Let’s take a closer look at April’s radio ratings, shall we?
For starters, two things stand out; the drop in ratings by a full share point for more for Entercom’s The Point and Steel City Media‘s Mix 93.3 FM.
Coupled with a gain of more than one share point for the heretofore sleepy adult contemporary station KCKC 102.1 FM, it appears that the radio station formerly known as Alice is finally starting to get some traction.
One radio source points to the fact that KCKC ran a television campaign but “I don’t think it’s rise is just because of a TV campaign,” says a local radio insider. “For one, TV campaigns aren’t really as effective as they were years ago because there are just too many statins – it’s too fragmented.
“The biggest thing with KCKC is they really do sound better. They’re still kind of a boring radio station but their music mix has improved quite a bit. I mean, KCKC beat The Rock – there’s a statement right there. And The Rock has continued to slide- from a 5.1 to a 4.6 to a 4.3 share.”
