved Stanford’s and Kansas City. I am just in shock.
Thank you for your interest and good wishes.
I’m sorry, Craig. That’s a tough deal. I lost my dad after a 7 year battle with a terminal illness. I lost my mom, 5 years ago, much more similar to your brothers situation. A stroke out of no where, good health, no warning…a couple days after we removed life support. Seven year warning vs near instant loss; I’m not sure it changes the grieving you feel at the moment it hits you, regardless. You’re in my thoughts.
So sorry to learn the news, Craig. You are in the thoughts and prayers of many.
So sorry. Thoughts and prayers for you and his family.
Prayers to you and your family, Craig. This is tragic news.
Thoughts, prayers and best wishes for your family in these difficult days.
My condolences to you and your family. Just terrible news.
