Hearne: Donald Trump, Sex Slaves, Mad Max, Granny & Border War Crossing

2015_12$largeimg29_Tuesday_2015_013043377Face it, the times they just aren’t a changing, like it or not, it’s a brave new world out there,….

Take the annual Gallup Poll results that showed President Obama as the country’s “most admired man.”

Politics, nut job and terrorist shootings aside, the country overall is doing better – certainly the economy is anyway – and the credit and/or blame tends to be ascribed to the man at the top, which accounts for Obama.

But Pope Francis and Donald Trump in the No. 2 slot?

Then again, who knew (or remembered) that Trump finished in the Top 10 most admireds four other times?

And in keeping with some of the other strange days of 2015, did you catch the pic of the three million year old former World War II “sex slave” women South Korea and Japan finally made restitution to? Seriously, couldn’t they have dug up some older photos from back in the day to garnish the story instead of the current one where the women looked like Egyptian mummies?

And what’s with movie critics picking Mad Max: Fury Road as Film of the Year?

Seriously. I waded through that dog with my 18 year-old daughter Liza last spring and – forgive my lack of good taste in movies – but I think it ranks closer to Worst Movie of the Year. It’s so bad, I’d almost recommend it just so I can get a few second opinions.

granny-gets-itAnd what’s with the recent headline in the Lawrence Journal World,Boy accused of killing grandma

Seriously, grandma?

The choice of words is either way too small town quaint or tabloid-esque for a mainstream daily newspaper rendering of a serious local news story. Hey, why not just go all the way and rock with “granny?”

And what’s with the St. Louis Rams’  continued extortion of Missouri taxpayers for a billion buck stadium along the Mighty Mississippi to try and bribe the team from moving to the Left Coast?

Finally – at least for now – this month’s WTF award goes to the Journal World for its unusual pairing of stories grouped together under the headline, The Top Kansas Stories of 2015.

Starting with the state’s Budget Shortfall, followed by the Kansas City Royals World Series victory and Gay Rights.

Now that’s what I call diversity!

But since when did a Missouri team’s bragging rights cross the border into Kansas?

  1. CG says:

Yes Hearne times are changing. They always do. Often not for the best.

  2. Frank says:

Really Hearne, the problem is that the paper used the word grandma instead of grandmother. You are right, the times are a changing. The fact that a boy killed a family member doesn’t seem to be as egregious as the word that the paper used to describe the said family member. But let me tell you “what’s with the headline”. You see, a grandmother, or grandma as they are affectionately referred to as, is the mother of a kid’s mom or dad. And the boy apparently killed his parent’s mom. I use the word apprently because the headline says accused. That’s what’s with the headline.

  3. Stomper says:

One can always count on Bob Dylan lyrics to explain things otherwise mysterious.

People are crazy and times are strange.
I’m locked in tight, I’m out of range.
I used to care but things have changed.

  4. wondering says:

“…three million year old??” They may look a little aged but I don’t think they look THAT old!!

    • Hot Carl says:

Yeah, how come they didn’t post any pics of when they were smoking hot slave girls?!?!

(yes, that post is dripping with sarcasm)

      • admin says:

        I think there’s a happy medium, Hot Carl….

Running photos of women being described as “sex slaves” when they’re older looking than practically anybody I’ve almost ever seen before, seems a little contrived.

As would have been running pics of them when they were smoking hot…but what are the odds such a photo exists?

        Whoa!

Thanks to the miracle of Google, they do indeed…including full frontal nudity. One anyway.

Mostly they just look like old photos of poor people from the 1940s.

  5. Stomper — I prefer Will Hoge:

….sent your kids off to private, lily white schools.
Kept your hand-me-down money, and your millionaires jewels.
Gave em food stamps and welfare, don’t complain you poor fools.
Cause the times, they are not changing.
It’s the same as it was once before.
You got yourself a little, turned your back on the middle,
And now you just don’t care anymore.

  6. Even after the Granny Clampett character became a pop culture entrenchment, the term “granny” would typically be considered inappropriate in a news story unless it’s being used to refer to a particular genre of adult film known as “granny porn” (the name is established and sort of is what it is, kind of like the “Negro Leagues Museum”). “Grandma” on the other than hand I’ve got no problem with. Why must a person in a news story always be formally called a “father” or “mother” simply because they’ve exhibited the ability to breed? I’ll accept “old man” and “old lady” any day of the week, even if I do find “granny” just a tad too casual.

  7. Furioso says:

I was the biggest Mad Max fan ever and even I agree Fury Road wasn’t a very good movie AT ALL. I even saw it a second time just to make sure.

Thank you for telling it like it is..which is almost against the law in this PC country.

    • the dude says:

Wait a second. You thought a movie was bad so you saw it twice to be sure?
      You sir, are a fool.

    • admin says:

      Poor baby…

You struggled thru that movie TWICE?

You deserve some kind of reward or combat pat, something.

Like maybe free movies for a year or a lunch date a month with your choice of Paul Wilson or Harley.

  8. chuck says:

You folks might be taking “Fury Road” a little too seriously. I thought the movie was hilarious and the critics seemed to find it everything from “Entertaining” to a “Masterpiece”.

    http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/mad_max_fury_road/reviews/

I did not take my daughter, I took my son, we laughed and laughed and laughed. It was so outrageous. Those whack jobs all flipping around on 25 ft. poles painting their teeth white at 80 mph in search of an apocalyptic schadenfreude while listening to a guy playing lead guitar strapped to bungee cords in front of 180″ Altec Lansing speakers, again at 80 mph was a hoot! At one point I thought how cool it would have been for the writers to have constructed a Hard Rock version of “Gary Owen”.

Beauty in the eye of the beholder I guess…

    • the dude says:

      It was pretty hilarious Chuck.
I saw it as a fun, popcorn movie. Nothing more, nothing less.
I was entertained, slightly better than Thunderdome which I also liked.
      Suck on that Thunderdome dislikers!

    • admin says:

      Most definitely, Chuck!

I can’t recall what Jack thought of it, but I thought it would never end.

It was so bad, I can’t even remember whether we left early or not.

I’d ask my daughter but I’m afraid she might tell me we didn’t!

  9. Guy Who Says What Others Think says:

“But since when did a Missouri team’s bragging rights cross the border into Kansas? ”

When it doesn’t have any of the big three major sports in it’s own state, Kansans have to glom onto the Missouri pro sports teams.

  10. CFPCowboy says:

Wow, how the time does fly. The Times are a changing faster than we think. I checked in with a couple of the Bundys out in Oregon, and they almost came to blows trying to figure out who voted for Obama as Man of the year. I think I actually heard one of them decry homo of the year, but that southwest slang illuded me. As far as Trump and the Pope being number 2, according to Trump, he and God are one and the same, so it should come as no surprise there. Today, there are thousands of criminals lining up to turn in their guns, well maybe not. I can picture the defense attorney now, asking the FBI/ATF agent, “now what is the law you are sworn to uphold, and why did you arrest my client?” Another whoops goes down in history. Concerning women of the year, Hillary made the list, at least until they run the credits for the movie, “13 Hours in Beghazi”. Between e-mails, banking, gun policy, and that pesky little oath of office, it stands to be an exciting future, regardless of the election outcome, and whether Hillary takes the oath or Trump walks on water over the Tidal Basin what we get will be what we deserve, but nothing like what we were promised. St Louis has promised to put floats on any stadium they build in the Mississippi, and they have the approval of the Department of the Interior for interfering with barge traffic for the game. Kansas may have a budget problem, but with plans to sell the Wichita State Shocker basketball team to appease KU fans they may just break even. Missouri has some of the same problems, such as MODOT out of money. Of course the federal government isn’t in any better shape, but they have found a way out. They can sell nuclear weapons to Saudi Arabia and Iran, end the budget deficit, and help the American “all bidnus” all in one fel swoop. Great article. Keep it up.

    • lets see…royals/chiefs/mu football (they lost #1 qb)….st. Louis cardinals…
what does Kansas have? hawks baseball team and they are having trouble
paying their bills. Can KU go bankrupt. Bills are being paid at 120
days….sad day in land of hawks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Stomper says:

Thanks Cowboy, I always enjoy reading your comments, especially when you offer your customary potpourri of conservative mental masterbations (same as mine, just from the other side of the aisle). It raises the recurring conundrum I have with your opinions. How does such a smart guy like you look at the same set of facts and come up with such a backward analysis? Hopefully you think the exact same thing about me. 🙂 A few responses to your thoughts.

Knowing that many of your politically formative years took place during your time in Montana, I’m not surprised that you are tight with the Bundy’s and their brethren in that part of the country. If the Bundy’s are surprised that Obama was named as the most admired man by the Gallup poll, maybe they missed the fact that the American electorate twice elected him by wide margins. The Bundy’s, like you and I do as well, belong to a segment of the electorate that is becoming less relevant by the day in political outcomes. Old White Men.

Your comments on gun control seem to echo the misconceptions that many conservatives have and that would be that gun control measures of any extent, whether they be background checks, restrictions on gun purchases by mental health patients, restrictions on felons convicted of crimes involving the use of a weapon, etc. will only result in the total loss of the right to bear arms by all American citizens. No gray area or middle ground. Sigh. No one is looking to take your guns away. Maybe just some common sense laws that give prosecuting attorneys an additional arrow in their quiver to put an offender away for a longer period. A red flag to law enforcment officials that maybe a closer look at an individual might be warranted. I think that most conservatives would concede that a focus on mental health patients might be an acceptable starting point. Don’t you find it curious that even among those that self-identify as Republicans and those identifying as NRA members OVERWHELMINGLY support some sort of common sense gun control like expanded background checks? The NRA currently has Congress locked up tight but not so the voters themselves. The topic of gun control/background checks is red meat right now among the candidates for the GOP nomination and they are all jumping on Obama but they are preaching to a very small sliver of the eventual electorate. It is looking like the issue of gun control/background checks may not be an obvious winning issue for the GOP once we get past the conventions and the field narrows down to two. Can you really say with total conviction that expanded background checks would not save a single life? Not even one?

Benghazi?? Seriously?? A tragedy without a doubt but to try to blame Hillary and say the event should disqualify her for the presidency sounds inane, especially when one considers the events in Beirut from the Spring of 1983 to the Fall of 1984 when four separate attacks resulted in the deaths of almost 300 Americans, including high ranking officials in the CIA. All during the first term of the hero of American conservatism, Ronald Reagan, who then cakewalked to reelection. No double standard there, right? I guess I understand what seems hypocritical to me at first glance because with the state of the current GOP, Ronald Reagan would be a flaming liberal.

If you are so afraid of the prospect of Hillary winning in November, you had better hope like heck that Rubio, or even Bush if he can right his ship, wins the GOP nomination. Even then, it will be an uphill battle. If your nominee ends up being Trump or Cruz, and the 50% of the electorate that self-identify as independents get the opportunity to vote on them, it’s going to be a long 4/8 years that follow from your perspective.

Happy New Year Cowboy. The next 10 months promise to be fun.

      • chuck says:

The President’s Weeping performance notwithstanding (I expected him, at the very end of his treacly performance to exclaim that “Tomorrow is another day!!” and see him head off to Tara.), “Gun Control” has been, is now and will be for the foreseeable future a dog whistle clarion call for Progressives in their effort at “People Control”.

Still more of Obama’s post constitutional fiats, handed down from his office in Rome on the Potomac. The premise that we should all get on board with “Background Checks” because they are “reasonable” and all of the cool kids are doing it, belies the existential fear (Justified) that this President is lying. He is a great liar, as is his would be successor. The reason “Gun/People Control” and Benghazi count, is that the conservative electorate knows that the nose of the camel is in the tent and is coming for your 1st and 2nd Amendment rights in the end.

You actually CAN’T keep your doctor, your health plan and lying about Benghazi to the parents of the dead service members and the American Public in order to preserve a victory in an upcoming election can cause some serious blowback. See Rahm Emmanuel and Richard Nixon.

I doubt the Bundy family is surprised at the popularity of Obama. They know the demographics are changing and the new America hates white boys.

You Kumbaya elitists have short and selective memories. As you sally forth into a brave new world (Think Chicago), remember this-

        http://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2014/11/thank_a_white_male.html

        • krislke says:

“You actually CAN’T keep your doctor, your health plan . . .”

That’s odd, Chuck. Because not only did I keep my doctor and my health plan, but Obamacare also ended the annual limits on coverage so that the prescription medications my wife takes are fully covered for 12 months. We used to hit that limit in April, and that costs us thousands.

Not only that, my daughter is allowed to stay on my insurance through age 26, which will put her through grad school. Plus, she can’t be denied when that runs out for her pre-existing condition.

Now your right-wing handlers have fed you some anecdotal stories of a few people who had completely crappy insurance that didn’t meet Obamacare mandates, so the company simply cancelled those policies.

What they didn’t tell you is that in each and every case, is that in each and every case, the newly uninsured was able to go on the exchange and find better insurance cheaper.

Sometimes the truth gets in the way of what you want to believe.

          • chuck says:

“Now your right-wing handlers have fed you some anecdotal stories of a few people who had completely crappy insurance that didn’t meet Obamacare mandates, so the company simply cancelled those policies.”

Ya see, YOUR COMMENT is an anecdote. So, having been hung by your own petard and proving that there are exceptions to every rule and anomalies within any given premise (It gets warm sometimes in the winter and cold sometimes in the summer.), your agenda is clear. As was the President’s.

His agenda, wrapped up in “Fundamental Change” was to shift wealth from the middle class to people in the electorate who voted him in. Takers, who vote for a living, taking money from Makers who earn money for a living.

The pretense that Obama Care is a success and works for the average American is a light year past preposterous. Glad I am, that your daughter and your family can continue to work the system in your favor. The problem is, that the majority of Americans are unable to do so and the lion’s share of benefits and monies were arrogated from tax payers by the tyrant from Rome on the Potomac.

            Investors Business Daily

ObamaCare enrollment has fallen sharply since March, and that’s before consumers confront huge rate hikes for 2016. These are not the signs of a successful program.

In its latest enrollment report, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services says 9.9 million were still enrolled in ObamaCare exchange plans.

That’s almost 2 million fewer than the administration claimed in the spring, when it bragged that 11.7 million had signed up, and way below the Congressional Budget Office’s earlier forecast of 13 million.

And if this year is anything like last year, that 9.9 million will dwindle further as the year goes on.

This turkey of a program costs more and delivers less than promised when it was passed without a single Republican vote. The Democrats own its failure.”

          • What are you complaining about Chuck?

Sure, the President knew that if Americans knew the truth, they would never, NEVER have passed this bill and he had me lie, lie, lie to the American people about it (And then, on film, laugh my azz off about doing it. We Government Big Time Democrats are Powerful with a Capital P!!), but look what I gave you!!

With ObamaCare, the “central planners” in D.C. have outlawed scarcity and mandated plenty. With ObamaCare, every blubbery couch potato will get his coronary bypass operation; every penniless wino will get his liver transplant; every corporate lawyer will get her birth control pills; every ancient Lothario will get his Viagra. With ObamaCare, everyone will get everything. And for some Americans, it will all be “free.” Plus, the kids will stay on the dole until they are 26, with you taxpayers footing the bill!

          • We are United Health Care, the nation’s largest HMO, we just delivered bad news to shareholders but good news for ObamaCare opponents last month. We announced our earnings would take a big hit since ObamaCare and the associated marketplaces have not delivered the customers and the profits that starry-eyed fabulists had projected years ago.

People are not signing up in droves as Barack Obama and all the Democrats and journalists who peddled ObamaCare promised. Expenses are sky-high because among those people who did sign up for ObamaCare policies have been the sickest and most expensive clients in America. Healthier people, whose premiums are needed to fund the program, are staying away because these policies are a bad deal and are unaffordable, especially because at least some have recognized that the Bait and Swindle (low premiums but massive deductibles) have made Obamacare policies unaffordable.

One provision that had been inserted into ObamaCare when it passed (with zero Republicans in favor) concerned risk corridors. These were bailouts of insurance companies that would fund any losses these insurance companies suffered during the first few years of ObamaCare. It was thought these companies may suffer some losses because their actuaries had scant data to set premiums since they did not know just how many sick versus healthy and young people would buy policies through ObamaCare.

The naysayers who warned over the disaster to come were correct and Obama and the Democrats were wrong — deadly wrong.

Now ObamaCare is cratering and the cratering is going to get deeper in 2016 as premiums continue to skyrocket and more insurance companies refuse to offer policies through ObamaCare exchanges. That promise about being able to keep your doctor and keep your plan was broken for many people years ago, and now millions more will feel the pain as those options are foreclosed to them.

      • Orphan of the Road says:

I’d temper my support of 13 Hours at Bengazi. Look at Mann’s depiction of Pearl Harbor.

The image of Reagan telling the terrorist to bring it on and then refusing to strengthen security led to the US leaving Lebanon with our tail between our legs.

Bundy is Michael Brown. A poor poster boy for a serious problem. The issues need attention on grazing and such. Consider the five-year mandatory sentence received when a rancher burnt off his pasture and 147-acres of government land.

Then look how the BLM ignored the Weather Bureau and locals warning to cancel their burn in SD. Ten thousand acres, 7000 private grazing land, burnt because of heavy winds. Not one person has been reprimanded, fired or arrested for this reckless action. And nary a penny of compensation for the destruction of the ranchers pasture.

In the Klamath River basin opposing sides put aside generations of mistrust and fighting to bring the river back to health. The biggest impediment to them solving a local problem was the government.

I would have thought Jr’s biggest gripe was all those TDI VWs sitting on the lot which can’t be fixed nor sold.

No doubt, with your limitless prescience you will bank some serious cash on the election. Good for you, I am not as informed or as confident in the outcome at this point. I am confident of something else though.

Wilson mops the floor with your azz if you ever show up to “tko” him.

Lets keep it friendly. A couple hundred bucks…, you are going to need some seriously expensive Obama Care medical attention post haste directly after this curb stomping and it will NOT be a pre existing condition.

    • Stomper says:

      Harley, WTF???

I normally don’t see the need to criticize you with regards to politics because I’m pretty much in agreement with the basics of what you write. You seem to be a pretty smart guy that, unfortunately doesn’t focus on typing skills and is way over the top on insulting others but it is increasingly clear to me that your reading comprehension skills are almost non existent.

After rereading what I wrote that caused you to call me a turncoat and say you thought I was smarter than that, about all I can come up with is that by me saying that Rubio gives the GOP the best chance to attract the votes of those that self identify as independents, you think I’m an idiot. I never said that Rubio would win. I agree with you that Hillary wins, but just by a somewhat smaller margin over Rubio as she would trounce either Trump or Cruz.

You really need to try to comprehend what I write before you criticize my political opinions. Just because my writing style does not mirror yours in terms of slash and burn insults, doesn’t mean I’m a political adversary.

  12. Hot Carl says:

    GET OFF HEARNE’S LAWN!!!

  13. Here is all you need to know about Obama Care. The White House approved an exemption in Obamacare coverage for Congress and members of their staff. Members complained that the Affordable Care Act will cost them thousands extra a year in premiums. Wait a minute. It’s their bill. If it’s too expensive, why did they name it the Affordable Care Act?

    • Stomper says:

Heck yeah it’s going to cost them more money. Before the ACA they basically got everything for free. Now they were going to have to pay like the rest of us.

      DUH !!

  14. Stomper says:

If you think Obamacare is too costly, a total failure and want to repeal it completely and go back to where we were before maybe some facts, ( oops, sorry Chuck, I mean anecdotes) might be worth considering.

The U.S. is the only developed nation in the world without universal health care. The U.S. spends approximately 18% of our GDP on healthcare. Our GDP is $18 trillion. The remaining 25 wealthiest nations average right at 10% of their GDP spent on healthcare. So that might lead you to say that we are overspending on our healthcare by over three trillion dollars. That’s some serious money that could help solve a lot of other issues. Ok, so you’d think for that premium we are getting better healthcare than any other country by far. The World Health Organization ranks all nations healthcare by level/distribution/outcomes and the U.S. came in with a ranking of 37th. Whether you call that factual or anecdotal, before the ACA our country was drowning in healthcare costs and the citizens of the most powerful nation on earth by about any standards, have a healthcare system ranked behind 36 other nations. So putting Obamacare aside, we’ve got a serious problem here. Whether or not you think this is a serious problem is likely affected by your answer to the question “Is access to basic healthcare a right or a privilege?” I think it is a right.

If you agree this is a problem and efforts should be taken to address it, is it the job of the private sector to address it? My opinion is that the private sectors job is to maximize value to shareholders and very little else. It’s not the job of the private sector to fix problems the nation may face. If there was ever a problem faced by our nation that screams for government action on at least some level, this is that problem.

The ACA is certainly far from perfect but if the republicans were forced to come up with a plan to address the issue, their plan would look pretty similar in my humble opinion. Go back and look at Nixon’s plan in 1974 that got pushed back when other issues reached his plate and you’d think you were looking at Obamacare.
