Jack Goes Confidential:  ‘Mad Max’: Off To High-Octane Man Cave

images-2MAD MAX: FURY ROAD is a two hour visual attack on your senses unlike any you have probably experienced in some time…

It’s a ferocious, almost surreal action extravaganza that grabs you from the start and never lets go. When it comes to action scenes FURIOUS 7 has nothing on this fourth installment in the MAD MAX franchise.

Think monster truck jam BEYOND the thunderdome!

Absolutely amazing production values make you ask yourself over and over: HOW DID THEY DO THAT?

One thing’s for sure. Some of the brutal action velocity sequences couldn’t have been pulled off until very recently now that the technical side of movie making has finally caught up with filmmaker’s visions.

What we’ve got here is the ultimate man cave movie.

First timers to the franchise—or those who may be a bit foggy with Mad Max basics—will be happy to know that this is NOT a continuation of the MM saga. Instead it’s a complete reboot of the series which has been in limbo for some 30 years.

And what of the storyline?

Pretty simple actually. The setting is a post-apocalyptic wasteland turned desert where former highway guardian (of sorts) Max Rockatansky meets commander Furiosa who’s on a cross-desert journey with five former hottie captives of the tyrant Immortan Joe and his killer goons.

mad-max-fury-roadTom Hardy is Max while Charlize Theron transforms into a tough-as-nails and almost unsexy Furiosa.

What we’ve got here is a vehicular chase of immense proportions which director George Miller describes as, “a very simple alleory—almost a western on wheels.”

Maybe that oversimplifies the plot and scope of the film but that’s what I got out of it too.

But make no mistake, this IS all about George Miller letting lose and unleashing an incredible special effects action ride that should let you easily forget of what once was a Mel Gibson vehicle.

And it’s amazing what the reportedly $150 million budget has done (at least visually) for the return of the franchise.

It’s loud. It’s malecentric. It’s brutal Max on steroids.

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD blasting into theaters this weekend and scoring a B+ in the process.

This is most definitely NOT a reboot. Even George Miller has said it’s a continuation of the franchise.

“I am gravely disappointed” that the Great Humongous is not in this one. But it looks like a lot of fun.
