Jack Goes Confidential: ‘Avengers’ Dropping the Hammer on Ultron

avengers-marvelNo synopsis, plot or spoilers here!

Instead here’s my overview of what will likely be this summer’s top performing movie:

While AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON is the follow-up to the third biggest grossing movie of all time (the others being AVATAR and TITANIC) it actually picks up where 2014’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: WINTER SOLDIER left off.

To say fan expectations are through the roof would be a gross understatement. But one doesn’t have to be a 30 year old nerd still living in his mom’s basement to enjoy this living comic book-in-overdrive outing.

And I say that confidently, having observed a screening audience which consisted of a healthy male mix of just about all ages within the 10 to 54 year old demographic with plenty of females as well.

Right from the start this franchise blockbuster sets the tone.

One of the many super heroes uses a mild swear word to which Robert Downey, Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man) cautiously responds:

“For gosh sake guys, watch your language.”

That wink-wink, no potty mouth in the PG-13 rated franchise gag plays well throughout the film.

Unknown-1Is it over produced?

Probably. But aren’t the fan boys expecting just that? And what about the chemistry between the varied spandex-clad characters?

It’s there in big doses!

Besides Robert Downey, Jr. we’re again treated to Chris Hemsworth as Thor. Mark Ruffalo is Bruce Banner/The Hulk with more-than-feelings for Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow character. Chris Evans repeats as Steve Rogers/Captain America while Jeremy Renner is Clint Barton/Hawkeye.

Also on board for the adventure are Don Cheadle, Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, Idris Elba, Andy SerkisStellen Skarsgard and James Spader as the artificial intelligence known as Ultra, is out to eradicate all humans on earth with the fate of our planet hanging in the balance.

Will our spandex clad team of super heroes be able to stop Ultra from enacting his evil deeds?

What do YOU think?

Suffice it to say, AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR is already on Disney’s release schedule as a two-parter for 2018 and 2019.

With mighty Marvel action here staged around the globe (Asia, America, Africa and Europe), coupled with snappy banter throughout the 141 minute long mega-production, it wouldn’t surprise me to see an opening weekend at the domestic box office of $215+ million in ticket sales.

Add a haunting musical score courtesy of Brian Tyler and Danny Elfman and you’ve got a great big super-sized box of cinematic popcorn with plenty of butter to kick off the 2015 summer movie season in unstoppable style.

Let the party begin in 2D, 3D and in IMAX 3D.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON scores a B and opens Thursday evening in preview engagements, then everywhere on Friday.

Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth make those characters. I wasn’t at all interested in the Marvel stuff, but got hooked on Ironman. Good story, good characters. Decided to try the other movies and was actually pleasantly surprised at how much I liked the lead characters, knowing of course the stories were going to over-the-top and all.

I won’t rush out to see this one tho’… just patiently wait until ppv.

    Hey miket,
This one’s should actually be seen on the BIG screen. It’s really quite a spectacle! And you shouldn’t have any problems getting a good seat—especially after opening weekend. I’ve counted up to 31 performances for opening day at some complexes alone.
As for the 3D, I DON’T think the upcharge is worth it here. Nothing special about the 3D in this flick. It was actually ‘converted’ to the three dimension process AFTER the fact….
