Make no mistake these Kansas City Royals are a fine ball club.
They will surely win 94 games or more. The division race is over and has been since June. The hitting has improved and we have some power now. So why then the 3-8 run at a crucial time of the season?
All year long we worried what the effect of being in first place all season might have on this young team. Manager Ned Yost correctly wanted to check out some different line ups, give the starters rests and so on.
It seemed the right thing to do.
So should we worry about this cold spell, poor pitching and even the defensive melt downs? Maybe a bit more of a concern is that our formerly great relief pitching is starting to fade a bit as well.
Only Wade Davis has held up to last year’s numbers as of today.
And so far Johnny Cueto has been a bust.
He’s 2-6 with a 5.43 ERA – not too great, huh?
He looks like a batting practice pitcher. They are killing him at the plate. And as of now he can’t be a starter in the post season.
That’s a huge blow!
Hey, the trade looked good when we did it a month back. But it’s nobody’s fault that he’s pitching so poorly, but his own.
Ben Sobrist has been great as a hitter and a decent outfielder.
No, he’s not the new second baseman. That goes back to Omar Infante. Ben starts in the outfield with Alex Gordon and Lorenzo Cain.
Kelvin Herrera has an ERA of over 3.00 now and Greg Holland with an ERA of 3.64 are way off from last year.
We have no dominate starter.
Danny Duffey is 7-7 with an ERA of 4.14 and Ace Ventura is 11-8 with an ERA of 4.42. Both are up and down.
Ace has been better as of late. Chris Young is 10-6 with an ERA of 3.16 and Edinson Volquez 13-8 and looks to be in the mix for postseason play.
But as we all know it comes down to who is hot in October.
The Royals sure could be hot by then, but pitching is the main concern right now. Sure it’s nice to just be in the postseason games with a shot at the World Series.
However, no matter what happens over these last couple weeks, it only counts in October. And the Royals are in danger of losing home field to Toronto. They too have cooled off. We just have to wait for October.
Remember even hot teams can go down in a short series. It’s baseball. But hey, at least we’ll win our first division title since 1985. Nice.
In February 2015, the Pecota Projections came out with a prediction of (72) wins for the Royals and finishing in 4th place behind Detroit, Cleveland and Chicago. Here we are on September 16th with the Royals maintaining a 10 game lead in the Central and the best record in the entire American League. They are going to cruise to their first division title in 30 years with record setting attendance at The K.
How in the hell can any of this be a negative? Enjoy the ride, CG! Post season play in all sports is a crap shoot. Ask the 2014 A’s, O’s and Angels about that.
I’ve had 6 months to enjoy watching this Royals squad and have loved every minute of it. Nothing that happens in October can change one single thing about that. If the ONLY thing that matters to you is championships, you’re missing the forest for the trees. JMO.
Because pitching matters in the postseason and they brought on Cueto to give the starting rotation a shot in the arm. That didn’t happen and how you play in September matters going into the postseason. Ask Baltimore how their playoffs went last season.
Royals were 15W-11L last September.
SF Giants were 13W-12L last September.
October mattered more.
Regardless, you’re missing my larger point, Dude. The ENTIRE season has been a blast. I sure hope for post-season success, but it won’t diminish my enjoyment of 2015 one iota.
excellent jim…great stat…
it serves to make glaze look like an even bigger idiot!!!!!
its a new week so we should expect another glaze
turn around…360….because this guy continues to
amaze people that he is even still writing about sports.
yes one day…no the next…yes the next….
and what do we get….pure stupidity about any
sports.
Nothing matters til October fool.
Just like nothing matters with your comics til they
take the stage. The might look and sound good
backstage but til the time comes to perform…they
either sink or swim.
Glaze…as they say in show business…for you
it’s EXIT THE BUILDING PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!
and for those fools who thought we were the same
people …I think this pretty well ends that rumor.
luv ya glaze…and without your back and forth
articles we’d be forced to read southy’s recollections
from 1986 and before. That article he wrote was
absolutely brutal.
Of course hearne kept my true comments out of his
blog because that was one of the worst written
articles ever.
Give it to them hearne….will you please get it
right for the readers…please…and god willing.
Harley, I wondered why you weren’t jumping back in with some of the comments made by Dwight in his Planned Parenthood/abortion piece. Now I see why. If Hearne was blocking your comments I’m guessing because they must have been over the top in attacking Dwight personally. That’s too bad. Maybe try again with a little softer wording.
Well said, Jim
Haters how did I miss anything…SAID GREAT SEASON THEY COULD STILL DO WELL IN POST…NEVER SEEN OR READ SUCH hate for no reason…the Royals have sucked lately they even say so, it could matter numbers show bad Sept. hurts the post…anything can happen. SO CALM DOWN ESPECIALLY YOU HARLEY…
Haters calm down everything you said I said the Royals have sucked this month..they know it and it has been a fun season..I think I covered that so lord shut up.
Huh??? You’re starting to make as much sense as Harley.
I make a rational argument and a case for celebrating the entirety of the season and that makes me a “hater”? Was there some unprovoked personal attack in my comments? I’ll relegate future comments/observations to Lefty’s, HC’s and PW’s articles. I prefer a thicker skinned blogger. Thanks.
Good god, CG.
Glaze’s definition of a hater = anyone that calls him out on his idiotic BS.
Or has a full head of hair.
Bingo.
He’s had some real sand in his vag lately.
That being said, Duffy got blasted again last night. Sheezus.
Royals in trouble. Duffy can not start in post and neither can Johnny C.
