Lefsetz: Attacking Trump

screen-shot-2016-12-05-at-2-39-31-pmIt didn’t work then and it won’t work now…

Makes me want to give up my membership in the card-carrying elite – the educated members of our society who can hold two opposing thoughts in their brain at the same time who just can’t fathom that Trump won and want to keep focusing on his inadequacies.

Just because you worked hard to get where you are that does not mean the less fortunate are ignorant people who should pay fealty to you. You rail against the corporations who whipsaw this country without acknowledging that they depend upon the purchases of the rank and file, so why do you have no sympathy for the service workers who grease the skids of your life, the barista, the waitress, the street sweeper, the gardener, the nanny?

The list goes on and on of people who can no longer make it here.

And yet you keep talking about your feelings. The microaggressions, the rights of African-Americans, women and every oppressed minority extant.

Enough with the feelings, IT’S MONEY THAT PEOPLE WANT!

Sure, the trauma your people experienced in the old country, the burden of the color of their skin, those are real problems that need to be addressed, but not now.

Trump won by appealing to those who felt screwed by the present administration.

Oh, that’s right. Obama couldn’t do much because of an intractable Republican Congress.

That’s true! But that fact does not help the disadvantaged.

When is the left wing gonna speak to the Trump voters instead of deriding them?

Try criticizing your spouse, telling him or her they’re clueless, let me know how that works out, when he or she comes around to your way of thinking.

The left wing disconnected from its traditional base, all caught up in the successes it earned, and now that base has given it the middle finger. And what do the entitled and the powerful do? Cry all about it, as if they’ve got no powers of reasoning, never mind powers of cash and relationships.

Let’s start with the news media making fun of Trump tweeting.

First of all, I’ll agree with the Donald that SNL hasn’t been funny for years. Ever hear of a punch line? But reporting on his thin skin is not gonna bring his acolytes to your side, no way.

And re the Carrier debacle, wherein Indiana gave financial incentives to save some jobs… Do you really think gotcha is gonna grab the right wing right now, when they didn’t care that Trump grabbed so much and was revealed to do so during the campaign?

Business as usual is not going to solve our problems.

And you can start with the media.

Scolding Trump and wagging its finger over his appointments. They’re no better than the Republicans who never proffered an alternative to Obamacare. Don’t like what’s going on, work to change it!

But the left won’t do this, no way, it’s too entrenched in its lifestyle.

While the Republicans started the Federalist Society, to move jurisprudence to the right, supported gun rights and decided to focus on the states to restrict abortion…the Democrats were asleep at the wheel, saying most of the public was with them.

I agree with that, but it’s IRRELEVANT!

Who cares if Hillary won the popular vote, by the rules that are written Trump was victorious. What’s next, challenging the outcome of a football game, claiming that in certain burgs you get five downs?

Then again, that’s the left wing for you, believing it can bend the rules. Scratch a rich person and you’ll find someone working the edges, while simultaneously boasting how honest and ethical they are.

screen-shot-2016-12-05-at-2-43-51-pmPeople need jobs. And in the future more are going to disappear. Where is the left wing plan?

It’s not only minimum wages, although that’s a good start. It’s also the fact that technology is eliminating so many roles. But the bleeding heart liberals want to get rid of trade agreements and bring manufacturing back to America. First and foremost, turns out the public doesn’t care about TPP, more people are for it. But they do care about working.

Sanders said the game was rigged and it is, but not in the way he said it was, nor in the way Trump thinks either. But at least they both spoke the truth, as opposed to Hillary who spoke to Goldman Sachs.

Dishonesty… not a feature of the poor.

The poor are honest and compassionate. They can’t cheat on their taxes because they don’t get to itemize deductions. The poor are more charitable than the rich, you can look it up. But the left wing keeps looking down on working people, or people wanting to work for a living using their hands.

What did Depeche Mode say? People are people?

Well, somehow the left has decided everybody who does not agree with them is not a person, rather a blob of ignorant protoplasm.

Makes me want to throw in with the disadvantaged, they may not be educated, but they’ve got feelings, and you don’t need to go to Harvard to become wise. I’ll argue you’ll learn more going to the school of hard knocks, as opposed to spending daddy’s money so you can get a job at the bank.

It’s been going on for 35 years, ever since the election of Ronald Reagan.

The left wing Baby Boomers have been decoupled from the love your brother ethos of the 1960s and have become all about self-satisfied greed. Just because you pulled yourself up by your bootstraps doesn’t mean everybody else can too. Ever see how the elites treat workers? Just board a plane, this entitled mass is hatable, no wonder the service people reacted.

The Democrats have to be a party of ideas. And should be less about inclusiveness than hard core solutions.

Hillary thought she had Latinos, women and blacks and she could not lose.

The New York Times said her odds were greater than 80 per cent. The Republican party was supposedly in shreds, with no future, but we woke up to find the Republicans controlling everything.

And we can’t wait for them to screw up, and they will. However in the meantime they’re gonna appoint Supreme Court justices and we’ll have the usual suspects in Congress, labeled as irrelevant hacks by the right, making no progress at all.

We need more leaders. People willing to speak the truth. People who have priorities. Who know that food on the table is more important than any hurt feelings. That compassion far outstrips derision. That solutions are better than pointing fingers. That when you lose the game you don’t continue to keep playing it the same way, you shake it up.

Like I said, for 18 months the left wing and the media played a game of Gotcha! with Donald Trump.

But he steamrolled everybody. First the right wing clowns, then Hillary, the left wing hope. And he did it not by being politically correct, by kissing the ring of the movers and shakers, but by speaking to the disadvantaged, the left behind, people who are being ignored by the other side as they keep complaining about who’s in the cabinet and who’s calling who, all protocol.

Rock and roll was based on breaking protocol.

And then punk stood up to classic rock. But in politics all we’ve got is the usual suspects doing the same damn thing.

Hillary Clinton was Freddie Garrity, insisting that you dream of a better of America. When the truth is dreams’ll get you nowhere. And your word is your bond, and Hillary kept flip-flopping.

But Hillary’s in the rearview mirror. Good riddance. She lost. Next.

Now who else has to be put out to pasture?

A left wing intelligentsia which believes since it beat the odds in America everybody else can too?

A media that plays to these same types, as it not only cozies up to them for quotes but sells wine and conferences to make ends meet at the same time begging for financial support?

And at the ground level, the reporters getting the story…

Turns out some right wing agitators at Breitbart were more in touch with the pulse of America than all the Northwestern and Columbia journalists with their notepads and laptops.

Because sometimes the story is hiding in plain sight.

And sometimes the game changes.

And the game we’re playing now is one of emotion, not fact.

Hell, the entertainment business specializes in this, knowing it’s all about perception.

And the perception is the Democrats are so worried about offending anybody that they ended up standing for nothing.

And the press is so busy trying to be at arm’s length and fair that it ignores the truth.

And I’m stuck in the middle with you wondering what happened to this country.

  1. Jim a.k.a. BWH says:

Lefty, I think it’s difficult to prepare an accurate autopsy for what this election did or did not mean when 1/2 of the registered voters didn’t even vote. Half!

My opinion is that those who voted for Trump bought into a false narrative of where the country was economically, etc. Ask those in the automotive, housing, banking or construction industry whether 2008 or 2016 was a better year.

Like all previous Presidents, the country will survive and move on. The fact that more people voted for Clinton than Trump reaffirms the fact that not everyone is insane.

Here’s to the next 4 years being the best in the country’s history. Cheers!

    • I am confused says:

I thought Lefsetz’s (is there an apostrophe “s” after a z, or just an apostrophe?) word choice was spot on. He used the word “service”. I will grant you that people in automotive, housing and contruction would say 2016 is better than 2008. However, if you ask one of the 30 million service sector workers (a very broad category, I know) most will tell you there is no difference between 2008 and 2016.

    • I am confused says:

And I should clarify, the broader “service sector” employs over 100 million people. My 30 million refers to the more targeted “Retail Trade” and “Leisure and Hospitality”. Cashiers, stockers, managers, etc….

( “Employment Situation: Table B-1. Employees on nonfarm payrolls by industry sector and selected industry detail,” U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Economic News Release, April 2011. http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.t17.htm)

    • Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

“The fact that more people voted for Clinton than Trump reaffirms the fact that not everyone is insane.” – No, it just proves that the rest are just simpleton sheep that will vote for a career political criminal because Hollywood and the left leaning (to the point of falling over) mainstream media tells them to. Hillary was/is a giant piece of (expletive deleted).

      • Jim a.k.a. BWH says:

Guy, there is no doubt that both candidates were horrible choices. Roughly 24% of all registered voters thought that a reality TV personality with zero experience was a better choice than HRC. Half the registered voters in the country were so disconnected to the whole process they didn’t even vote. Those are the sheep. So ambivalent to who leads the country that they let 24% of registered voters pick for them. Worse yet, about 9% or 10% of registered voters are the ones that nominated these two clowns in the first place. As stated many times, we get the exact government we deserve.

        • Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

I cannot entirely disagree. Hey, I voted for Johnson. I refuse to simply choose from the candidates that they mainstream media tells me I have to.

  2. I am confused says:

This site is back to moderating comments? What a joke this place has become. Ever since the sophomoric article about Harley, then the subsequent site issues, I’ve tried to come back to this site and give it a second, third, fourth chance. But its just turned to a rubbish junk site. Its too bad because it was good, and has great potential.

  3. Super Dave says:

Without a doubt, the best story I have ever seen grace this site. Very well done Bob.

  4. The Word says:

The working class/rural, white voter came out in droves for Trump. Something they didn’t do for Romney or McCain.

They didn’t think Romney or McCain had their backs. Yet, they think Trump does. Four years will tell if they’re right.

But he’s a tip to Democrats to do for the next four years. Talk to working class/rural whites. Hear their problems. In stead of trying to replace them with Illegal Aliens and Syrian Refugees.

    • Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

Yep. As Lefsetz said, quit speaking down to them like you’re their parent and they need to do what they tell you because you know what’s best for them. Quit pandering to the minorities, and remember the majority. But they won’t. The idiot liberal left will double down on their stupidity….they always do.

      • The Word says:

Not only that. But if someone from another planet spent a month watching American TV especially the news they would think were live in South Africa under Apartheid or Rhodesia.

They would think 95 percent of the country is black, muslim and gay with the five percent of white christians holding the 95 percent under their thumbs.

13 percent of the country is black. 1 to 2 percent of the population is muslim. 1 percent of the population is gay. So why do we walk of eggshells for these people?

  5. chuck says:

    Excellent article in my opinion.

Trump’s nascent affiliation with Goldman Sachs (With the exception of Bannon, whose slash and burn politics are a much needed salve for axe wounds recently inflicted on the electorate.) is troubling and I hope, not a portent of things to come.

“Although Goldman Sachs shunned Donald Trump as a businessman and candidate, the president-elect is filling key positions of his administration with former employees from the firm. His chief strategist, Steve Bannon, spent many years at the investment bank; Steve Mnuchin, Trump’s pick for treasury secretary, spent 17 years at the bank; and Gary Cohn, a top Goldman executive, has been reported to be in the running for a top job.”

    -WNYC NEWS

The wallahs at Goldman Sachs categorically KNEW that they were marketing worthless Mortgage Backed Securities for almost 2 years prior to the ca. 2008 financial collapse. Lloyd Blankfein should be in prison with many other oleaginous, used car hedge fund guys from Wall Street. That NO ONE went to jail for this contemptible and illegal scheme is a disgrace. That Trump is feting these guys at Trump Tower is ominous.

Like the fields of Carthage, salt should be sown into the corrupt soil where sits the Progressive, Corrupt Cathedral of the 4th Estate. The smoking ruins and wreck of a once renowned and respected discipline, now, infested by the agenda driven rat-clergy whose claims to objectivity, ironically are, at this moment, concomitant with specious claims that the “Fake News” is responsible for their and their candidates fall.

This fall of woman, was orchestrated by the 4th Estate. Finding no vehicle for his “truth”, be it what it is or was, Trump took to TWITTER and invoked, de facto, his first law. “Say’s Law”. The more he TWEETED, the more, in gleeful anticipation of his undoing, did the traditional 4th Estate spin, twist and “report” while adding context, implication and smug patronization. The Media’s coverage of Trump, was tendentious at best and a Fascist-Brown-Shirt call to action at worst.

The Huffington Post, the New York Times, Slate, these are just a few, of the major news outlets, that called for violence against Trump and his supporters. It worked, in that, indeed, Trump supporters were assaulted, spit on, egged, intimidated and beaten severely while attempting to assemble and invoke their rights to Free Speech under the Constitution. This, while unelected and elected officials stood by and watched the chaos and mayhem and the 4th Estate either obfuscated or falt out refused to report the violence.

Obama’s recent attempt to once again, Al Gore The Fox Ox is icing on the baked in cake. I like that newest, election cycle colloquialism, “Baked In The Cake”.

Here is what is “baked in the cake”. The knowledge of all Americans, even those on the left, that Objectivity from the Liberal Media and the apparatchik talking heads that make up the lion’s share of our esteemed 4th estate, are corrupt, agenda driven agents of the Cathedral where the American public just nailed their ballots on the door.

  6. CG says:

We were told his winning the presidency would cause a stock market semi crash. Funny its at an all-time high 19,201. The man works 20 hours a day. He has backed off his mean spirited attacks on everyone including the Clintons. I think he means well and wants the best for the country. His first 30 days are a preliminary…so far so good. Oh he isn’t in office yet.

    • Jim a.k.a. BWH says:

I’ll say it again, CG. Trump gets the credit/blame once HIS watch starts ticking. So far, so good? Really?

There will never be a wall.
There will never be mass deportations.
There will never be a special prosecutor appointed.
There will never be term limits.
The “swamp” is being filled again.
ISIL will be around at the END of Trump’s term despite saying he’ll defeat them “quickly”.
The ACA will not be repealed and replaced. There will be changes made to the major flaws in the act, but not repealed.

Bottom line: The name will change on the Oval Office, but the beat goes on in ‘ol D.C. Too many horses feeding at that trough to change anything.

    • Trembley says:

“We were told his winning the presidency would cause a stock market semi crash. Funny its at an all-time high 19,201.”

Oh, that’s right– I forgot– it was bottomed out before the election.

“He has backed off his mean spirited attacks on everyone including the Clintons”

No, not really. Like you, Craig, his bi-polar waffling knows no bounds.

“I think he means well and wants the best for the country.”

This is just straight up delusional.

“His first 30 days are a preliminary…so far so good.”

Depends on who you ask, right? It’s all perception.

-He has already backed off many of the promises that got him elected.
-He has made several terrible appointments that even the staunchest of conservatives are questioning.
-He has spent significant time on social media complaining about a newspaper and a sketch comedy show.
-He has shown little regard for dealing with other nations diplomatically.

I’d say his first 30 days have been terrible, personally. Oh, and he isn’t in office yet.

      • Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

“He has made several terrible appointments that even the staunchest of conservatives are questioning.”

Terrible according to who? You? The mainstream press? The very party that hated him but was forced to swallow him?

“He has already backed off many of the promises that got him elected.”
Standard procedure after an election. His pivot toward the middle just came much later.

I did not vote for Trump, but all the hand wringing and gnashing of teeth by those on the left side of the aisle is pure comedy. They are simply reinforcing the Trump supporters’ view, and the reason they voted for him in the first place.

Dead on the money, Lefty! My company is busy cutting costs and they started with health care. We are only offered one program this year. I’m going from top of the line PPO coverage with every benefit you can think of, for $200 a pay period, to a $6,300 high deductible plan, for $389 a pay period! My guess is they are begging everyone to go outside for coverage, which I will.
I’m about to get a throat FULL of Affordable Care!
    Loved your piece.

    • Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

Yikes. My entire family of 6 is insured for less than that. I would refuse to work for a company with garbage insurance like that.

    • Mona Smiles says:

Guy, thats because this smells like a bald faced lie from Paul. I’m no fan of the ACA, but its horrible based on facts, no need for paul’s exaggeration. At my employer, a single person can get the high deductible plan for $17 per pay period (bi weekly pay), a family gets it for $64 per pay period.

This is exactly what I purchase, and have the difference in savings between this and the higher “Platinum” plan in an tax-advantaged HSA. I’ve been doing this for 3 years, banking the maximum tax advantaged amount allowed and I have a nice little nest egg for medical emergencies.

Unless Paul is willing to take a picture and redact the personal information and post to DropBox then don’t believe his claim, because its just crap.

  10. Laura B. says:

This article is a rant, in my opinion. The political pendulum has shifted to the GOP and it will shift back. There is no movement toward or away from any particular political philosophy. Politics is cyclic. There’s nothing wrong with the Democratic Party simply because HRC lost. There would have been nothing wrong with the GOP had HRC won the election. Can we please stop discussing the election now?

    • Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

“Can we please stop discussing the election now?”

No. Don’t like it? Don’t read it.

    • chuck says:

No. The vitriol visited on Trump supporters by the violent Fascists on the left should in no way be glossed over. The George Soros-Media Matters funded attacks from paid demonstrators, the compliance and intent of the MSM with the Democrat Party in illegal and unethical subterfuge, first against Bernie Sanders, then Trump, the calls for violence and then the actual violence inflicted on those wishing to exercise Freedom Of Speech and The Right To Assemble, the categorical evidence of malfeasance with regard to the pay-for-play Clinton Foundation, the incessant premeditated lies from the head of the Democrat Party, Obama, regarding Health Care, Benghazi etc. etc. and most importantly, the defeat of the press pack dog, lickspittle 4th Estate needs to be dissected, discussed and reviewed again and again and again, so that we, as a nation can wake from this National Stockholm Syndrome of Political Correctness and evaluate facts and reality when makng policy.

This was a close call and we should not underestimate the damage, the destruction that Obama wrought with his “Fundamental Change”.

  11. Deepdishthroat says:

What I wanna know is how many people in here believe in Pizzagate. I’m sure there’s at least one of you in here that does

    • Trembley says:

      “At least one…”(?)

I’d imagine it’s closer to 90% of this blog’s readership. KCC’s comment section is almost entirely composed of middle-aged, disenfranchised, alt-right abiding, conspiracy-theorists. But it’s cool, Trump will save them all. [eye roll]

      • Jim a.k.a. BWH says:

Careful, Trembley. Labeling entire groups of people (your 90% would be considered and entire group) can be a dangerous proposition. Ask HRC.

I missed the memo where being middle-aged with right-side-of-the-aisle leaning views was considered a negative.

This middle-aged, progressive welcomes an opposing point of view. I just might learn a thing or two.

        • Trembley says:

          “right-side-of-the-aisle leaning views”

This is putting it very, very mildly. Opposing viewpoints are fine, but when unsubstantiated internet nonsense leads to people entering businesses with firearms to “investigate,” it becomes a real problem.
