FURIOUS 7 is kicking butt and taking numbers…
Don’t believe it? Look at last night’s pre-opening late show ticket sales.
F7’s Thursday evening domestic box office take was $15.8 million.
How does that compare to FAST AND FURIOUS 6? This latest edition of the franchise?More than double it! (# 6 pre-opened to $6.5 million.)
And which movie beat F7 in recent times? That would be HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY PART 1 which pre-opened to $17million.
Just like 50 SHADES OF GREY, industry researchers are predicting for F7 to be heavily front-loaded. So a big drop off is predicted for the film’s second weekend.
So local theaters are making sure that they’re getting their fair share of the pie while it’s hot by scheduling extremely heavy showtimes in multiple auditoriums. Showings began mid-morning today and many complexes are starting the film every half hour throughout the day and weekend.
The most showtimes I counted for today at just one complex were at AMC’s INDEPENDENCE COMMONS 20 with 32 showings, followed closely by AMC’s TOWN CENTER 20 with 31 performances today.
So if you happen to call a multi-plex this weekend asking when the next showing of F7 begins, they may just answer you with:
“How soon can you be here?“
