Glazer: Scribe Saddles Up for NFL Playoffs

The playoffs are down to eight teams in the race for the Super Bowl

And yes, our Kansas City Chiefs are one of the eight. Most would say that makes this season a big success. But I don’t think so, not for KC.

The Chiefs have not been in a HUGE game since Joe Montana took them to the AFC title game in 1994 and we lost to the Bills. Our last Super Bowl was with Hank Stram and Len Dawson in 1970 – half a century ago.

That’s practically a lifetime.

So Andy Reid and the Chiefs need to defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday to be looked at as once again, an elite, post season playoff caliber unit. Better than just good.

Because right now Reid is “Marty light.”

Both are or were playoff head coaches but no cigars, no Super Bowl rings.

In Kansas City the honor of best head football coach still goes to Hank Stram.

Reid will need a win Sunday here and one in New England next week to get into that conversation of who’s best. Or is he even better than Marty?

All the home teams are favored.

KC is the least favored so far in this year’s playoffs, with an 1 1/2 point advantage over the hot Steelers. With the Steelers smashing KC in Pittsburgh earlier in the season, and their 7 game win streak – and the hot 3 Bs, including their quarterback, Big Ben Roethlisberger – they  have a scary offense.

The Chiefs are the mystery team of the elite. Most, media outside KC thinks they can win a close game, so do I, but will they? I’d have to take THE Steelers and THE points in  a tease.

Still I hope KC wins, our fans deserve some glory.

Houston at the Patriots in New England. Should be a cakewalk for Tom Brady and his No. 1 seeded Pats. They’re a huge 15 to 16 point favorite. The Texans have a solid defense, and beat KC early this year however they have little offense and their quarterback is average at best. Tom Brady ain’t average.

I like Patriots in a walk over.

The other game today is Seattle at Atlanta.

The Falcons should win, but I’d take Seahawks and lots of points in a tease. Like our Chiefs the Falcons have little success in the playoffs, and Seattle has two Super Bowl appearances over the last few years with Russell Wilson.

Finally the game the nation may be most excited about: Dallas vs. Green Bay.

Two storied programs with the new breed, Dallas against the league’s top quarterback, Aaron Rodgers. Dallas is the better overall team, but Aaron, if hot, is more than dangerous. I like the Packers and lots of points, but Dallas should win at home.

PLAYOFF PICKS

SEATTLE PLUS 11 IN A TEASE OVER ATLANTA WITH NEW ENGLAND -9 1/2 OVER HOUSTON.

STEELERS + 7 1/2 OVER KC IN A TEASE WITH GREEN BAY + 11 OVER DALLAS.

GO CHIEFS, WIN IT BOYS!

Cannot be in same convo with Stram unless you win at least one.

    Which is worse?

    1. KC losing to the Steelers tonight at Arrowhead?
    2. KC getting manhandled at N.E. next week?

  3. Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

Another year, another playoff gag job by the Queefs.

  4. CG says:

The best team won…Chiefs lucky to be in it at the end, Steelers ran all over us and we had almost no offense. Close game, but we didn’t play well enough to win it.

    • E.H. says:

You are correct Craig, the Chiefs could have won but they weren’t the best team on the field tonight and if we did win we’d get destroyed at New England next week anyway.

Still, we can see the Chiefs are much better than they were when they got blown out at Pittsburgh a few months ago. Hopefully we can build on this instead of collapse like we did under Shottenheimer. I think Reid is a better coach than Marty(plus he probably won’t mess around with any waitresses while he’s here..fingers crossed).

So, the best four teams are in the Title games..which is the way it should be. Note they all have GREAT QB’s with TEN SUPERBOWL appearances and SEVEN SUPERBOWL WINS between them.

Andy Reid/Alex Smith are 43-21 in the 3 1/2 years they’ve been in KC. Very impressive. It’s going to take a herculean effort to get to the big dance, something like a Terrell Owens and a couple more play-makers on defense. I give the Chiefs an over B+ under the Andy/Alex era, the only inexcusable offense was when they lost the last 4 of 6 games in 2014 to miss the playoffs.

      Go Chiefs 2017!

      • Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

As long as Alex Smith is qb, the Chiefs have hit their ceiling.

        • E.H. says:

Maybe, but Brady’s/Brees’s/Big Ben’s/Rogers’s/Manning’s don’t grow on trees.

Therein lies our(and 25 other teams) problem.

Still, it looked like our WR’s dropped a lot of passes that were catchable last night. Maclin looked like a scrub on that one perfect pass, there were many more instances.

Alex can’t just rely on Kelce.

Pittsburgh’s defense was tough tonight, we needed one more BIG weapon for sure.

My call-out to Andy Reid. You’ve got a great team, don’t feel sorry for yourself. Cut down on the snacks and come back next year with fervor and be more aggressive on the play-calling.

          I’m serious about the snacks.

      • CG says:

For the most part you are right, the Chiefs are a good team, B+ sounds right…not A….til then, we are where we are.

        • Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

Where was Tyweak Hill? I’ll tell you where…getting his ass kicked all over the field by the Pittsburgh defense and special teams. He did NOTHING. ZERO. ZIP. NADA. Good defensive coordinators and a decent defense will be able to take a player out of the game. A player like Hill can be eliminated in special teams too. Just don’t kick it to him. Simple as that. So all that talent, speed, and football IQ did him no good whatsoever.

  5. Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

Oh and Kelce is a major league jackass. Not only did he drop balls all over the place, but he also gets a dumb penalty, then curses out the referees in his post game interview. You stay classy Kelce. Maybe next time, your “reality” show can be you searching the earth for a clue.

  6. CG says:

Oh I forgot we picked 3 of 4 games sad to have to pick against KC but way it is…Seattle was wrong rest werer right…1 and 1 with the bets on the teases..
