The problem with discussing national politics when you’re from Kansas City is nobody thinks you know much beyond what’s already been said by people in Washington D.C. or New York…
However sometimes you need to get a some distance from a problem in order to get a perspective that people more closely involved can’t.
Like that Hillary Clinton’s private server allowed her to trade state secrets. Because the Clinton Foundation actively traded this sensitive information for cash, influence and favors through her “unsecured” server.
Putting that information on the server was like leaving a folder on a table at a restaurant.
And informing “donors” where to find the information was the same as a covert drop. This really isn’t a hard concept to understand.
Thus the Clinton Foundation amassed several hundred million dollars in a short time.
And its only real product is access.
The speeches were a shallow disguise easily exposed.
Bill Clinton gave two speeches during Hillary’s time as Secretary of State that exceeded $500,000 each.
And Hillary says you can’t prove that she altered her actions at The State Department because of the money, but now we can’t see what happened on her server at that time. Her actions may not have taken place in The State Department but the actions did take place on her server.
She says it was for convenience.
It’s a lot of work to set up and maintain a server and a separate email system. And it’s a lot of work to take it down and have it destroyed. It is a lot of work knowing that oversight committees will hound you. All of which is a lot more work than merely following the rules and the law.
Convenience is not a plausible explanation.
There are many layers of criminality surrounding the Clinton’s server. And it’s interesting to rehash the news from a Kansas City perspective. However this probability has not been pointed out by any of the highly regarded experts in the field.

Professionally speaking, I could do either task in under an hour; the work is technically trivial.
What if you knew you were going to be grilled forever for doing it?
Would that be less work?
What if you knew the information did not belong to you and the owner would ask for it?
Would that be less work?
Same-same; it takes about an hour to set up a locked-down server and then install a secure SMTP instance on it. That includes enabling auto-updates for firmware, software and AV/white lists.
I’ve done this for the Feds for (seemingly) forever, knowing full well the information belongs to others (differing agencies/departments/the American people) and that a full audit of both server and SMTP mail can/will be requested at any moment; these considerations do not make the work more onerous.
The Clintons knew that that destroying the server was a crime. To them it was going to be a smaller punishment than the crimes they committed on it…but convienient?…no

But I’ll play along; destroying the server, per se, was not illegal – it’s done on a daily basis. What was problematic was Clinton’s deleting “personal” emails before she turned over 31,000 work-related missives before the server was wiped.
At the minimum the standard of “not even a hint of impropriety behavior” was violated; at the (provable) worst Clinton was guilty of violating State Department IT policies (as well as being guilty of felony stupid – what she and her people knew about IT was obviously far less than your average script kiddie. Of course, what neither of us can know, much less refute, is whether the server was set up as a deliberate “honey pot” – it happens far more often than you might think, I can personally guarantee you.)
However that’s strictly an internal administrative issue. And frankly, like every place I or you have ever worked, the boss gets –and will always get– more leeway in these things than everyone else. Sad but true.
The IG’s report does not accuse Clinton of trading secrets, or of harboring emails that had at the time been classified – that’s all after the fact.
When, and if, Clinton is charged with a crime vis a vis that email server, well, then then your thoughts may have some relevance.
The fact they they have found “work” emails from her server from other sources proves she did not turn over all the emails (government property)…and that is illegal.
If mishandling government information is not illegal, then maybe Obama owes Gen. Patraeus an a pardon.
