Valentine: The Clear & Present Threat of Jack-O-Lanterns

BarakOlanternHere’s a serious warning from the U.S. Department of Energy

Jack-O-Lanterns are contributing to global warming. Sound like a bad Halloween joke? of course it does. And while most of us wonder who sets priorities for this Federal Department, some of the more conspiratorial among us wonder what real issue is being overlooked by floating distractions like this.

That said, here’s the quote: “At landfills, (municipal solid waste) decomposes and eventually turns into methane—a harmful greenhouse gas that plays a part in climate change, with more than 20 times the warming effect of carbon dioxide (CO2),”

Seems like the political left is against everything traditional and fun.

jack-o-lanternPublic schools are not allowed to say, “Merry Christmas.” We’ve become accustomed to that sort of thing. However now it seems like the more Federal departments they control, the more we can expect an increase in the assault on our other traditions.

The head of the Department of Energy (DOE) is a cabinet level bureaucrat, so he can really do some damage to our way of life. His duties include the handling of nuclear waste and spent jack-o-lanterns.

The Secretary controls $27 billion in tax dollars and spends more money on research than any other Federal Department. It was not made clear how much was spent on this jack-o-lantern study.

So now we can anxiously await the new study, “Why we must feel bad about Thanksgiving.”

Dead on the money. Nice article.

I am by no means a tree-hugger, but greenhouse emissions are an issue for the world. CO2 is irrelevant to the greenhouse emissions. Methane is the greatest danger to the environment by way of greenhouse emissions. Does anyone fancy a guess as to the largest methane polluter in the world? Cows. The world’s obsession with beef dwarfs the emissions of cars and power plants. One cannot take the environmentalist movement seriously while they target coal and MPG standards, while tacitly approving of the beef industry. Their obsession with carbon based fuels demonstrates their political motives instead of a dedication to sound science. For this reason alone, those claiming a political motive behind the greenhouse emissions are correct.

Its a big world, it can take care of itself. We don’t do much to hurt or heal. Remember the Hudson River? Once flowing in bodies, syringes and muck? Clean in less than a decade and no one can point a finger at who or why it was turned about.
It’s nature. Things happen. More often than not, for the good.

I agree with the premise of your point, but there are limits. You wouldn’t advocate the indiscriminate release of radioactive material would you?

What the heck are you on about? The Hudson River was cleaned up because of nearly three decades of PCB cleanup funded by the Superfund designation. GE polluted the water and environmental groups such as Clearwater and Riverkeeper pushed to prevent them from exemption.

GE was forced to spend 460 million dredging up the PCBs and Mercury.

If they did not dredge the river it would still be in the sediment and polluted for thousands of years.
