Arthur Dodge at the Replay in Lawrence
Lawrence may not be known for the alt-country and americana bands as it once was, but that doesn’t stop Mr. Dodge and his box of nails voice from throwing things back to the early aughts, when he and his Horsefeathers seemed to be everywhere, touring, headlining shows, and generally flaunting his flannel all over the place. This one’s an early patio show, starts at 7, and its just Dodge and his wife, Meg, who happens to own the new-ish throwback diner in downtown Lawrence, Ladybird Diner. The second act on this early bill is Heidi Gluck, a soul-tinged singer who has a new album to showcase.

These veteran Texas alt-country pioneers are doing Wakarusa Fest in Arkansas on Friday, then cruising up to KC for this Saturday night gig. Lead singer Rhett Miller, the always energetic and seemingly ageless frontman, will almost surely sweat through his jeans. And the rest of the band are pro’s pros, tight and sturdy from decades of touring. Rhett recently released a solo album called The Traveler. Here’s what Glide Magazine‘s Maeri Ferguson had to say about the new record:
“Songwriting-wise, it’s everything you expect from Rhett Miller – bright songs and instrumentals, sweet lyrics with the occasional cheeky verse. “Lucky Star” is one of the best, even if it is a bit sappy. An ode to a long-term relationship that keeps him just crazy and just grounded enough, much like the record itself. “Fair Enough” is similarly beautiful, with a driving, quiet melody.”
