Jack Goes Confidential: Vince Vaughn Disappoints In ‘Unfinished Business’

UnknownYou think it’s easy being a critic?

Think again.

It’s a job that leaves yourself wide open for many a disappointment.

Case in point.

I’ve been a fan of Vince Vaughn’s brand of comedy for quite some time now. Loved him in SWINGERS, WEDDING CRASHERS and OLD SCHOOL.

Heck, I even appreciated him in BREAK-UP and THE INTERNSHIP.

However his latest offering, UNFINISHED BUSINESS, has a major portion of its story line set in Berlin, which just so happens to be my second adopted home town.

So you know I was pumped for it.

You can probably also appreciate my disappointment when the movie turned into 91 minutes of uninspired and often misfired, goofy comedy way below Vaughn’s range.

The story has him as a St. Louis based sales manager telling his boss (Sienna Miller) to take the job and shove it. He then takes a couple of his cohorts off to start his own competing business.

three-stooges-largeAnd now to beat his ex employer in landing a lucrative international contract, the trio heads to Berlin to seal the deal.

That’s where everything pretty well goes down the crapper. Not in clever ways, mind you, but more along the lines of the Three Stooges.

I really struggled to find a chuckle here and there.

Matter of fact, I felt really bad for co-star Tom Wilkinson whose over the hill sexual needs made me wonder why he took the role?

“I’d settle for just ONE Shade Of Grey.”

As for the third Musketeer Dave Franco—well, let’s just say that a little of him went a long way.

I guess if one keeps one’s expectations in low gear you could appreciate the underwhelming goings-on in this movie.

Unfortunately, many others will want to try to regain the time and money spent watching this easily forgettable lowbrow romp.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS barely scores a C-.

“Swingers” was Vaughn’s best movie by far. Think he may need a new agent?

it would be tough for vince to ever equal his part in Wedding Crashers.
Seems like its on tv every night somewhere.
Never saw swingers…but “chuckie Schwartz” needs to find better
    scripts.
was looking forward to this movie….instead we’ll go to Netflix
    and watch his old classics.
Reminds me of paul rudd. Paul gets some awesome roles anddoes
great work than falls down in some really bad movies.
How about a rudd/vauhgn costar movie…that would be cool.

—–p.s.—with VAUGHN being so tall and RUDD so short, they could call it “LITTLE BIG MAN”—then again, maybe not….:)
