Paul Wilson: I’d Like a Venti Americano with an Extra Shot of Race Relations, Please

starbucks-race-together-3Starting this week, there’s a chance my Starbucks cup, normally labeled “Well-Coifed Scribe,” will be passed across the counter with a smile and the notation, “Race Together.”

Starbucks wants in the race and values business?

The same Starbucks that spends millions to fight the anti-GMO movement?

The same Starbucks that’s a major supporter of Planned Parenthood? An organization where 78% of its clinics are in minority communities. Blacks are 12% of the population but represent 35% of the abortions. Planned Parenthood founder, Margaret Sanger, put the “r” in racist when she developed the “Negro Project,” to unknowingly sterilize black women.

Nothing racist there…

Sanger also said, “Colored people are like human weeds and are to be exterminated.”

And now that same Starbucks wants to be my race relations therapist?

The immediate, negative blow back forced Corey duBrowa, Starbuck senior vice president of Global Communications, to suspend his Twitter account, stating, “I felt personally attacked in a cascade of negativity” and “I got overwhelmed by the volume and tenor of the discussion.”

Alonzo

Alonzo

I checked my favorite local race baiter’s Twitter feed. It seems Alonzo Washington has his panties so in a wad over the media attention given to Bishop Caldwell’s real estate scandal that he doesn’t even know Starbucks is in the news.

Nicely played, Alonzo; you’ve totally let down all 500 of your followers.

I went to the Starbucks within walking distance of my home this morning, hoping to receive such a cup. Had it come back so labeled from Hipster Barista, I was prepared to administer a civil rights pop quiz. My intent was to await the blank stare when they had not one answer to one question. But, sadly, my cup came back saying, “Paul.”

I quickly scanned the cafe for a minority to ask, “Hi, I’m Paul, what do you think about Starbucks campaign, and, could we talk about the struggles of your people?”

But funny thing, no minorities were present.

Just the usual morning crowd of Anglo JoCo housewives, having coffee before they buy their first bottle of vodka for the day.

I’m baffled by Starbuck’s real intent.

Their corporate mission statement says;

With our partners, our coffee and our customers at our core, we live these values: Creating a culture of warmth and belonging, where everyone is welcome. Acting with courage, challenging the status quo and finding new ways to grow our company and each other. Being present, connecting with transparency, dignity and respect. Delivering our very best in all we do, holding ourselves accountable for results. We are performance driven, through the lens of humanity.

starbucks-race-relations-3How could they have messed this one up so badly?

There are real issues out there if you want to follow your mission. You could start with stopping the corporate exploitation of the very people you buy your beans from.

Stop serving genetically modified milk.

Stop your anti-GMO labeling campaign in an effort to keep us from knowing what we eat.

Stop funding the Planned Parenthood killing machine that amounts to black genocide.

But don’t point out the “racism” splinter in your customer base until you take the board out of your own corporate eye.

You want to fight racism? Fight the private for-profit prison system that incarcerates blacks at alarming numbers.

There’s never going to be a cure that comes from having your barista’s write something on a cup. Like medical research and big pharma – there’s no money in a cure – only in prolonging the illness.

racism-sucks-graphic-1aAs long as we have our three main go to race baiters, it’s an industry from which there will be no cure.

Teaching personal responsibility in the inner city would be huge, but that’s not sexy.

And, there are no dollars or camera face time involved delivering that message.

So, drink from your “race together” cup while wearing your pink ribbon and driving your Prius with your “COEXIST” bumper sticker.

All the good intentions and slogans in the world won’t address the root cause of this problem.

It makes me want to go back today and order a “blonde” with extra, extra cream, but that would be racist, wouldn’t it?

with those novella length frenetic posts how do you find time to index and label your booger collection?

      • paulwilsonkck says:

You gotta love some Mark Smith! Mark, he’s a lost cause and “satire” is lost on him. The moron actually thinks I was physically scanning the Buck, looking for a person of color to start a convo with. He’s a combination of two things. One, incredibly simple mind, and two, he doesn’t read. He simply scans for basic topic or content so he can get straight to the most important part, his insults and comments. In his world, the story only exists in order to make room for his comment. His comment IS the content in his world.
I have three attorney friends who log everything he does. Their observation? This guy is a do nothing bottom feeding troll. No business person in any line of work has the time to write 10,000 words of disjointed, mentally unbalanced comments on a 650 word story!
I just hope he has a April calendar, the boy is going to get, as they say, a come uppins.
He’s heard all he needs from me, in the back of his twisted little mind he knows where this is headed, I’m just going to let him marinate in it from here on out.

        • balbonis moleskine says:

Paul, you have been threatening this guy for 2 years already. Put up or shut up. You two have pretty much ruined this site by crapping up the comments section back and forth every damn time.

I don’t know why you think that he has to be stalked because he doesn’t agree with you. But to most, he comes off crazy and you come off as an egotistical bully.

    • paulwilsonkck says:

Remember, Harley, you have NO newsletter. NoBODY knows that better than I. Produce it, or it’s just another lie. And no one is going to bring $10Large to the table to coax you to tell the truth! What a fool.
Oh, produce a couple of those emails people send you about me. By the same way I know you have no newsletter, I know you have no emails.
I’m so far under your skin you scan this stupid site every 30 min looking for what I’ve said! Happy Friday, little short man. Go make more poop roll ups.

  3. admin says:

    Now, dude…

    • the dude says:

Sorry hearne but if some tone deaf corporate empire that sells crap coffee is going to reduce a serious problem in the world to a moronic hashtag then I am going to respond with something equally moronic in kind.

      • Libertarian says:

But hazelnut and dogturd is one of my favorite flavors!

Just kidding….walk into starbux and ask for coffee flavored coffee.

Then prepare yourself for tombstone eyes.

  4. hahhararley says:

to add to cowboys ride along the wrong trail:

Arpaio admitted he violated federal court orders that stem from a racial profiling case filed last year. Lawyers for the sheriff want to call off upcoming hearings to examine the violations, but activists strongly disagree.

Sheriff Joe in phoenix will be hopefully going to jail. Sorry cowboy…even
    renegades have bad days!

  5. mark smith says:

Im not a big Starbucker, I stop by a few times a year for something other than my usual black coffee. I always instantly regret it. I dont recall ever seeing a black person behind the counter. So I guess one would have to have their #RaceTogether discussion with the stereotypical 35 year old , lumberjack bearded, hoolahoop earlobes nimrod, dripping patchouli infused sweat over the milk steamer. To be honest I’d rather discuss race relations with Calypso Louie Farrakhan or David Duke than some ass hatted doofus who misspells Doug as Dug. Starbucks is trying to capitalize on one of the most divisive hot button issues of our lifetime, and for that they should be ridiculed without mercy. All that aside, QT has better coffee hands down and the clerks speed talking leaves no time for heady discussions. “Thanksalotseeyanextime”

    • paulwilsonkck says:

Actually, I no longer frequent the place. My regular hang out is a little independent coffee house owned by a couple friends of mine. So, I pretty much agree with you while heartedly.

      • balbonis moleskine says:

we know you humblebrag weekly. remember when you told everyone about George Brett being a nice guy?

        • paulwilsonkc says:

Sweet Baby Jesus, Balbo. I like you man, but do you have any idea how MUCH of what I do is satire, tongue in cheek, faux self engrandizement? You know how many times I take different sides just to get people to think? Im far less serious in all of this than you must think. Lets have a drink some time, I’ll fill you in. Its almost always humor based, even though George CAN BE and has been a nice guy. Two weeks ago at the Hi Hat, some lady asked if he could contribute ONE signed piece to a worthy, charity auction. They aren’t even friends. She said a virtual care package showed up, items of his as well as other Royals, just to help out….

          • balbonis moleskine says:

            >I like you man, but do you have any idea how MUCH of what I do is satire, tongue in cheek, faux self engrandizement?

Duly noted, and totally fair enough Paul. I always like when you are doing the more lighthearted stuff on here.

For what it’s worth we seem to have similar senses of humor.

(remember though, “dont touch the poop” in the comments section sometimes)

I cant throw too many stones occasionally I can be the poop as well too I guess.

        • paulwilsonkck says:

Balbo, I promise, I’ll stop touching the poop! You’re one of the ones I really like, even when you’re going after me! Thanks for your comments, they are much enjoyed. I don’t expect anyone to always like me. Some, I NEVER expect to like me!

  6. mike t. says:

    good post, paul!

    good comments, mark!

lame, harley. really, not one of your better ones.

    • paulwilsonkck says:

      Thank you, sir!
Can you actually categorize Harley’s posts?!?! I thought the only differentiation between them was it written on a wall with poop or in a Big Chief Tablet with crayon?

  7. false choices II says:

Coming from the left side of the aisle, this is one of the lamest ideas ever. I get the tone, but c’mon, the next thing you know, we’ll be forced to vote. I wouldn’t drink Starbucks if it was between that and a cup of warm spit. Another “touchy feely” multi billion dollar conglomerate who really doesn’t give a crap about what you think.
One of the best places to get coffee is on 39th street at a place called Room 39 (?!) I think that’s what it’s called.
Next outrage from the right in 3…2…1

    • paulwilsonkck says:

fc II, if I’m down town, it’s the Filling Station for me! 39 is great, Broadway is too, but The Filling Station is my personal go to when I need to catch up on email, write, read or just unwind.
      Thanks for your comment.

  8. Stephen Pack says:

The Margaret Sanger quote you have is completely fictitious.

The closest thing she said to that was as follows, which is classist but not racist — it would have applied equally to mostly-white tenements in industrial cities as anywhere else: “We must make this country into a garden of children instead of a disorderly back lot overrun with human weeds. In a home where there are too many children in proportion to the living space, the air and sunlight, the children are usually overcrowded and underfed. They are a constant burden on their mother’s overtaxed strength and the father’s earning capacity. Such homes cannot be gardens in any sense of the word.”

    • Stephen Pack says:

Also, on May 5, 1966, Martin Luther King accepted Planned Parenthood’s inaugural Margaret Sanger Award with an address entitled “Family Planning – A Special and Urgent Concern,” which included several positive lines like, “There is a striking kinship between our movement and Margaret Sanger’s early efforts.”

      • paulwilsonkck says:

Stephen, Dr. MLK’s address was not pro abortion. And while he accepted the award, he also had his mistress hidden in his room when he was shot. I guess I miss the point.

        • Stephen Pack says:

The point is that some claim this straw man that Planned Parenthood is racist — yet MLK had no similar concern.

97% of services provided by Planned Parenthood are non-abortive family planning and women’s health. They go where people can benefit the most from their low-cost services. I can’t speak to that other 3%, but Margaret Sanger and MLK were both VERY much in favor of such family planning.

  9. chuck says:

    Nice article Paul.

I think we should have a conversation about race as soon as possible. Communicating on any level at all with those who are “Offended as a career choice” is becoming more and more difficult. The ability to verbally communicate in a “Multicultural” Progressively dominated society is diminished literally every day. Below, is a video of the Townsend University Debate Team, as they vanquish the University of Oklahoma on the subject of “The War Powers Resolution”.

    http://patdollard.com/2014/05/blacks-win-us-debate-championship-by-yelling-nigger-over-and-over-ranting-gibberish/

You will not believe it. I can’t encourage you enough to watch this video, it is short and speaks to the Politically Correct Cancer that is crippling this country.

It’s not just the video that is incomprehensible, it is the incomprehensibility of the entire story, in and of itself.

It is without a doubt, a conversation about “Race”.

You really must look at it…, to understand, or, not understand it.

  10. chuck says:

My comment is awaiting moderation, in the meantime Paul, nice article!

  11. Jeffrey Heavin says:

“First bottle of vodka”? Johnson County Housewives can be seen {on Roe } jogging while pushing two infants in a stroller and looking great. This behavior best represents what the Left is calling “White Privilege”, working one’s ass off in order to achieve the absolute best results.Americans talk about race all day every day—most are simply incapable of having a FRANK conversation about race.Too much hypocrisy, not enough balls.

    • paulwilsonkck says:

      Nicely said…

      • Jeffrey Heavin says:

        Thank You.

        • paulwilsonkc says:

My “first bottle of vodka” comment was made tongue in cheek and I’d spoken to the owner of a local liquor store at the S’buck that same morning. He jokingly said, three of the girls in here drop their kids off at school and drive straight to my store for “their first bottle of vodka for the day….” So it was a tip of the humor hat to that.
You could not be more accurate on the “white privilege” or “white guilt” comment. Both arise from our extreme environment of PC speak.
And to your comment on a lack of balls, that was exactly what I was pointing to under the topic “personal responsibility” and no camera time in delivering the proper message. Ive said 100 times, we’ve developed a culture of violence by building a permanent underclass. Give someone something for nothing long enough and you strip away all of their value. That’s why Im willing to shoot you if you LOOK AT ME in a disrespectful manner. I have so little self respect left, anything will trigger the response.
Is there an answer? Sure. Return jobs, education and self worth to the community. Get the man back in the house. Resolve the spiritual and familial breakdown that’s led us to where we are. Stop supporting females being rewarded for having more kids when more kids = mo money.
Thats half the battle. Will it work? Sure, but its going to take 1-2 generations to turn it around.
But theres no fame, money or TV time is fighting the good fight. Rev Al, Jesse, et al, dont want it fixed. If its fixed, there goes the income stream. And locally, our wing nuts like Alonzo CrimeFighter, just another grifter wanting to make a buck off of his activism. No one that can affect a change has their heart in the right place.
Prediction; a continuing slide down hill.

  12. Harry Balczak says:

Um, I don’t think the intent of Planned Parenthood was to ethnically cleanse African Americans from the US….try spouting some other falsehood you heard on Faux news and someone will probably believe it.

    • paulwilsonkck says:

Harry, I only expressed Margaret’s mission and thoughts, wasn’t mine. Plus, I can’t tell you the last time I watched FOX. Appreciate your comment just the same.

  13. Mr Black says:

Paul, great writing about the truths concerning the conditions in the minority communities. Keep up the good work.

    • paulwilsonkc says:

Thank you, Mr Black. I revised it last night for a local paper who runs my columns, even more to the point since Starbucks cancelled the promotion yesterday because of the backlash. Email me and I’d be glad to send it to you.
