Long time no radio ratings…
However with the winter of our discontent in the rearview mirror, what better time to sort out the winners and losers among area stations.
And guess what? There’s a new king of the beasts – The Point 99.7 FM.
For two months running the Hot AC station has ruled a somewhat weakened radio ratings roost in listeners 12 and older. Courtesy of perennial powerhouse, classic rocker KCFX FM that ceded the No. 1 ratings spot this past February.
Another notable change is that country radio appears to be on the wane.
KFKF-FM holds the high ground via the No. 8 slot, followed by Q104 FM in 10th and Entercom’s WDAF-FM bumping along in 16th place.
Sports talk station WHB as managed to reclaim the top sports ratings honors over 610 Sports during the Kansas City Royals off-season….but just barely.
Neither sports station is setting the world on fire, with WHB in 17th place, a couple tenths of a ratings point ahead of 610 (which actually has a significantly larger cume).
Count on 610 to power its way back in the standings now that the Royals are back.
However things may be poised to calm down this season where the Royals are concerned.
Just last night the evening sports personality on 610 – the radio home of the Royals – did a segment suggesting that this year’s Royals seem to be mailing it in. That the exuberance and excitement of the past two seasons is missing. The implication being that Royals players are playing for paychecks now, rather than the love of the game and Kansas City.
Which actually makes sense.
There’s almost no way a city as large and diverse as KC could sustain the kind of over-the-top baseball frenzy of the last two seasons – not indefinitely. Added to which, the youthful naiveté of those lovable last place finishers was bound to give way to the championship rings and fat paychecks.
Meanwhile back in the world of news-talk radio, attempts to revive legendary station KCMO AM appear to be unsuccessful. It’s inching out urban gospel on the AM dial and perennial bottom dweller KCPT TV‘s adult alternative station The Bridge, but not much more.
Now a quick flashback…
Anybody out there remember iconic, rock radio station KY102?
Well, KY’s old call letters – KYYS – are alive and well and holed up in last place at 1250 on the AM dial!
AKA, “La X, La Super Estacion, Con 25,000 Watts de Potencia”
What’s next – some fractured English to Spanish translations – with the Maximo, Hussy & Donkey Rapist show (look it up, seriously).
Stand by for the full listings.
I wouldn’t put too much stock into what Danny Parkin’s says. Afterall, 15-20 some games into the 2015 season, he said he didn’t think the players were talented enough to sustain their successful start.
I disagree with the notion that the Royals excitement over the past couple years is unsustainable. It’s easy to forget with the September/October excitement, but the Royals overall attendance last year wasn’t that amazing, considering they won the World Series.
They finished 10th overall in MLB in average attendance, which is good, but they were less than 10% higher than similar markets Denver, Detroit, Milwaukee, and Pittsburgh and way below St. Louis.
The crazy-high TV ratings are unsustainable for sure. But there’s no reason they can’t still be top 10 in baseball there either, especially since ratings are not based on market size.
I think the winning of the past two years has re-awakened the city to baseball and should result in new generations of fans loving the sport and the team, even if they don’t make it to another World Series for a long time. Milwaukee has seen a similar thing happen, even though they never even made it to the World Series. They had a run of very competitive years, right after building a new stadium, and that support has remained strong, even this year when there’s no pretense about not rebuilding. KC can do that too.
KYLE WINS THE PRIZE…..FINALLY A DECENT RESPONSE!!!!!!!!
1. the royals have turned this city upside down. Where do you go
where you don’t see dozens of people wearing royals merchandise??????
Where do you go where the subject eventually turns to sports…and
our residents are proud of our city…all because some kids won
the world series.
Is it sustainable…go ask the people of st. Louis. I did…and they said
it was incredible that their team has been so good for so longthey
don’t take it for granted and they are amazed at what it has done
for their city.
LETS GET SERIOUS!!!!!!
For years, our town has been flyoever…when we said we were from
KC it was ho hum. Then people who never had beento more than
a single game a year….never watched the royals…never cared….
have all become super fans. Can we sustain this….yes!
Follow moore’s plan…..keep feeding star players to the bigs thru
the minors and some trades. Keep the best mlb trainers and not have
key injuries (which affect a team immensely). Keep your branding
relevant and keep the players in the spotlight in the city.
But with naysayers and negativity of people like hearneand glaze
and the rest of the so called experts….including those who did not
pick the royals last year (like glaza!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and those
who say the tv numbers can’t keep up (yes they can when the networks
are dying) but with 300,000 watching the royals and not turning
on DANCING WITH THE STARS (I WONDER WHEN GLAZA GETS
HIS SHOT ON THAT SHOW?????? HAHAHAHA!)
Stop the negativity. I go to 40 plus royals games a year….this years
crowds are over the top….its incredible.
NOW IF THE CHIEFS DRAFT OR GET A GREAT RECEIVER TO
GO WITH JMAC….WATCH OUT NFL…..kc will have 2 great teamz
in pro sports!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How cool is it to go see the royals play this season….it’s the biggest
thing this city has seen in many many years.
610 is doing great….WHB is doing great…..and remember hearne
….it’s all about the money.
Of course the Royals will always have plenty of true believer fans – especially while they are hot.
However, in a city of 2 million people, the kind of extreme fan fervor of the past two years just isn’t sustainable in the kind of numbers we’ve seen last year and the season before.
There will always be 30,000 or 40,000 fans to fill the stadium while the team is winning.
But tens upon hundreds of thousands of locals staying home three or five nights a week to watch three hour baseball games? Get real.
tens of thousands, maybe.
However most people in life are not big MLB fans – they just aren’t. They get swept up by the Chiefs, Jayhawks and Royals when the team comes from last place to first, then wins a World Series. Or KU goes to the Final Four.
But they have other interests in life besides sitting home in front of a television set guzzling beer and wolfing down pizza and chicken wings night after night. There are restaurants, movies, malls, concerts, the Plaza and any other number of entertainment options to pursue that include moving about and doing things in the great outdoors and more than involve going places and doing things – real things – not couch potato-ing.
You Harley – since you’re obviously a little older and easily entertained – obviously have signed your recreational life over to pro and college sports teams….and good for you!
Congrats on watching other people do things and live their lives, rather than you participating beyond sitting stationary and staring at a TV.
I’ll wager in your younger years you actually got out and did some things – golf, tennis, water sports, you-name-it.
Or maybe not.
Maybe you’ve always been a couch potato…and that’s fine.
But just as the Royals players are turning their attention to huge paychecks in far away, glamorous cities, many locals are coming up for air and rediscovering that there’s more to life than sitting around watching a bunch of multi millionaires play games – night after night after night ad nauseam.
Maybe you’ll snap out of your sports trance one of these years (months?) and rediscover some of the activities you left behind two years back.
“There are restaurants, movies, malls, concerts, the Plaza and any other number of entertainment options…”
The media is done, reporting on Plaza disturbances, but last weekend, 2 couples that I know, went to Houlihan’s for dinner (I am only acquainted with them, Mike told me this story yesterday.). They came out after dinner and it was hitting the fan. Cops, sirens and “teens”. Mike says several hundred participants.
Just 411.
By the way, he says the cops carry canisters that look like fire extinguishers, but are actually Pepper Spray. Giant economy size, perhaps available at Costco or something.
By the way, I have issued an “Amber Alert” for Harley’s missing brain cell.
Hey….wheres your dog?
As always chucklets you must have read
Trumps favorite book MEIN KAMPF.
Go back to digging ditches boy…that’s where
you’re at your best.
And again…no facts/stats/analysis to disprove
Harleys comments and noted facts.
Now I’m changing my name for glaza…hearne
and chuckles the loneliest ditch digger in
America to THE THREE STOOGES!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Hearne I have continuously shown you and glaza
to be consistently wrong.
Again….your quote: is that they can’t keep the
excitement up….they can’t keep fans interested…
I guess being from lawrnece you can say that self and
his team can’t keep the excitement up for the 12 championships and getting all those #1 stars.
But you’re wrong hearne….KU is still as popular if
not more today than they were 12 years ago. Now that
you don’t live in joco…I’m sure you say the excitement
for Kansas bball has fallen off.
Truth is Mr. Journalist…is that it hasn’t. Not the
tv viewing…not the amount of merchandise you
see being worn in the area…..but you’re WRONG AGAIN…..they still fill up allen field house every
game…and they’ve done it that way for over a decade.
So your theory about fans losing enthusiasm goes down
the drain just like the rest of your;s and glazas
stories.
And you’re wrong…wrong….wrong again on tv
viewing…KU STILL DOES GREAT NUMBERS ON TV.
EVEN THE CHIEFS ON SUNDAYS DRAW 300-400 K
EVEN DURING DOWN SEASONS…..AND THE ROYALS….PROVIDED THEY KEEP UP THE WINNING ARE KILLING THE NUMBERS ON
CABLE TV FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS!
So I’ve decided to call you and glaza the
BOOBSEY TWINS…..because you put out such
wrong b.s. on a consistent bassis.
As far as the royals turning their attention to big
paychecks of course that’s true. Not everyone
wants to sell cars their entire life.
But Gordon stuck here….perez signed an extension…
they’re getting the new stars ready to replace those
who leave and they’ve got most of the team here thru
2017/2018.
See them beat Detroit? But read where the numbers
from sunday were incredible.
So again…and it’s getting old…your comment
is WRONG…WRONG….WRONG….WRONG.
And the boobsey twins show one important thing….
HARLEY IS ALWAYS RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks
hey hearne….
I’m in excellent shape and you can find me
either at the gym or on my own equipment.
2-3 hour a day workouts 5 times a week.
And I still go to 40 royals games or more
a year…love it.
And Ilove my work….and its nothing like
selling recalled cars in the “huge metropolis”
of topuka!
So if you want to challenge Harley to see who’s
in better shape…want me to prove I’m younger
than you….that’s fine.
GEt into your bank for 10K and lets set it up.
Harley looks good…feels great…and is
on a roll.
Sorry….wrong wrong wrong again.
Maybe come let my girlfriend (who’s in top
shape) show you!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hahahahaha!@
Me thinks the H Man doth protest too much!
Harley, you are a mouse who is afraid to even use his/her/tranny name.
Will your “seconds” show up to meet Hearne and offer proof of your grit?
Life ain’t anything like the Golden Gloves you poseur. If you are attending 40 games every year at Royal’s Stadium, you are selling peanuts (There and here) for tips, because the beer is too heavy and you always get runs in your hose.
hey ditch digger bald headed old man scrawny
chuckles the sad sad lonely old man:
no…we’re at rivals most of the time. If you
can scratch a few bucks together come on out!
Know money is tight and you must have gotten
some dirt in your mouth…..
Crazy thing is you yelled at the loews employees
most of which were probably women.
You’re tough with the women aren’t you
ditch digger.
Quite the man you are. They probably
dispersed after they smelled your terrible
odor after not taking a shower after digging
ditches.
Next time get some baking powder before you
talk with anyone because the stench is so
bad with your b.o. that people can’t
stand to be around you.
Which I can understand you writing on kcc
and tonys blog at 1am on Fridays and Saturdays
or early in themorning because you can’t
put any money together to go and
pay for some soap and towels.
Again….your personal attacks don’t matter…
you’re a vial disgusting individual and I will
be putting out the emails I’ve received about
you and your hate filled diatribes.
Its not just me who thinks you’re a disgrace…
it many readers who think you’re a low
life scumbag.
🙂
What happened to 2.????
Is it just me, or is sports talk radio slowly dying?
again. ..hearne steps out of his arena…which is not radio or any media or the
kc star.
the numbers you use are pure b.s…..since nooone with any brains pays
attention to the numbers hearne so proudly uses to write about in between
selling repoed Volkswagens and recalled cars.
Lets be serious hearne….this entire article is a mess!
You don’t use real life stats….but again….there are 24 year old salespeople
at those stations making more money than you are!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so please…go do your regular shtick. Maybe try standup at Stanfords.
Maybe try working the desk at waterway.
Whatever you do…please stop with these poor stories about radio ratings
and the fact that no intelligent person would base an entire article on such
useless and worthless stats.
Harley, the level of your ignorance can be astounding at times!
Then again, you are a one of a kind.
I guess an entire industry – the “unintelligent” radio industry – must be wasting tens of millions of dollars a year paying for these “useless and worthless stats.”
The great and might OZ – I mean, Harley – has spoken!
no bOOBHEAD….THAT’S NOT WHAT I SAID….NOONE IN
THE INDUSTRY OR IN THE WORLD LOOKS AT THOSE
6 YEARS AND UP NUMBERS FOR ANY REAL INDICATION
OF THE RADIO MARKET FOR BUSINESS PURPOSES.
And we can see how well you’ve done in business.
No one…not the station owners/managers/salespeople…
not the advertisers give a f*ck about the numbers you
use (and try to come off as an expert) because they mean
nothing.
Use 25-49 or 25-54 or 35plus listening numbers and
you can make your case. It’s like talking to a 2 year old
child with this radio crap you write about.
We’ll give you a rattle and tell you that your facts are
irrelevant and make no difference to the real people
in business.
When will your stupidity change? You contine this
charade.
AGAIN…YOU’RE WRONG…WRONG…WRONG.
And if you were any type of journalist you would use
facts/examples to prove Harley wrong. But you have no
facts.
Find me one businessman ( a successful one) who pays
attention to people 6years and older’s radio listening
habits. You can’t and that’s why you’re WRONG AGAIN.
Of course a guy who reports on phony jewel heists
and sees suv’s with large alien antennas knows nothing.
I CHALLENGE YOU….WHO IN THE BUSINESS WORLD
WOULD EVEN WASTE TIME ON THOSE RATING YOU
REPORT ON BESIDES THE BOOBSEY TWIN?
Find me one besides…you…the scarecrow…who’se looking
for a brain to prove Harley wrong…..you can’t ….give it
up and focus on the auto biz.
AND I’M SURE YOU SAW HARLEY IS MOVING RIGHT
ALONG…HILLARY IS WEEKS AWAY FROM TAKING THE
DEM NOMINATION THEN CRUSHING MR. TRUMP IN
A LANDSLIDE.
As always….HARLEY MADE THAT PREDICTION OVER A
YEAR AGO….AND HARLEY IS ALWAYS RIGHT.
EVERYBODY in radio and the media look at those 12-plus numbers. They’re the broadest and most accurate of them all.
Once they start slicing and dicing to break down into the SELLING demos, you lose something.
If you’re trying to sell eyeshadow, of course you’ll want to target a more specific demo. But if you’re selling Pepsi or Royals tickets that’s not necessarily the caee.
Look H Man, you’ve obviously learned a lot by cocking back and reading and watching TV but that Hardly makes you an expert…
You know, with all due respect!
wrong again hearne!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you’re a soft drink or fast food…the
numbers you want are 18-34. Those are the
most important.
If you’re applebees you probably look at
25-54 or 35 plus.
Mcdonalds…probably 18-34 like all fast
foods……
your phony attempt at deceiving your readers
is heresy!
And your wrong again hearne..Harley has
spent time with the largest consumer product
companies in the nation….don’t doubt my
expertise in this area.
I worked with the biggest names in politics…
and polling and don’t doubt my expertise in
this area.
If you need the real facts I suggest you contact
me at law4life1000@yahoo.com and get the
real facts…the real info before you make yourself
look like a fool to those who have been in
business…not selling cars.
sorry hearne…but you’re wrong..wrong…wrong
again…and I get tired of having to correct you
and your coments/stories.
put 10K on this.
go ask any agency or businessman if he cares about 12 or
6 year olds radio listening habits.
Problem is they don’t….period.
And we see how well you’ve done in business….you’re
selling used cars. Nothing wrong with selling cars but
for a guy given a trust fund…it proves that you maybe should
have taken more econ and finance courses instead of chasing
tail around town and writing about personal peoples gossip
and b.s.
Career change…….hardly!
Hey Harley, I’ve got 10K. What is your name and where do I meet you?
we’ll get a non partisan negotiator to hold
both our money in escrow. winner takes
all…
we can predetermine who we will question
about the use of 12 plus numbers thru either
a lottery or a “draft” like situation.
If you need we can add every radio station
manager/gm/salesperson in the city to
get their take on this subject.
Ilove you Mr. Reiche….you’re a sucker and
I can’t wait to take your money!
Lets get it on.
Contact me at law4life1000@yahoo.com.
All monies must be desposited to the
arbitrator prior to any further conversations.
And bring along glaze and hearne with you
and have them come with their 10K too.
I don’t work cheap!!!!!!!!!!!
Look, for 10K and I have the money, we are going to meet in person. I am rich, but not that rich that I will engage in some children’s fantasy by proxy.
If you think you can take my money, then meet me in person.
If not, Chuck is right and you are a mouse.
dude…I have it set up.
what difference does it make who Harley is.
You’re an avid reader of my posts and you
know who chuck is…so
get your 10K….we can work with your lawyer
and get acontract.
We’ll go to the largest ad agencies in this
town and speak with the media demartments
or hearen can use his contacts with the
stations to see if anyone askes for 12 or 6 year
old plus ratings.
Get real Reiche (as in third reich) I can show
you tons of research on this subject.
You’re a fool and an idiot. What more can I
say.
Go find something that proves hearnes b.s.
postit here. Show some brains. Because
if you look at any business man who advertises
they want to focus on the demographics that
apply to their products customers.
As far as reliability of those numbers…yes
billions are spent using those stats but
the successful companies are looking for
specific demographic groups to reach with their
ads.
Get real…and prove me wrong or follow the
impartial way to make this bet happen.
I understand you haven’t got much money…
especially if you hang with chuklets at the
bar.
Contact me at law4life1000@yahoo.com for
complete details and we’ll get the wheels
started to do this.
and thanks for being a follower/disciple/
reader of my posts.
now…go back to your jack daniels!!!!!!!!!
The media habits of children are of great importance to businesses that depend on life long brand awareness, which can be set for life as young as 6. Especially since as they grow they are leaving traditional media in the dust, radio is great for buy here pay here lots, those with money are streaming or most likely listening to satellite radio.
If the numbers were not used, then Nielsen would not research and publish them.
jeezus. Find mea product advertiser who pays attention
to those numbers.
Retirement funds? uh no
Auto dealers? Never (about 30-40% of radio
revenues)
Auto manufacturers? no 25-54 is what they
use…or 25-49……
and as far as radio not having any listeners
with money….maybe you should go to
a country concert…or get in the car of some
women…or maybe you like young girls…or
listen to sports and talk shows and see who’s
calling in….
Hearne….where do you get such idiots like
ditch digging carl.
Please…someone help this dude understand
that billions of dollars are spent on radio
to get them to buy everything from diamonds
to Mercedes….
please carl….I’ve worked with the
most successful/richest/smartest business
people in the nation…including presidents
and your post would make them all laugh!!!!
Hearne….where do you get these numb skulls????????????????????????????????
This is in response to the Harley post below.
Any knowledgeable brand manager for a company that plans on staying in business for more than a decade has to know where the next generation is buying, what media they use, how they use the media. Coca Cola, Pepsi, Target, Walmart, Toys r us, GM, Toyota, all use the 6+ numbers, I do too, I work with a major player and have for over 20 years. Nielsen would not spend the time and money to research 6+ unless someone was interested and willing to pay for those numbers, and they are, majors and minors. Radio is right there with the fish wrap.
Radio is dying like print, Cumulus’ stock price is .39, 39 cents, Entercom is trading at 11.07, and Clear Channel at 4.92, all on the downward slide, not a one with a buy now. Radio has lost it’s top value listener’s, you want to lower the FICO score average at a car dealer add radio to TV, I know I did it, went from a 680 average to a 615 and sold a bunch more low end cars all with radio and with a week’s worth of extremely targeted ads on Facebook for LESS than a hun you can do what radio can’t, deliver those under 35, something radio struggles to do at twice or more the CPP of TV.
Much like Trump, Harley has heard some things that kinda make sense, but in the real world where millions change hands for real advertising/marketing Harley wouldn’t last a minute in a real discussion of where the ad business is heading or how to use the media today.
As to the insults, typical blow hard Trump, no real knowledge, just noise.
I have afriend gathering over 100 proposals from one of the largest buying group in the
nation.
NOt one…no not one…was geared to either
listeners 12 plus….or 6 plus years old.
Karl…you live in the old world..and whoever
the major player is I can tell you they are nowhere near in sales/advertising/media
buying the clients I personally have owned
nor ones me or my associates have dealt with.
You’re wrong again. If you want to be lets
go to the tv buyers at any national network
and go thru their files to see the demographics the real advertisers look for.
Your style of biz is old and past gone.
And Inever said radio was dying. Infact I
see where it’s revenues are down.
That’s why I engage in the internet and
others are moving inthat direction.
You’re not a real player…you’re a phony
with no experience.
Most importantly your ideas are old fashioned.
Like your comment about the auto manufacturers and facebook. Read your books old man. the auto manufactueres recently came out and said facebook was a total waste of
money for their products. See Harley knows
all…get on the train karl…and Harley will lead
you to riches with his advice@
Such a Trumpster, are you orange also?
Who hangs with the 6-12 crowd? Moms.
Who make 86% of the buying decisions? Moms
Any advertiser who ignore Moms is doomed to failure, much like Trump, and your friends……
Remember when you point fingers 4 are pointing at you, and you are full of shit.
“Just last night the evening sports personality on 610 – the radio home of the Royals – did a segment suggesting that this year’s Royals seem to be mailing it in. That the exuberance and excitement of the past two seasons is missing. The implication being that Royals players are playing for paychecks now, rather than the love of the game and Kansas City.”
Absolutely how stunningly stupid this is. I’m not even a Royals fan. In this young season, there have already been several exciting games and The K is sold out. Sounds like the unnamed sports host was doing his best to keep ears dialed into his show.
Hearne’s point is well taken. I think the magic will be there more at seasons end if the Royals are in a battle for the division or home field advantage in play offs like last year. They did clinch the division early last season but everyone wanted the homefield and they got it, It did matter. However to sit and watch every game, every pitch gets tiresome with over 160 games on tv. Its alot.
We all love a winner. The Royals are winners. So lets wait and see.
WRONG AGAIN GLAZA.
I know the royals success has ruined your business. Which is sad because
small businesses like yourself need those big weekend draws this time
of year.
But as Wilson said…other entertainment spots are still doing well.
There were 18,000 packed into sprint to see beiber and springsteen.
The bars were packed as was the p and l prior to the shows.
P and L turned the royals run into a million dollar bonanza the last
2 years.
So as I mentoned to your twin hearne…just look at st. Louis baseball..
look at KU and for 12 years their excitement and tv viewing…
and their numbers….no dropoff in numbers and they still pack
the field house so again you make a wrong statement.
It’s up to moore to keep this going….and while you arechasing
HOT CHOCOLATES thru the street….hundreds of thousands of
kc fans are watching the games…..every night…every day….
and it’s going to continue because this town has the royals
on fire.
I know it hurts yours and others business but you have to adapt to
the changing biz environment as I mentioned in previous posts.
again…Harley is the wizard…no one can prove me wrong with stats/
analysis or even numbers…..
good luck….we need businesses like your to do well….but if you
don’t change with the fast paced world…it won’t.
good luck….
Harley
I always get a kick out of reading the posters to this site that pass their opinions off as fact. Everyone knows what opinions are like and there are plenty of those here to go around, too.
Personally, I couldn’t give a rat’s patootie about what businesses (Plaza, P&L, Westport, et al) might suffer as a result of the Royals success. That’s their problem to figure out, not mine. I know what a boon it has been to my fav Northland watering hole BECAUSE of the Royals success. Additionally, it’s hard to beat a summer night on the deck with the 50″ flatscreen, an ice cold cocktail and the smell of the grill in the background while the boys in blue are on the tube.
So, to each their own. Anyone’s predictions of the waning excitement for the Royals in this town at THIS particular moment may be a tad premature.
But hey……..that’s just my opinion.
nice post jim. I’d rather watch royals than hustle the hot chocolates in
town at some slimy strip joint or sell recalled and repoed cars in topuka.
Lets take a poll.
do you like to watch the royals:
do you like to chase hot chocolates in strip clubs:
vote and hearne will tally upthe numbers and based on his crowd
estimate stories at big event I wouldn’t put too much faith in hearnes
ability to count unless he takes his shoes off if the numbers go past
10! hahahahahahaha
I like to watch the Royals and watch hot chocolate in strip clubs more than reading anything than the weak harley has to say!! CHUCK POWER!!!!
I tuned into 610 last fall. On The Drive the two hosts went into a rant at how great the 1950 MU protesters and the protest are. So when I heard that I turned it back to 810, or 710 or Itunes and never went back.
It was straight from Nick Wright’s playbook. Left Wing political propaganda masqueraded as sports talk.
Kind of a silly take since the protest has hurt enrollment at the school and recruiting of athletes.
yes…the school has taken some hits WORD….and yes it was part of the
general attitude on campuses today.
However….recruiting hasn’t been hurt. They still are getting 3 4 star
athletes this year and with a coaching change like what MU had there
will always be a little change in the recruiting.
However…MU will overcome it. They should do what other schools in
the region do….pump up admissions from neighboring states with
tuition incentives to get numbers up. Many joco students are going
to MU now…so why not expand the program to include Illinois/
Arkansas/iowa/Nebraska even texas and Oklahoma to allow
students with 3.0 grade averages and above to get tuition credits.
I think university of Arkansas does this.
It’s only temporary..and would be great to bring in students from
all over the nation.
I certainly doubt that 610 got into much about the mu protestors
and left wing propaganda. the story is now dead….and they’ve moved
on.
But it hasn’t affected mu’s ability to raise millions of dollars….with their
money in the bank they can take the hit for a year or two andstill
be one of the best funded universities in the nation.
And nate silver puts their national fan base in the top 20 nationally.
Not bad for a university iin the middle of the nation.
No matter what…they outdo ku/kstate/iowa state/Nebraska and all the
other Midwest colleges by a long long shot.
Just sh*t happens sometimes. and it made national news.
Parkins is kicking Kevin Kietzman’s ass.
Men 25-54 March Book ( no baseball)
Parkins 6.3 4th
Keitzman 3.5 11th
Evidently it’s a pretty good playbook. Enjoy the old farts on 810.
So what does any of what you wrote have to do with their dumb take on 1950 protesters?
Think before you post next time.
This thread and the article are about radio and ratings….not protesters. Then you hijacked the discussion. WTF does MU and Arkansas have to do with radio and ratings? Maybe you should think before you post dumbass.
Once again, your wrote a post without thinking. What does Arkansas have to do with anything?
Think before you post next time. Or just stop doing it. Your not very good at it.
hmmmm…is that how you give bl*w j*bs hmmmm.
Please read other’s comments….there was
a reference to Missouri’s protests and problems
last year where the individual talked about
problems with ‘enrollment and recruiting”
of which I presented solid evidence that that
comment was a farce (like many others on
here). I not only talked about the reduced
enrollment and provided a possible way for
Missouri to attract students from bordering
states similar to what other schools like
Arkansas hs done to make up for any shortage
of new students enrolling at mu. As far
as recruiting I pointed out mu still had a
good recruiting year despite the protests and
the fact that they have a new coach (which can
affect recruiting) and a new staff which can
also affect recruiting along with the problems
mu had last year.
And again…as always…those comments made
on kcc were wrong!!!!!!! As always I presented
facts and stats that showed whoever wrote that
comment was as wrong as glaza and hearne.
If you need to check my writings..i invite
you to do a search and prove me wrong.
Forotunately no one has proven me wrong
ever on kcc. So please before you so quickly
discount my valued factsand stats…go do some
reading because I just made another reader/
commentator on kcc proven to be a dumb
mother f*cker!!!!!!!!! Harley is right again.
Or prove me wrong.
Or who wrote that please joing chucklets
the lonliest ditch digger in America!
810 scoops 610. Where is what’s his face?
Yep, how awful that these kids exercised their First Amendment rights.
Why, they hurt the “recruiting of athletes.” Don’t they know what universities are all about these days?
I guess you need a safe space.
“this year’s Royals seem to be mailing it in. That the exuberance and excitement of the past two seasons is missing. The implication being that Royals players are playing for paychecks now, rather than the love of the game and Kansas City. Which actually makes sense.”
– beyond a certainty the royals were frauds in 2015, i.e., to they being legitimacy what obuma is to Presidential same in any sense the word. In a word (or two, foreign faction among Frenchmen ye): “deja vu all over again”. nod the late Yogi Berra.
Return with us now those not so thrilling days of yesteryear – 1967 & 1970, person the Kansas City Chiefs. Coming off one legit appearance Superbowl post 1966 season & one wholly counterfeit post ’69 where they backed in, laid giant eggs each season followed.
From “the best team the AFL ever produced” to 3rd place the former, and conquerors the Vikings January 1970 to 27-10 losers rematch/missing post season entirety (even with merger & expanded post season possibilities their favor, latter case.)
Complacency.
From team-wide “mailing it in” nod HC’s original take royals, to one Chiefs player who, so dynamic in 1966, by his sophomore campaign admitted “I just don’t have that same rah-rah spirit this year”, it goes with the territory teams not named Packers, Yankees, Celtics, Canadians – dynastic aberrations each of them, annual outliers too consistent to be considered flukes, unlike KC’s royals of today and the referenced Chiefs yesterday.
As one writer observed post ’67 re: the Chiefs: “a funny thing happened to them after that” (‘that’ being blowouts over the eventual ’67 AFL Champion Raiders 48-0 & 66-24 over the Bears, as well a 24-13 halftime lead over a powerhouse Rams team same (both latter’s NFL clubs & as such Lombardi’s examples of teams better than the any lowly AFL teams, including the Chiefs. The ‘funny thing’? “The Chiefs stepped back to admire their work”. Translation: ‘they started reading their own press clippings’, etc. Those the days afore obscene amounts of $ totally corrupted sports & any semblance of legitimacy re: teams, stats and Championships, as has been the case since 1969.
Reason why (with apologies to Alvin Lee, et al) 62 years after it began in 1955/1963, KC has never earned an legitimate sports Championship in either baseball or football.
Far as radio (Kerouac’s medium many years ago) is concerned, all intents & purposes it died day ‘personalities’ same as the norm gave way to, “and now, another 30 songs in a row”, or some variation said, years ago.
🙂
I suppose it is fortunate that Kero has turned his jaundiced eye towards sporting events and his concomitant disappointment has been confined in that “arena”. I enjoy the comments and the “research” (A nod to the village idiot.), but holy sh*t, imagine Kero as a restaurant critic or even spouse. Jesus…
“Honey, did you take out the trash?”
“YES I TOOK OUT THE TRASH!!!!!”
“Well, don’t be curt. In 1983, on a Tuesday, I believe it was raining that day and I fault myself for not saying anything…, but, I remember thinking, the trash might not make it to the curb that day. There was rain, the bags we purchased, which, back then were 53% cheaper and .09% stronger and you had had 1/2 a glass on wine on a Monday night, which, was part of your slide towards alcoholism, that, fortunately, you finally got help for, thanks to my perseverance and insistent reminders and you forgot to take it out. The number of possibilities that presented themselves to me that day, back on a Tuesday in 1983 are now again present. Rain, heavy, poorly constructed bags, which, by the way, I have asked you not to purchase, as they stretch and tear along the seams, like those phony Chiefs and Royals teams and yes, it is raining. So, all of the variables are there, for you to miss, again today, as you did on that Tuesday back in 1983, taking the trash out and waiting for me to return home from my job as Yoda’s amanuensis to find the trash, still, next to the counter, ensconced.
*I am going to the bar and getting fu*ked up with Johnny Manziel,”
“Go ahead, but that team is a bigger fraud than the Chiefs.”
*Door slamming*
🙂
It would be brutal.
yes…kerowacjy while the old man is sitting watching reruns of Nazi
videos on tv duringthe day…forgets that the royals are winners
and Obama was a winner 2 times.
Kerowacky is a loser and losers hate winners. The royals and Obama
are winners.
Kerowacky is a freaking loser and he’s been proven to be 0-10 last chiefs
season and so far he’s been proven a loser in both baseball and politics.
Now go baack to sleep and don’t forget to take your Flomax old man!
You said the other day that all sports teams are frauds. That could have been a slip, but it appears that you have cannibilized the “fraud” part of your shtick. Now whenever you say the Chiefs or the Royals are frauds, everybody will say, “of course they are, every sports team is a fraud to Kerouac.” Do you have a new shtick?
“You said the other day that all sports teams are frauds. ”
– can’t get anything past you, huh Frank (except analytical thinking and comprehension…)
“That could have been a slip”
– Kerouac never slips… re-read my previous posts & you’ll note I’ve consistently said all AFL, NFL & MLB teams (to include the faux Champions each) are frauds since 1969… as such, all teams surviving the last game each sport going forward will be, same.
What a mess.
Over expansion, increased regular and post season games and extra chances awarded also-rans with no business being in the post season; so much for merit & integrity of the game, teams, players, stats, wins and all those faux Champions.
Anyone who believes KC beat a legit post season NFL team be as compromised as the ‘no team left behind’ system itself. The ‘accomplishment’ ranks up those exclaim ‘we won our division: we’re (division X) Champs!’
Hoo-rah. Ditto associated feel-good rationale, such as breaking down a 16 game schedule into 4 quarters each, enthusiastically exclaim ‘we won this quarter’, on par with ‘leading after three quarters’ (if only there wasn’t a fourth), into the 7th inning (oh that cursed 8th and 9th), end of the second period (alas awaits period three) or at halftime; “depends on what the meaning of ‘is’ is” nod Pinocchio Clinton, as well others come to mind.)
Today’s frauds legitimate as Bonds, who needed extra chances his own – 836 at bats beyond what Ruth had to be exact – even tie the Babe in career home runs. Yet, be many who refer ‘The San Francisco Cheat’ as ‘the best’. Today, kudos are given also-rans sports, despite extra at bats, games, rule changes; sports today is on par with auto-tune vocalization… you can’t believe what you’re being told is legit/hearing.
Once upon a time MLB, pre-1969, just two teams made it post season: each league NL/AL had one division each, and only the best team/record proven over the course 162 games/one each league, literally earned their way to post season; 2015, no less than 10 teams were permitted enter post season.
Had it been based the old formula best record over 162 games, STL vs KC would have resulted World Series. How silly be this modern day ‘awards for participation’ system? Had the ’55 AL season used a similar format as today, KC’s Athletics would’ve made post season… nod the late Dizzy Dean, “how about that!”
As it happened last season, STL didn’t even make it the NLCS, patently ridiculous considering they’d earned the best record in all of MLB; instead, regular season result was for naught, adage ‘on any given Sunday’ (x 10 teams and Sundays circa today) the compromised norm.
Given enough chances, any team can beat another, even a loser 7 times in 8 tries (see 1969 Chiefs, who January 1970 managed (with a copious helping good fortune Raiders starting QB injury and blown official’s call) outlast the Raiders on their 3rd try that season & 5th attempt since 1968 to beat Oakland. Any wonder that Hank Stram (the master of understatement) was quoted aft, saying “we beat one of the greatest teams in pro football – maybe the greatest.” Yeah maybe, thanks that never before special one-year wildcard format aberration. But we got the ring! We’re the Champions (paper tigers.) That KC could not beat Minnesota’s Vikings rematch, nor Oakland in two more tries again next season 1970, affirming.
No self-respecting Chiefs fan that era (to include Kerouac) has any doubt that as a result backing into post season thence due the expanded format, our team was legitimately NOT the best team in pro football.
In conclusion, as I have stated before, the day is coming when every pro team will make it to post season: nothing to do with merit – mere necessity in order ensure $urvival each & every team and sport. Don’t worry, just be happy… or not.
🙁
You have stated that all AFL, NFL, and MLB teams since 1969 have been, and are frauds. We get your reasoning. Where you have been inconsistent is that you refuse to accept the Royals as “faux champions” and crown the S.F. Giants as defending “faux champions”. WTF? If you are going to be consistent, at least grant the Royals the same status as the Giants in your bizzaro world. Everyone in this galaxy does.
“Where you have been inconsistent is that you refuse to accept the Royals as “faux champions” and crown the S.F. Giants as defending “faux champions. WTF”.
– the World Tennis Federation has nothing to do with it… do stay on topic.
As for “inconsistency”? Be none at all: all teams are faux, some more faux than others – as case the fraud-royals. The best of the worst – and as good an example of ‘fluke’ & as poor an example of legitimacy in almost 30 years, since the 1988 Dodgers (Kerouac’s fave team thence) managed get lucky that year; they had no business being on the same field as the AL’s Oakland Athletics. Dodgers got lucky vs a better Mets team too in the NLCS, just as 2015’s superior NY team did not prevail vs an lesser KC team. Back on point, final analysis: all teams are frauds since 1969.
“Everyone in this galaxy does.”
– in an insane (sports) world, a sane man (Kerouac) must appear insane…
🙂
That, beyond football intercourse, we’ll be neither dining nor spooning together is not so much haymaker as reassuring, Chuck. That Kerouac’s perspective as His narrative stands alone and presents sans net, different than a certain KCC commenter who, net (attached the arm two or more white-clothed men) waits for. This is not to suggest a similarity between any living person/blogger & your foil ‘H’; be purely coincidental… or not.
🙂
🙂
Hey Har Man, vial? Is that how they taught you to spell it in J school?
omg… article on radio ratings descends into chaos as the two resident whack-o-maniacs hijack the comment section.
“Here, take my $10,000!!!”, says challenger.
“No, I’ve already proven I would wipe your a__ with it!”, responds one. “My brilliance, speed, strength, riches — all beyond your comprehension!!!”, he adds.
“Reality is 1969! Back when money was real money and you would need just $1,500.899 to equal $10,000 today!”, lamented another. “The rich were richer then!”
